  1. Thanks cruzin. If anyone out there that uses a pocket pc can email of what I can do with it in this respect, please do. Otherwise I will start doing some more research into it sometime, maybe tomorrow. Brian As long as you're going to think anyway, think big. -Donald Trump
  2. I see no problem with asking the question...if someone doesn't want to answer then they don't have to. It was simple enough for me to markwell. If I didn't want to bother, I wouldn't of. I personally don't think you should have to research every frickin thing. You type in in something and you will get plenty of threads to weed through that only 10% will have answers and the other 90% are of people bashing each other. 3. Can a pocket pc be used instead of a palm? I was telling my wife about getting a cheap palm to use and she said that I could use her pocket pc and she would get a palm because for one the computers at her work will not hook up to the pocket pc but will with the palms(has to do with the serial/connections) and 2) there is another application in which she wants to use that is not designed for the pocket pc. So if everything will work with the pocket pc, I may be in business very soon. So does anyone know if it will work with it? Brian As long as you're going to think anyway, think big. -Donald Trump
  4. Man, you gonna get bashed for that question...as it just made it rounds....lol There's more about it here. Brian As long as you're going to think anyway, think big. -Donald Trump
  5. It's just a sig item huntn lady....would be surprised to see someone wearing it on their lapel actually other than them...some people do collect lapel pics and that would be a neat thing. I like the idea as well as the patch one...I just wish they were embroidered patches...I collect police patches, pins and etc and would love to get something made up like those...hmmm perhaps the "GeoPolice!" 6. And on that note as well Baloo...have y'all seen my find count lately? I've been working on it.....and I actually agreed to something you said Baloo...I guess we all have our off days...now which one was mine? Brian As long as you're going to think anyway, think big. -Donald Trump

The thing is I bought my wife a Pocket PC for christmas (nearly $400) and well if she gets that neat little toy then why shouldn't I? It would of been useful for the trip home (vacation?). 8. I would imagine the signs are there for a reason. If you think they are there for other reasons than to not pass them, then contact the responsible party for that land and the trail. Ask them if it is allowed to hike past those signs. Forward whatever response you get to the approver if they say its ok. I would also place it on the cache page, because if I were a cacher and were going after it and saw the sign when I got there, I would be pissed. Honestly even if they say it's ok and they leave the signs up, I don't think it's a good idea. I would hate to be the one that gets "caught" and charged with trespassing. It's a tough call of what to do. Yes it's not fair if others do that and you feel honest and don't do it. You can either let the other cache owners know, flag the ones that are behind markef no trespassing signs (and not nmake many friends), or just let it go and look for another place to put a cache. One illegal action by someone else doesn't warrant one from you in return... Brian As long as you're going to think anyway, think big. -Donald Trump
  9. Is that a picture of whats on the pin or the actual pin? Looks like just a graphic. How much are the lapel pins running? Brian As long as you're going to think anyway, think big. -Donald Trump
  10. Them are fightin words Renegade Knight....lol That just makes too much dang sense... Brian As long as you're going to think anyway, think big. -Donald Trump
  11. I think it should lie on a number (finds or a date). Like BrianSnat stated, even expereinced cachers can lose that cache sense from time to time. People have their off days. Not sure how this forum software works, but I know my message borad software and a couple others lets you have different "pips" set up underneath the avatar. They are mainly set up for the amount of messages, but I would imagine that one that knows how to manipulate the code (Jeremy) could set it up with the total number of finds. They also have group names, so Newbie could be the first one until an "X" amount of finds are found and then they go up to the next group name and so on. 12. Topozone has mapcards in which I just noticed...it's a pay subscription thing, but looks pretty cool...they do aerials as well.. On this subject as well, I just learned this past week that Topozone is a local company to where I live. Pretty cool! Brian As long as you're going to think anyway, think big. -Donald Trump
  13. Kind of on the subject as this pocket query thing is intriguing me a little, but does anyone know of the best and cheapest place to get a PDA suitable for the downloaded pages? Brian As long as you're going to think anyway, think big. -Donald Trump
  14. Vacation Cache? VT? hmmmm I can drive to VT in less than an hour... wonder if i can maintain it....lol Brian As long as you're going to think anyway, think big. -Donald Trump
  15. Gotta agree with Baloo...Neither cache should be approved if either one was placed when the no trespassing signs were up. From what it sounds like is that you placed your cache in an illegal manner and sat on it to wait for it to become legal (trespassing signs removed). That would be like people going and placing caches on NPS lands knowing they are not supposed to and then waiting for perhaps the NPS to allow cahces and those would say I got here first. Well yeah, maybe they did, but not when it was legal. Should of make a call to the approver back when the other person placed theirs and if they did so behind trespassing signs. Kind of hard to push it now when there are no signs, theirs is apporved and yours isn't. Brian As long as you're going to think anyway, think big. -Donald Trump
  16. I just learned about it today...and it's only 2 days away. Kind of short notice...plus they want the volunteers to contact them. It's already a planned event as well. Brian As long as you're going to think anyway, think big. -Donald Trump
  17. Going to post this in the New England section of the forum, but thought some from the area may not read it in that section and sounds like a good idea. Althought I won't be able to attend this, In Leomnister, MA on August 2nd (Saturday), they will be having a cleanup of the Monoosnoc Brook. The paper I received says this is the 16th year of doing this and will be help from 10am - 12 noon. They are asking for volunteers. In the 16 years they have removed 120 tons of trash. I beleive it says there's a barbecue afterwards as well as giving out prizes and tshirts for the volunteers. More info on the brook can be found at www.ourbrook.org . If you want to know who to contact or more info on the article, feel free to email me. Brian As long as you're going to think anyway, think big. -Donald Trump

