  1. Reporting Island Farm Road at N39º 00.072' W78º 20.362'
  2. Since I take my GPSr everywhere, especially when traveling, the 60C made a great travel alarm! Yeah, I miss it too. A lot of people complained about it when the Cx models came out.
  3. I have 27 new streets compiled now. I can do one every 2 weeks now and that would do us for a whole year. Submitted Oxbow Drive with address information at N39º 00.074' W78º 20.364' in Strasburg, VA.
  4. On the other side of the coin, why do Americans pay $100.00 for the same drug that Canadians and Mexicans get for $20.00? And we're talking about drugs produced here in the United States... Seems like we should be paying $20.00 and the rest of the world should be paying $100.00!
  5. Did you, by any chance, play the built-in games on the unit a lot?
  6. If you load topos now, it will override the CN maps. What you need to do is re-load the topos and the CN maps at the same time. First select the City Nav maps you want to upload to the GPSr, then switch to the Topo maps and select the ones you want to upload as well. After you have all of the different maps selected, THEN send them to your GPSr. I've got City Select, Topos, WorldMaps, Waterways and Lights all loaded into my Cx
  7. I was out caching and I looked down at the screen to select the next cache and the screen looked smeared or skewed. So I cut it off and then powered it back up. The screen remained blank and it started emitting a high pitched whine. WHICH WOULD NOT STOP. It was terrible! I tried everything to get it to stop. Nothing worked. It was probably killing my poor dog's ears. So I had to head back home. I tried covering it up with a jacket to dull the sound. It whined the rest of the day and night. Finally the next morning the noise had stopped. It would power on but then cut off after a few seconds. BTW, it was fully charged and its a Garmin Quest. Yeah... uh... never heard of THAT happening. Wow! That'd definitely be something Garmin would have to fix. They'll most likely send you another unit, so the chances of that happeing again would be extremely remote!
  8. Garmin's customer service is top notch! Many here have reported having their units repaired by Garmin despite being out of warranty. Try calling them at 1-800-800-1020. You may have to wait a while to talk to someone, but once you get someone, I'm sure things will go smoothly. What exactly is the problem with the unit? We may have discussed it here in the past and may be able to offer a solution without you having to send it back...
  9. From Garmin's Web site: http://www.garmin.com/unlock/update.jsp
  10. I have a 60Cx that goes with me everywhere. I have a 60C that my wife uses sometimes. I also have an old Garmin eMap that I can't bear to part with. I have a 3-year-old daughter - maybe when she turns 21, I might let her play with it...
  11. I've bought 2 different SanDisk cards and never needed to format them. I just plugged 'em in and they worked.
  12. actually the x in the model of the Garmin line means it has a removeable microSD flash memory card not that it is a SIRF unit... Uhhh... you're both wrong! The "x" in the model means it's an "'X'-treme handheld". The Legend Cx, Vista Cx, and Venture Cx units do not have SiRF chipsets. The Venture Cx doesn't have any memory card (you must supply your own for that model).
  13. Mark your current position as a waypoint, but before actually saving it, edit the coordinates.
  14. PLEASE DON'T YELL! I have an eye-ache
  15. You get to unlock the maps to two GPSrs. If you own only one GPSr, and it supports the NT version, by all means get the NT version. If you own two GPSrs, and only one of them supports NT, then get the non-NT version so you can use the maps with both GPSrs. In my case, I have a 60C and a 60Cx. The 60Cx supports NT, but the 60C does not, so I will get the City Navigator NA 9 when it comes out.
  16. Save some memory for Custom Points of Interest and tracking on the data card.
  17. Big waste of money - better spent on mapping products, a nice case or screen protector. The best way to learn how to use the thing is to open the box - read the first few pages of the manual on how to turn it on and initialize it. Read a little more beyond that - then get outside and play with it a little bit. Don't worry about screwing up the settings because you can always reset the unit back to factory defaults and start all over. If you have questions, go back to the manual. If it ain't in the manual, then the answer is no farther away than this forum!
  18. I had a similar problem where I went on a road trip from Annandale, VA to Front Royal, VA (about 60 miles). About 20 miles into the trip, I noticed that I lost all reception. I tried lots of things like clearing all data, hard reset, anything I could think of - but nothing worked. As a matter of fact, the remote locks would not work on the vehicle when we arrived at our destination either - had to manually insert the key into the door to unlock it. Well, I just gave up on it, but left the GPSr powered on just for the heck of it and forgot about it. When we got home I noticed the GPSr was tracking again. A quick download of the tracks to MapSource revealed that the unit started tracking again in the same area where it first lost reception! I'd done the trip many times before and many times after, but it only happened that one day. Very strange. Only thing I could figure was some sort of frequency jamming going on in the area.
  19. City Navigator 9 should come out in July or August of 2007. They come out with a new version every year about that time.
  20. They would be separate maps used independently of each other. You would have to switch between the different maps.
  21. New firmware and chipset updates have been released for the C(S)x series. I've already upgraded my unit but I haven't had a chance to test it for this problem yet - hopefully this weekend... I will still report the problem to Garmin though. I would suggest emailing the problem to Garmin using the following link on their Web site: http://www.garmin.com/contactUs/techSupport.jsp This will create an official paper trail whereas phone calls can be documented however the technician sees fit (dismissed as a vibration issue).
  22. Only way I know how to do it is on the PC. I can't find a way to do it on the GPSr (doesn't necessarily mean it can't be done).
