  2. Ex AF Security Police here, and with the given current hightened alert status today, I think you should be happy that they wouldn't allow you in. What if they allowed others in with the same item? What if they were not as honest as you are? No you wouldn't take over the base with it, but it saves a lot of heartache and the chance that someone could get hurt. They are there to protect not only for life, but for limb as well. They are also there to protect property. Of course any terrorist or thug can use just about anything that is allowed and cause more harm. They can only restrict so much. The obvious things are what get restricted. Have worked in a prison setting (state and federal for around 10 yrs altogether) and have seen very many things that one can use and design to cause death or injury to another. Be happy that they did what they did and they did what they were supposed to do. Back in '92 I had a kubaton (keychain) taken from me in the Atlanta Airport. For those who don't know what it is, it's a plastic stick about 6" long. Blount of both ends. It's used for self defense , but you can use a ball point pen for the same thing. Even though I was a peace officer, I was still not allowed to have it and I wasn't flying, I was picking up someone. Brian As long as you're going to think anyway, think big. -Donald Trump
  3. Voted no. I've brought up the question about oversaturation for future cachers before and the concern of it. It was more than stated that people were opposed to any restrictions of the sort. I wouldn't be opposed to the fact that a person can place only a certain amount of caches (that are active). But if there are not going to be any restrictions or security measures against other things, like puppet accounts placing caches or an actual distance stnadard, then I don't see the use in it. 4. Wife had a pocket pc. I'm using it for the queries now. The GPXview software is great and easy. I was going to buy a Palm, but she is going to get one. Her work is behind times and they can't support the pocket pc, but they can the palm. There is also some software that she wants to get that they only make for Palm. Sounded like a good deal to me! It's a hp iPAQ Pocket PC h1910 with a rechargeable battery. Hasa 200 MHz Intel XScale Processor, 16 MB NAND flash and 64 MB SDRAM (46 MB user accessible). Also has an SD memory slot. The screen is in color (16 bit) and has an LED backlight. Brian As long as you're going to think anyway, think big. -Donald Trump

Or what if a young child takes the log book, tears out a piece of paper, swallows it and chokes to death on it. This dangerous cache should have never been approved! Or the dreaded papercut from the logbook! Was their a warning that the paper was sharp? Brian As long as you're going to think anyway, think big. -Donald Trump
  6. hmmm..just went to order some of the tokens from Tokenfactory and it quoted me a much higher price! I originally had art on both sides with text and consecutive numbering in the 1 1/2 " size. Quoted me $73. Noticed they are charging added amounts. Changed it around and changed the size to 1 1/8", glow in the dark, art on one side, no numbering and text on both sides. $19 for the tokens, $6 for the "glow in the dark' and a $25 setup (under min. order of 500). Total $50 for 100 tokens? That is crazy. Are people sure they are getting them for a total of $25 for 100? Brian As long as you're going to think anyway, think big. -Donald Trump
  7. Go to www.microsoft.com/security for more on the new one out... Brian As long as you're going to think anyway, think big. -Donald Trump
  8. South Carolina Scotts Ferry Cache Brian As long as you're going to think anyway, think big. -Donald Trump
  9. Went ahead and ordered the one from GPSgeek as others here have experience with them and the total price with shipping and all was only $21. less than half the price of buying one at REI. Also less than just the 12v power cord bought at any local store. Brian As long as you're going to think anyway, think big. -Donald Trump
  10. Would be neat if the pocket queries included benchmarks as well or where you could do a seperate query for just benchmarks. I noticed on the disciption for one of the local benchmarks that it is "owned" by someone. Does that meant the land? I think it refers to a private drive as well. Is that common? 11. quote:Originally posted by Peppermill 6-Pack:Will the data cable work on the cheaper yellow etrex's? I haven't read where they will, but I'm hoping. Does the yellow etrex's have the data capability? I'm not sure, but I thought they didn't, but the same cable that fits the geko 201'a fit the etrex models, just not sure on the yellow one. Maybe someone can answer that. Brian As long as you're going to think anyway, think big. -Donald Trump
  12. Might just order the pc/power cable from gpsgeek on ebay. Cost is is less than $16 plus $5 shipping. Saves about $30! Brian As long as you're going to think anyway, think big. -Donald Trump
  13. Just found out there's an REI about 25 miles away and they have them on their website. Will try there possibly tomorrow. The data cable is $35 and the combo with the cigarette lighter is $50. Brian As long as you're going to think anyway, think big. -Donald Trump