Ordering from Groundspeak is more environmentally friendly. Isn't the extra dollar or two worth that? And the mailman doesn't? Nor the big trucks and airplanes that move the products? Sorry couldn't resist , but i'm sure someone is going to signify this as putting impact on the environment just like caching...lol I do support buying things from Groundspeak, as they said it helps them make things better and supports them. 20. Let someone know where your going to be (area, coordinates, etc) and what time you SHOULD be back... Brian As long as you're going to think anyway, think big. -Donald Trump

  22. I'll agree with that Joe. AS you stated you either maintain them or have someone do it for you, which is the right thing to do. I've stated before, no cache should not be placed with the intent or capability of it being maintained. As you stated, it is disrespectful and anyone who does that should be banned from placing caches. Others have mentioned the point also that a person should place so many caches before being abled to place one. I have no problem with that also. 23. quote:Originally posted by GPS_Brian: Freedom's just another word for nothin' left to lose. Seriously, the freedom angle just doesn't work. You aren't free to walk into my backyard and plant a geocache 'cause it's my land, not yours. Similarly, you aren't free to walk into the NPS land and plant a cache becuase it too isn't your land. We may agree that it is our land, but that "our" part imparts a greater responsibility to ensure that the activities are not an imposition on freedoms of the other constituents of "our". On a similar note, I don't see it being favorable to argue that it should be allowed because there are other high impact activities taking place. The argument should stand on it's own. What are the benefits to the NPS and the public to allow geocaching on NPS lands? And, what are the possible consequences and how can they be mitigated? I can see geocaching working quite well in many NPS lands and there are many sound arguments that could support it, including the added awareness of the lands that it brings to participants, trail cleanup, etc. And I think most of the negative consequences raised can be mitigated through thoughtful restrictions. Worried about trails, limit a cache placement to two years. Worried about adminstrative costs, charge an application fee for the cache. etc. I think it is a good idea that Team360 had brought forward and I think the GC community could be very well served if a strong, common argument, is put to the NPS. -=-=-=-=-=- GPS_Brian =-=-=-=-=-= Ditto 100%. 24. Hehe I'm surprised someone hasn't said, "here goes another trying to change the rules"... I imagine they have their reasons. Perhaps lack of interest or lack of people asking htem about it. Maybe people who want to cache in those areas should email them or do up a petition. But as far as the point of that they allow other things that already due harm, adding something else (although probably doing less harm) does not make it any better. Plus those other things they allow have been around a lot longer than geocaching. I think the NPS has taken on a different approach to things lately in protecting what they have, and just as geoacaching "grandfathered" caches that would not be allowed now, they have done the same to the activities which they already allow.
