  1. It would have made more sense, and yes it is what I most likely would have done, but in the end it was his thread and unless an admin tells him to change it, I don't think it is really a big deal. quote:Originally posted by Jomarac5: quote: Michael Whitt wrote:What do you propose he should have listed it as? Dude, I think it would have been a whole lot better if it was named "Need help finding caches along a highway". Doesn't that make more sense? The real kicker here is the smart a$$ "made you look"comment in the first post of this thread. It implied that there was deliberate deception. *****

Yes, descriptive subjects would be a polite courtesy. And it is a SPAM technique -- I'm just calling it what it is. *****
  3. I once again come back to the question of SPAM. To me us continuing to fill up this thread with this nonsense is just as much SPAM as his subject. He wasn't trying to sell anything. YES he could have been more descriptive, but what did his subject hurt? Obviously you have the time to read it, even off topic, as you continue to go back and forth trying to convience him that it was spam. As long as it wasn't a subject like, "Hey Kids" and you open it up and it has links to porn sites, what does it matter? He had a legitiate question, but just didn't word the subject right. Do you honestly think that he was trying to trick people to read his posting? Is he really that vane that he would do that? What would be in it for him? quote:Originally posted by Jomarac5: quote: Michael Whitt wrote:I think we all could just say maybe we should be more descriptive in our subjects, but I see no reason to say it was a spam technique. 4. Oh dude, come on. What is the big dealo? What did you think the thread was going to be about? I thought it was geared to tech heads, and it was asking for Technical info. What do you propose he should have listed it as? I understand what you are saying, but come on, people are different. We all have been guilty of subjects like that. But to say that it was deceptive and off topic is really stretching it. 50% of all the postings on ANY message board could have this said of them. This is a board for fun, not some corporate or government lets go by the books message board. quote:Originally posted by Jomarac5: But he did it using deceptive measures. *****
  5. Uh dude, saying someone uses "spam techniques" sounds like you are calling them a spammer. I think we all could just say maybe we should be more descriptive in our subjects, but I see no reason to say it was a spam technique. quote:Originally posted by Jomarac5: quote: Woodsters wrote:Once again please read the spamlaws and try to understand the subject of SPAM some more.... I didn't say you were SPAMMING did I? I said that you were using SPAM techniques. *****
  6. Don't you think you are streching that a little. I mean if someone is going to be that picky about reading something off topic, just don't open anything that doesn't clearly say exactly what it is about. I completely agree that it may not have been a great topic, but we looked at it. I really fail to see the reason to flame on it. It only takes a second to hit the backspace key if it is something that doesn't interest you. I am not flaming you Jomarac5, I understand, but I just don't see it as Spam or a spam technique. As far as him saying about catching our attention, it did right? quote:Originally posted by Jomarac5: quote: Michael Whitt wrote:I am not sure I follow the SPAM logic here Jomarac5. The subject topic name has nothing to do with the topic. There is nothing in that topic name to indicate that this topic is about finding caches along a highway route. It's a deceptive ploy to get people who have no interest in the topic to read it. Woodsters opening line confirms it -- "Did it get your attention?". Read my 11:36 AM post -- it explains it there. *****
  7. I am not sure I follow the SPAM logic here Jomarac5. I certainly do not want to become SPAM bait, I am just trying to figure it out. Are you just refering to the subject being, "Calling All Techno Geeks?" because while it may not have been the best title for this subject, I have seen much worse. Please enlighten, thanks. 8. Can't we all just get along? Sorry could not resist. NeuroNomad & Sublonde's Page
  9. How about this one: "PC Load Letter, What the *$#@ is PC Load Letter?" Or "I don't like warriors. Too narrow-minded; no subtlety. And worese, they fight for hopeless causes.... Tell you what I do like, a Killer. A Dyed in the Wool killer. Cold-blooded, clean, methodical, and through. Now a real killer, when he picked up the ZF-1, would have immediately asked about the big red button on the bottom of the gun." or "A woman is the most fiendish instrument of torture ever devised to bedevil the days of man" or what about... "All Right, Vampire Killers... Let's Kill some F@#@ing vampires." or "That's not bad for a blind man... But that butter knife, it ain't gonna stop no bullet" and finally "You think you're so smart, man. You're just a bunch of scared kids." NeuroNomad & Sublonde's Page

  11. Personally when I get stumped I want a good set of hints because I don't want to feel like I just wasted my time. I like the way Leatherman said people are starting to list [nudge], [hint],
  12. I personally use a FujiFilm 2650 which I really love. You can see photos taken by it on my web site. Also if FujiFilm Finepix 1300 series is nice for low end.
  13. That is a great idea. I agree with Kanto that this is certainly possible via MapQuest, but I doubt that they have anything enabling you to this at this time. personally when I am doing something like that I use: Buxley's Geocaching Waypoint Maps.
  14. I have been on about 30 cache hunts so far and almost always I have a camera with me and take photos of me and my crew locating and looking at the cache. I always post the photos on my web site Michael Whitt dot Com, my question is this: Does anyone frown upon cachers that post spoiler info and pics on their site? I don't want to upset any cache owners, but I want to share the photos and maybe helped people that might be stumped. There have been times that I REALLY, REALLY, REALLY wanted to have spoiler photos to take a gander at for clues. The second part of this topic is in regards to web sites. Does anyone know if there is a web site out there that allows GeoCachers to search for other geocachers web sites? I realize that you can see cacher's web sites via profile views, but I am looking for a "directory" of cacher's web sites. Thanks, Michael

  16. Thanks. I figured I was just being impatient, but just wanted to be sure. These are the first caches I placed so I wanted to do it right. Thanks Cachew Nut. Michael
  17. I entered four new GeoCaches on Friday and they haven't shown up yet. I understand that it takes a day or so for them to show up. Is there anyway to verify that they are pending. I am starting to worry that I didn't enter them correctly. Thanks...
  18. When is the next meeting for the Middle Tennessee GeoCaching going to occur? Thanks.
  19. Well we ended up finding 6 caches all Monday afternoon. We have updated our site Michael and Kim's Pagewith photos of our finds. We are hooked big time now!!!!
  20. My wife Kim, my niece Alyssa and I started Geocaching for the first time yesterday with our new Garmin E-Trex Legend. We got close to Deja Vu Ya'll and Along The Bellevue Greenway but didn't find either. I am pretty sure we where within 20 feet from both. We had a blast though. After work today I am going to see if they want to go and try to find these again. I live in White Bluff so I am also considering trying to find Eye-40 cache as well today. We are new and still getting used to using our GPS, but we really loved it even though we didn't find anything yet. Thanks for everyone in the area setting out caches. Michael www.michaelwhitt.com
  21. I hope that the State of Tennessee continues to allow Geocaching. I just learned about the hobby yesterday and both me and my wife are excited to learn more about it.
