  1. Hi Danie - any chance for an update on this graph? Would be interesting to see if the trend is still upwards - as I only seem to see TBs at events nowadays?
  2. Some Earthcache stats as of August 22 2016 EARTHCACHE STATS - see also the seperate thread As of 22 Aug 2016 ECs by Prov Eastern Cape 56 Free State 6 Gauteng 47 Kwazulu Natal 62 Limpopo 19 Mpumalanga 44 North West 9 Northern Cape 20 Western Cape 84 TOTAL 347 - so getting the Earthcache rewards is now a lot easier. Trusting the many more cachers now have their Earth Cache Masters (Platinum) - and 100 ECs is also now so much more possible for local cachers. western Cape have dominated this type - and a good few new ones planned for the MEGA too - so lloks lik it may be the first province to break 100 earthcaches on its own.
  3. Danie - any chance of an update on the number of trackables and coins in circulation in SA currently. I would imagine that is also seeing a downward trend?
  4. I seem to recall reading about an EC in the USA regarding natural salt mine - and having to lick the surface of the rock??? Many photos of that too - sorry - can't remember to post that one. Also in Qatar i remember doing a "singing dunes: cache that involved running down a sand dune.
  5. Eish - can you believe. I've never had this happen - but I see a lot of threads about eBay coins and even caches for sale. Was it an activated coin - or an unactivated one in your collection?
  6. working now - will test this afternoon in field - I did nothing ?????
  7. I'd really just like to take accurate / or at least an time averaged waypoint to check later for hiding (Perhaps it can do this already)?
  8. See images: Geocaching app (iOS) - only 1 cache visible Geocaching classic app (same area - many caches)
  9. Nope - confirmed - update 4.4.2 from 12 July - and still no caches showing. Can it be confirmed that this was a bug fixed?
  10. Yep - I'm getting this too. No caches - except if I actually know the GC number and can search for it - then it shows. Also forcing a new search - clearing filters / or running filters also do not help. And this is particularly frustrating - because it is not an area where I run normal quueries - I may be travelling and want to do it a few 100km form home base - plus i do not expect to have to run queries to get caches visible? This is happening in Durban area of South Africa- I had a similar problem in other parts of africa - and Germany (Munich) - seemed to work just fine in Lyon France? I logged in using my Reviewer Account name on the app.
  11. Well finally (I got around to doing this). The winner from the 32 new Earthcaches submitted in this period - and selected with an Excel spreadsheet random number generator is: iPajero for : Grootrivierpoort Well done - we'll deliver your coin shortly.
  12. we now have 341 active Earthcaches in south Africa! W Cape = 83 KZN = 61 E Cape = 56 Gauteng = 46 Moumalanga = 43 N Cape = 20 Limpopo = 18 North West = 8 Free State = 6
  13. Congratulations to Eastern Cape - you have just broken the 2000 active caches mark.
  14. Seriously - we now have 341 active Earthcaches in south Africa! W Cape = 83 KZN = 61 E Cape = 56 Gauteng = 46 Moumalanga = 43 N Cape = 20 Limpopo = 18 North West = 8 Free State = 6
  15. My useless stat for the day: It has been more than a month since danie posted any stats - that is probably the longest gap since 2007
  16. Fascinating! How did you get this - did you just ask Groundspeak? One of the lackeys did some analysis - he is a very active "coin-head" - so it is something close to his heart too. And I guess like you Danie - also loves stats
  17. 18. I know some EC Reviewers were looking in to adding this when Gary (Geoaware) was still around. Perhaps one of the people involved may comment - it was an offline spreadsheet only.
  19. Danie Do you mind updating this please? Thanks
  20. As the administrator of the Earthcache program, GeoawareHQ (Matt) is also very helpful in assisting in answering queries and issues if there is a misunderstanding between you and your appointed reviewer. I always find that communication via emails are always useful. Often with an earthcache - there are many issues that need addressing - and it may appear to be a HUGE task - but as they say in Africa - you eat an elephant one bite at a time. So keep on plugging away - and if you have a fundamental difference of opinion or misunderstanding due to culture/language/local knowledge etc. - then feel free to ask if you could involve Matt (I'm sure most reviewers would be happy to have his respected inputs to assist). At the end of the day I think we ALL want more earthcaches published.
  21. interesting - I would have thought coffee; braai; cold drink; beer or wine would have made it too?
  22. This is rather alarming that 1 in 4 cachers only find 1 cache! So when we introduce people - they do not carry on - and they only find a single cache. We really need to try and convert those people - because I find new cachers bring that enthusiasm and excitement back to cacching. Just looking at KZN - many of the new trails, gadget caches, geo art - have all been from cachers who are relatively new - i.e. less than 2 years on. Similarly - we need to encourage those "bunt out" cachers of 3 to 5 years top remain involved.
  23. WC - I wonder if the Swartland Trail helped on that - but phenomenal growth. Pity we can't see the growth / activity of foreign cachers in the WC especially. And in 2016 the MEGA will grow that too. KZN - shew - did the MEGA in 2014 really make such a difference?