  14. Well wee went to several places tonight. Target, Best Buy, Circuit City, and The Sports Authority. None of them carried the data cable. They all had the cigarette lighter adaptor for power. Brian As long as you're going to think anyway, think big. -Donald Trump
  15. yeah I jsut saw the cigarette lighter/pc cable as well for the etrex. I beleive the cables that work for the etrex's work for the gecko 201 as well.. Brian As long as you're going to think anyway, think big. -Donald Trump
  16. I became a premium member. As a website owner myself, I understand every little bit helps and wanted to do my part. I wasn't too sure about the pocket query thing, but I must say that so far it is pretty neat. My wife has a pocket pc or I should not say that she HAD one. I wanted to be able to carry something around that would show the cache pages as well as have the coordinates already in the GPS. Didn't need it, but it seems like a nice toy. It would of been really useful on the trip to Georgia a couple weeks ago. Well back on the pocket pc bit. I was contimplating getting a cheap palm pilot for what I wanted. But my wife spoke up about how the pocket pc I just got her this past christmas doesn't work some software that she wants to get but palm pilots do. She also mentioned how she can't synchronize it at her job, because they are behind the times. They can synchronize palms but not the pocket pc's. So she told me to use the pocket pc and she would get a cheap palm. Sounds like a fair trade to me! Thanks to Moun10Bike, I was able to download software to work with it and now have downloaded a pocket query. It works great. I can now see the caches which I haven't done in my immediate area. I set it to download the closest 200 of all kinds and it went out to only 31 miles from my zipcode. We have a good bit around here huh? I'm now going to work on getting a pc cable for my gecko 201 so I can get the waypoints downloaded to the gps as well. All in all, it was well worth it. I even feel more of like the team now than I did before! Be sure you sign up today as well. At less than $3 a month (paid yearly), I think it's well worth supporting them. 17. Got a question on the PC Cables for the Garmins owners out there. I was on the Garmin website for my Gecko 201 and it listed the accessory pc cable as the same one that the Etrex uses. Do all the Garmins use the same pc cable? Also besides ordering online somewhere (btw where's the place?), where can I go and purchase the cable? Does Walmart carry them? I know target had the Etrex GPS there but never paid attention about the cables, do they carry them? Brian As long as you're going to think anyway, think big. -Donald Trump
  18. Ok, got the pocket Pc working, downloaded the program that moun10bike referred me too and the demo works on it. Just signed up and am now a Premium Member. Gonna try a pocket query and see how that works. Wish me luck. Brian As long as you're going to think anyway, think big. -Donald Trump
  19. Ok...thanks for all y'alls help. I will try and go ahead and download that program that moun10bike mentioned and see if I can get it to work. If I can then I will try a premium membership and see if I can get the pocket queries to work in the pocket pc. I'll have to wait on the cable for the GPS later. I see a lot of mention about other programs like expertGPS, plucker, watcher and etc. What do those programs do and are they necessary? Do they go on the computer or the PDA/pocket pc? Brian As long as you're going to think anyway, think big. -Donald Trump
  20. Yeah I just looked at them myself...will probably order some. Gotta come up with some kind of art to put on the front opf it and hat I want it to say. Anyone getting theirs numbered? If so, are you going to have a tracking system on them? Brian As long as you're going to think anyway, think big. -Donald Trump
  21. Not sure if there is an exact measurement of a pace. My interpretation is that it's the normal stride distance. Some with longer legs will be more. Some with shorter legs will be different. Brian As long as you're going to think anyway, think big. -Donald Trump
  22. Ok...was reading around a little and am still a little confused. Are there 2 different type of pocket queries? Or is there just one that can be downloaded to both your GPS and PDA's/Pocket PC's? The reaosn I ask it that I currently don't have a cable for my GPS. But I would like to be able to use the pocket pc now. Is it the same query? I want to be able to view the pages on the pocket pc like I can on the computer. When I get a cable for the GPS later, will I be able to use the same query file to put in the GPS? Brian As long as you're going to think anyway, think big. -Donald Trump
  23. Thanks Moun10bike! Brian As long as you're going to think anyway, think big. -Donald Trump

  25. Thanks cruzin. If anyone out there that uses a pocket pc can email of what I can do with it in this respect, please do. Otherwise I will start doing some more research into it sometime, maybe tomorrow. Brian As long as you're going to think anyway, think big. -Donald Trump
