  1. Ok...did I ever say that I know more than anyone else? Nope. Have I put someone else down for the mere number of finds? Nope. Do I relate being able to discuss a topic to doing it everyday? Nope. I could almost see what you are saying, if I didn't have any finds. But as stated in the topic "I'm Concerned", I've stated reasons that I only have 16 finds in a little over a month. Of course compared to a selected few, the average is not very many. But to many others, 16 finds in a 40 days is not that bad. I've never said I have anything to teach. Let's get this straight, anyone can cache. There's no science to it. There's a difference between discussing something and actually doing it. Agreed. You may know the guys you ride with and whether or not they can put forth more into riding. You do not know me and my circumstances. Just because i'm online alot does not meant that I can use that same time and go out and cache. It's farther from the truth. Talking about something you like is better than not talking about it all. Especially if you can't do it. When you get to that point, you lose all interest. As someone else mentioned there are other things that are just as important and I will add, if not more important. If you don't like me posting and think that there is a certain reputation to earn because I post, in your opinion, too much, then that's fine. You yourself have posted nearly 2600 times in 17 months. Give me 17 months time and see if my post count is 2600, then you can gripe. Will it mean anything? Nope. Learning as to teaching....hmmm I don't think I've ever said that I didn't have anything to learn. Have I helped out anyone on here with something I've learned already? Read my posts and see. Doesn't he know you can't post that many times? Ack! Geocaching will come to an end! He can't possibly learn anything if he keeps posting! I can't believe he actually has an opinion! Is he trying to take over? Does he really find it enjoyable to post? Anymore questions, concerns, or complaints? Take a number Brian As long as you're going to think anyway, think big. -Donald Trump
  3. I like the idea of the luggage travel ones. I think you might be able to find a good size that a business card size printout would fit in. I agree about the TB mission instructions. We picked up a bug without any information on it. We did the same thing with our first travel bug. It dawned on us yesterday that we didn't even know the TB would be ther, what it's name was, what it's mission was or anything. We decided to grab it and see if our trip at the end of this week would help it or not. Luckily it will, otherwise we would of taken it back or placed in another local cache. Our 2nd bug we included the mission instructions with it. Brian As long as you're going to think anyway, think big. -Donald Trump
  4. You mean you didn't see the moving numbers in the sky BrianSnat? My question, is what do you attach it to and how do you retrieve it? Brian As long as you're going to think anyway, think big. -Donald Trump
  5. Not sure as to the part about measuring the distance, but the military training I received on map reading, trained ou to read the topomap. The topo map tells you were ridges are, how to read the land (hills), landmarks and etc. The online topo maps like at topozone pinpoints the coordinates on the map. As renegade stated about the aerials, that just helps you even more. I believe it's a lot more search than with a GPS for the most part, but it can be done. Yes you do use a compass. We were taught more or less the map reading thing for "Call for fire" (calling for support or artillery). Brian As long as you're going to think anyway, think big. -Donald Trump
  6. quote:Originally posted by georgeandmary: You know what, I read most of that original thread and I had no idea that this was your situation. Your posts were so long and there were so many of them that the point was lost. Brevity is the key to communication. george Wanna go for a ride? That's the problem, people didn't read the whole thing. Actually one posting of mine probably and should of been enough to explain that. But, unfortunately people do not read the whole thing, read only a short posting of someone bashing another and think they understand the thread and jump the band wagon. That thread was extended by at least 2 pages if not more of bashing and bash-defense on my part. The first page and maybe part of the second page pretty much summed up that idea. Brevity may be the key to communication, but not the key to getting the details across and understood. Brian As long as you're going to think anyway, think big. -Donald Trump
  7. Why? If there are more somewhere else, why not rack up my finds? There seems to be a lot of focus on numbers around here, might as well help it out as much. 20 finds? I'm at 16 right now. Not bad for just a little over a month if I do say so myself. When I get to 20, then you will be saying 30. It's not like i'm placing and maintaining caches in the other areas. 8. They started at 6 am and and finished at midnight. That's 18 hours. That's an average of 6.3 - 6.4 caches an hour. One cache per 9.5 minutes? That's going straight through. That's not allowing time for bathroom breaks, food or anything else. There's also travel time and log signing... Looked at the caches for that zip code and it is very well saturated. By the descriptions and the distances, there seems to be a bunch not seperated with the .1 distance. Guess we all need to go to Nashville for a couple days and rack up some finds. 9. quote:Originally posted by McCaughan Family: ps. the plastic tag could be designed like the photo key flobs so a printed "goal" could be inserted into it. Instructions pre-printed on one side; printable goal snapped into the other side. That's a great idea! I think having the general instructions on one side and then a place where you could insert the TB instructions/goal on the other is an absolutely fantastic idea. 10. Thanks Scott, I think I got it edited correctly or where it sounds better now.
