  1. I just went down to my local Sports Authority and they have the Triton 300 in stock. I got to play with the display model and it looked good, but couldn't get any signal in the store. The display looked great, however going thru the menu screens was not as intuitive as I would think. I did check the box and it DID include a USB cable and CDROM. I did not pick one up yet, I will wait and see how well it does, but it was tempting.
  2. I could not add maps from the hard drive. Only from the registered unit. Actually I was refering to cut maps stored on your hard drive.
  3. Installation was fairly straight forward. Initially it only comes with a world basemap. As soon as I connected my eX600 usb and powered it on it was recognized and showed up in the GPS list. You can then add maps from your hard drive (from MapSend Topo or MapSend DirectRoute) or you can transfer them from you gpsr unit. I was able to add my MapSend Topo 3D USA and MapSend DirectRoute maps to VP. You have the usual features for adding waypoints, tracks, routes, and Geocaches. I tried adding a few Geocaches from my hard drive but it seems to only import one at a time. I did not see a way to select many at a time to import. Not good. Overall it seems like a nice interface. But it may not be convenient on some features.
  4. No charge. It's one of the free downloads along with MapSend Lite Beta and MapSend Manager.
  5. Could this mean that the Tritons will be shipping soon?
  6. I just visted the Magellan web site and they have now updated the VantagePoint product page. https://www.magellangps.com/products/map.as...amp;PRODID=1903 I just loged in and downloaded the software. I still need to install it yet.
  7. Well the Maestro 4200 series is a brand new product as much as the Triton. So if they are having performance issues with the Maestro I hope that is not a reflection on the Triton series products.
  8. Just wondering how you are clearing the junk folders? If you are deleting the actual Geocaches folder then that could possibly be causing the caches from being displayed.
  9. I am having an issue with MapSend DirectRoute 3.0 and my eX600 background turning from white to dark blue at random times. This only seems to happen with the zoom level below 0.2 mi. There are some streams around but the background turns blue even when there are no streams showing on the screen. As I follow a road route the screen sometimes changes back to a white background and then back to blue. Let me clarify that the blue screen background covers the whole screen where the street roads are showing, so this is not a simple thing of overlapping water. I also have MapSend Topo 3D USA maps which this problem does not occur. I can change my details map between the two and the blue background only happens with DirectRoute maps, so it appears to be an issue only with DirectRoute 3.0. I have a recent eX600 with firmware Ver 5.2.17. Anyone else experience a dark blue background with their eXplorist 500/600?
  10. I stand corrected. Sorry, my ignorance. I have Topo 3D USA 1.0 which does not have direct transfer options to the eXplorist file formats. You need to use MapSend Manager or Conversion Manager to convert the created files to eXplorist format. So I use MapSend Lite v2.00e which has support for the eXplorist models (for track and waypoint management). If you pay extra for Topo 3D USA v1.5 then it has the extra support for the eXplorist models.
  11. MapSend Topo Canada is not a 3D product. You can only view 3D in MapSend Lite if the product is 3D. I am using MapSend Tolo 3D USA with MapSend Lite to view my maps in 3D.
  12. Did you notice if your GPSr was losing 3D tracking during the zigzags? The GPS satellite signals have very specific data patterns that the GPSr locks onto to get ranging data. It is very possible for external RF interference to cause data corruptions in the received signal, however this would only cause a loss of some or all satellite tracking. The loss of some satellites could cause the EPE errors to increase or even loss of 3D lock. I have heard of cell phones being too close to a GPSr and causing locking problems. It is very possible that cell towers could also be causing locking problems. The other possible source of locally generated errors is multipath signal errors. This is where the satellite signals are reflecting off tall buildings or rock surfaces before getting to the GPSr. The GPSr could be locking onto these reflected signals since the data patterns are still intact. This essentially increases the satellite signal delay received at the GPSr causing false readings. However, this type of error could only account for about a meter of error at most and not to the degree of your errors.
  13. Well Hawaii for one has no XM coverage. It's real funny that local ads with promoting XM radio products but, you can't use them in Hawaii!
  14. I just purchased City Navigator NT NA from Amazon ($115) and received the full 2008 DVD disk. So apparently they are shipping the latest version now. The website does not specify the version but they are shipping the full 2008 release. The DVD indicates a product code "007-00889-02 Rev. A" Check it out: City Navigator NT North America 2008 from Amazon
  15. I picked up a set of cables from pc-mobile.net for my eXplorist 300. I have used it successfully in NMEA mode to track position on my PC. You need to use the special service codes to set the unit up for NMEA transfers. It works great! I have not figured out how to transfer any data (waypoints or tracks) yet. You may need some special software from that Russian site for that. I may try that later. Note: There are two different cable sets from pc-mobile.net. One is the standard DB9 serial cable. The other is a USB version. I have both and they both work okay, but I prefer the USB cable since it is powered thru the USB interface as well. The DB9 serial cable requires an external power source which could also be from USB (kind of redundant connection). Also you could use one of those cigarette lighter USB adapters to power the unit externally.
  16. You may need to use "Conversion Manager" to transfer maps and waypoints to the eXplorist depending on the version of MapSend you have. Older versions did not support direct transfers to the eXplorist. If you have MapSend Topo 3D USA v1.5, it will support more direct transfers with the eXplorist. Also if you download MapSend Lite Beta v2.00e it will also support direct transfers. Keep in mind you will need to have the eXplorist setup in USB file transfer mode and Internal Memory selected. 17. The two WAAS (POR / AOR-W) satellites that was serving the West and East coast has been decommissioned as of July 30, 2007. There are two (GAL XV / ANIK F1R) that are replacing them, unfortunately both on the west coast, which will be very low on your horizon. The PRN#120 AOR-E is the European version of WAAs called EGNOS, so that is why your gpsr can't use it. Satellite Name & Details SVN / PRN Location Galaxy XV ID #48 / PRN #135 133°W Anik F1R ID #51 / PRN #138 107°W Pacific Ocean Region (POR) ID #47 / PRN #134 178°E (Ceased WAAS transmissions 7/30/07) Atlantic Ocean Region-West ID #35 / PRN #122 142°W (Ceased WAAS transmissions 7/30/07) Atlantic Ocean Region-East ID #33 / PRN #120 15.5°W (EGNOS not WAAS) I can see both current WAAS satellites PRN#135 and PRN#138 but I am in Hawaii so they are fairly high on my horizon. All the big three companies Garmin, Magellan, Lawrance can pick up these WAAS satellites, including the Delorme PN-20. I know most gpsr users of the contenental US can pick up both of these satellites as well, except on some part of the east cost which are limited to PRN#138. You may need to get to a higher ground to see PRN#138 from where you are. Check out: WAAS news
