  1. Hi, I see there are 3166 caches in the UK for the moment. With some smart pocketqueries you should be able to get them all in GPX format in 2 days. But of course you need to be a member before you can get them.
  2. Hi, isn't this something that can be done with Geocaching Swiss Army Knife?
  3. I'm not an IT specialist, but couldn't a smart softwaremaker get this data pretty fast anyhow?
  4. I guess not, if you can get permission from the owner to place the cache there?
  5. And it doesn't crash as frequently as your PPC...
  6. There is already a complete thread about this problem: Whack a Vista As you see, this is a well known disease in the Etrex line...
  7. It seems an Etrex thing, my Vista has it also and I heard from someone wiht a Legend with the same problems... Have been whacking mine regularly for about 2 years now and it keeps working Garmin Europe proposed to fix it for GBP 75,- + postage but until now I haven't had the courage to separate myself from the device for a few weeks Guess I'll wait until I can afford to buy an other GPS and then I'll use the Vista as a spare.
  8. Am I still called a tadpole? Hmmm let me have a look after posting this...
  9. -Belgium -Netherlands -France -Germany -New Zealand -Luxemburg
  10. Professor, I don't agree with this quote! But I think we better not start a discussion about belgian politics on this forum... I don't think this has anything to do with geocaching.

Nothing wrong with the GPX-files I am getting... Strange
  12. I guess you need the following: - a premium membership + pocket-queries to get the data - a PDA to store the data - autorouting software for the PDA to get you to the cache - a cable to connect your PDA to your GPS
  13. In most cars with this type of windscreen there is a 'hole' somewhere in the metal film where you can get GPS reception. That is where the manufacturers put their own antenna or receiver. You might want to ask the dealer if such a hole exists and where you can find it. Sometimes it is behind the rearview mirror, sometimes you can find it at the bottom right hand side.
  14. All of my finds I was alone... Except for the occasional meeting when an other geocacher arrived at the cache at the same time as I did and for the one event I went to...
  15. Hi Jiheffe, at least two, you and me Most of us are active on www.geocaching.nl bye Joske ------------ "Yo no busco..., encuentro" (Pablo Picasso)
  16. Hi, I've been using an Extrex Vista for about 2 years now. I'm thinking of upgrading to a GPS V (who knows maybe Santa...). But I still have a few questions about the GPS V : => autorouting on the GPS V, does that mean 'key in the destination and go' or do you have to wait until the GPS V finishes the calculation for the route ? => when you leave the calculated route (for example to avoid a traffic jam), does the GPS V recalculate the route automagically, or do you have to stop and order it to recalculate ? => does the GPS V have the same problems in large cities as the Vista (too slow when using the map) ? => am I correct to assume that Mapsource isn't necessary any more when using a GPS V ? => does the GPS V use the same sets of maps as Mapsource ? => are there things on the Vista I'll miss if I use the GPS V ? Can you please let me know ? Thanks Joske ------------ "Yo no busco..., encuentro" (Pablo Picasso)
  17. Hmmm, maybe that's why I never saw the problem recently... I very rarely use the tracklog (except when really approaching a cache) and it never gets a chance to get at 99% I'll put it on from now and maybe I'll get the same problem sooner or later ?!? ------------ "Yo no busco..., encuentro" (Pablo Picasso)
  18. Hi, my vista showed this problem in the beginning (bought it in June 2001). Since upgrading the software I haven't seen this problem any more... bye Joske ------------ "Yo no busco..., encuentro" (Pablo Picasso)
  19. I had the same problem here. After messing around a little with Geobuddy I discovered you can't import any waypoints with the elevation different from 0. I guess this must be a bug in Geobuddy ???? ------------ "Yo no busco..., encuentro" (Pablo Picasso)

  21. quote: Well, I dunno. Pearwood is how they describe the handles on the Opinel website. See for yourself: OPINEL - Savoie's famous knife http://www.sav.org/e/opinel.html there is a mistake on that website, the Opinels I own and most of those I have seen until now have beech handles. On this site http://www.opinel-musee.com/idx_couteau.htm you can see, when you move your pointer over the handle ('manche' in french), that it is made of beech ('hêtre' in french). I never doubted about it however, I'm in the timber business ------------ "Yo no busco..., encuentro" (Pablo Picasso)
  22. Hi, I can't live without my Opinel, the only times I don't have it with me is when it is forbidden (on planes etc.). Opening a bottle of wine with it is not easy but can be done Normally the handles are beech, not pearwood. ------------ "Yo no busco..., encuentro" (Pablo Picasso)
  23. Hi, I encountered the same problem. I could solve it by setting the elevation of all waypoints to 0 before importing them into Geobuddy. Hope this helps ! ------------ "Yo no busco..., encuentro" (Pablo Picasso)
  24. no states for me (yet) up to now 5 countries : Belgium, Luxemburg, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Germany ------------ "Yo no busco..., encuentro" (Pablo Picasso)
  25. quote: Firstly, I noticed that the batteries are rated at 1.2v 1800mAH That's what it's all about, normal non-rechargeable batteries are rated 1.5v. This is why the indicater never shows full with the NiMH. I've been using NiMH in my Vista for about a year now without any problems. Of course Duracell's last longer but the overall cost is a lot higher than using rechargeable batteries. When geocaching I usually carry 2 sets of spare batteries, one set NiMH and one set of brand new Duracell's (never needed these yet). "Yo no busco..., encuentro" (Pablo Picasso)