  11. Bloen, this all somewhat of what I was describing on the distant caches on the thread I got bashed on. There is no difference in what the ones that Renegade were referring to, do, than from what I was asking about, with the exception of I was speaking of the cache would not be in my name and would be owned by the local cacher. And I was talking about placing a cache in an area I am very familiar with and in my hometown(although I do not reside there now). Of course they would register the cache and it would be in their name and their responsibility. Now it would be nice if they mentioned me in the cache description, but it wouldn't be necessary. 12. While in the last vacation thread that Jeremy said vacation caches would be allowed only with certain circumstances. Here's what Jeremy said. quote:If you place a cache and the land owner has agreed to maintain it, you are welcome to place one on vacation. To do this you need to put the land manager's contact information (phone number or email will do) on the cache page so if it needs maintaining the geocacher can contact them. Otherwise don't place caches on vacation. It's irresponsible behavior to hide something you have no intention of maintaining. I would agree that in your case it is not a good idea, as well as Briansnat's statement about temporary caches. Got your flame proof suit on? 13. Back to school already? Our son hasn't been out for a month yet! lol... actually they go back here towrads teh end of August. Sure is a short summer up here. Brian As long as you're going to think anyway, think big. -Donald Trump
  14. Ok, had time to go caching today and this cache I was asking about was somewhat on the way, or lets just say I amde it along the way. I have to agree with the rest of the people that go after this cache, including the one that did it in the last couple of days. I drove all around trying to find a way to get to this cache without the way that others said. The cache is in the woods behind an apartment complex. The complex is situated that the parking places are numbered for the tenants. There is a field/playground that is about 50 yards long before you get to the woods. After pulling into the complex and seeing the situation, I did not feel right about trespassing here to go after the cache and did not. I still have not heard anything back from the cache maintainer about the private property issue. The person who just found it receently made mention that they didn't think this was a good hide and with the circumstances I witnessed, I have to agree. 15. For those concerned, we did 4 caches today. Would of been 5 caches, but one was on private property or you had to park on private property (apartment complex) in tenant assigned parking places and cross the playground area to get to the woods where it was located. 16. Easy...that number says it hasn't been released yet and that it's in the hand of the owner.. Also I was advised before not to post the numbers of the TB's as it makes it easier to bogusly move it around and rack up miles. You might want to edit that part out of the message. 17. It gives you the option to post it if you want to. It can be whatever URL you enter and is not necessarily your profile page. Brian As long as you're going to think anyway, think big. -Donald Trump

  19. I know we bagged 3 here in the same Conservation area. They were pretty close, but not within the .1 mile of each other I don't believe. Maybe 2 of them were close to it, but the way we ended up going they weren't I don't think there are no territorial issues here or there shouldn't be. I would say that it isn't courteous to place one within that prescribed distance. The one who has placed on within that distance, didn't do their part of checking before placing the cache as well as the approver. But, I do not know if the approver can plot them out or not on their computer. Do they? I thought I read on a thread that they do. If you find it to be a problem (too close) then I would email the cache placer as well as CC the approver. Explain to them that the cache was placed in less distance prescribed by the guidlines and leave it at that. I wouldn't demand that it be moved. Just see if they decide to take action. If you don't see anything after a while then email the approver and express your concerns. He might be happy to help you or not. Then you decide later how you want to handle it. It's a box in the woods that you took time to place. But I wouldn't get overly bent out of shape over it. AS many others stated here, they wouldn't mind it. 20. quote:Originally posted by Geo Quest: quote:Originally posted by yummykaz:.... woman jumped out of her car across the street from my office. _Butt naked_. She stood in front of a gun store. Personal pet peeve of mine. The correct phrase is "buck naked". I know I have issues. "Wise men talk because they have something to say. Fools talk because they have to say something." -- Plato What's a naked "Buck"? A naked male deer(or other animal species)? A naked George Washington? Just kidding... Team Bernie, while I agree that you should show some affection to your spouse and the thing of censorship, I believe there is a difference between being nude and having sex. 21. Bloen this does sound familiar... But I will stay out of this one and sit back for a little while and see what is said before posting remarks for it. Brian As long as you're going to think anyway, think big. -Donald Trump
  22. There are plenty of caches around here....but like I stated, there are only certain times that I can go out after them and then sometimes those times are not practical due to family things. My wife makes the money. That is one reason we have moved to Massachusetts was for a job that she took. She's in the medical field and makes a lot more money than I did or would in my previous career, Law Enformcement. I run a few websites as well as stay home with our kids, 2yr (almost) and a 12 yr old. It's all more than a full time job. A little over a year ago, we decided for me to stay home with the kids. Our 2 yr old was in daycare and every other week she would be sick or something. Since then she has been sick maybe once. My wife doesn't get home until 6 or so in the evening. She is also a Beauty Consultant and that takes her time away as well. So during the week it is not feasible for us, son and I, to go after caches. Weather is also an obstacle up here for us. 23. Verboten, I was joking with you as well, you left it open. Luckily/Unluckily I am in a position that I am online most all day long(during the week) and don't have the chance to search for caches during the week normally. My time to go after them is only on the weekends and then not everytime I don't get the chance to go then. I like geocaching, so if I can talk about it, it keeps me interested. If not then I would lose interest in it. Trust me, I do what I can and when I can, but my family comes first. Yes GPSaxophone, he may have 3 times as much but he has been here a couple months longer as well. It may be easier for him to go out than I. 25. I think the nude dude (Nude Cacher) understands the viewpoint from Jeremy on it. I also believe he understands that the nude pictures were not to the liking of others here. I do have to agree with Pet Posse somewhat though. People do like to put others down on here when it comes to something they don't believe in or like. Then there are others that jump the band wagon for fear that they will be one of the people as posse said, ripped to shreds. Many people on here agree that is was not apporpriate to have that kind of stuff on the website here. That's fine. But does putting the links to it for everyone to see make it any better? Ok, so lets say you don't want your kids seeing that. Imagine how many kids that logged on to the forums saw it and went to the link and saw the pics while they were still up? Not picking on Yeam 5-oh! at all, because this happens all the time in the forums. It seems to be a point when something is discussed, especially something negatively against someone, that someone posts the link to that specific cache. And just like anywhere else, that persons rep is ruined. We can all try to act like goody 2 shoes and say we are offended by such things. But I guarantee that there are things that you do that others would be appalled at themselves. "Do not cast stones in a glass house". As stated I think we agree that a nude photo is not appropriate. Posting propaganda is not appropriate. Let's leave it at that. No one is trying to influence others. People only let others influence them.
