  1. I'm proud to have more cache finds than posts. (Barely)
  2. What will you do when you get more than 10 caches? Or do lizards have more fingers?
  3. rusty_tlc - Reno NV USA (No it's not near Las Vegas.) I heard that they are gong to move Reno next to Las Vegas to cut down on the confusion of the geographically challenged.
  4. Sorry to be dense. My excuse is that I am halfway through a shift that started at 6:00 a.m. Is this a joke or is this really something you have to have permission for?
  5. Is this another freudian slip/typo?
  6. When another cacher found one of my signature items and said in the log that they had been looking for one. Or when one of my signature items was included in the original contents of a cache that was not placed by me or my son.
  7. Oops Sorry for the misinterpretation. I would put them on your pack if you can or maybe a nice t-shirt if it is to hot for a jacket. Or, just a spontanious thought here maybe there should be a geocaching sash sort of like a BSA merit badge sash for stuff like this.
  8. My wife has a Bernina Embroidery Sewing machine that i use to make my patches. Unfortunately you will not want to buy this just for geocaching patches unless you have a lot more disposable income than I do. My wife already had the machine when I decided I wanted to make the patches.
  9. I have done the reverse. When I hit my 100th cache I left a specialized signature patch to commemorate the event. I am approaching 200 and I will probably do the same thing then. I thought of hosting an event like some others have but we have such high powered cachers around here that 200 is nice but not remarkable. On the other hand (i think out loud while I type) most cachers around here love an event and even the high number cachers will turn out to celebrate anyone's milestone, even if it is one they passed themselves long ago. Maybe I will host an event. Now I just need to check and see when I'm going to hit 200.
  10. I've got to ask. Is that really a FTF prize or are you just trying to make people jealous.
  11. Depending on where you are and what the cellphone service is like a cell phone can replace a lot of your overnight gear on short hikes by making sure you don't ever have to stay overnight. I know you have to be careful about relying to much on technology to save you but sometimes you just need to think about the probabilities and make a decision based on that. Also if possible always hike with another able bodied person that can either pack you out or go for help. Letting a family member or friend back in civilization know where you are going and when you will be back can also be a great tool that doesn't add any weight to your pack.
  12. Oh but that's the beauty of the law. We are all subject to it and ignorance is no excuse. That means that though we are barred from practicing it, we are obligated to try and understand it. So is helping someone else understand the quagmire practicing? Technically, yes, explaining the law to someone is practicing. Will the Bar come after you? Probably not unless you charge money or do it a LOT. But it is practicing law.
  13. I have never relied on the star to get me to the exact coordinates but I think it is fairly accurate.
  14. I think we already have a rule that covers this and it is "Trade fairly." Now I suppose that maybe these people just left these items and didn't trade, but I doubt it. Someone who leaves actual garbage in a cache will not be stopped by a new rule.
  15. You can also search for caches from a particular point. Just put in the proposed cache location in the search area and it will tell you how far away the nearest caches are.
  16. If you posted a note does that mean that you have the travel bug number? If so I think you could grab them and put them into one of the various TB graveyards that exist. If not I don't think there is anything you can do except keep trying to contact the owners and trying to get them to remove the bugs. Good Luck
  17. Hi, I figure I'm probably due a little more beating, and it'll probably do some people some good to vent at the dumb newbie (it doesn't hurt me any). Thanks for the advice though, I'll probably shut it down in a day or so, after the people involved have had a chance to see me eat a little crow. bye, NFA In my opinion NFA, you are a class act. It would be easy to just slink away but you even are allowing others the oppourtunity to "beat you some more" On the other hand what is happening is you are getting lots of praise. Pretty crafty
  18. Are fingers a pointy object? I guess it might depend on whose fingers you look at.
  19. I dare you to try and get that approved! I am not an approver but I think as long as there is no alcohol in the cache it should be approved.
  20. They have already been named moving caches and they are no longer allowed with the exception of a few that are grandfathered in. Sorry.
  21. I hear you. I was going to do a bunch of winter caching but after a game of raquetball with my son I ended up having knee surgery instead. The doctor says I am good to go, however, so as soon as it stops raining (Utah being in the 5th or 6th year of a drought it shouldn't take long.) I'm going to go out and find some more caches. Actually I did get out last week but only for one or two. Time to plan a big caching Saturday with my brother and our sons. (Our daughters and wives are always invited they just have no interest. Didn't want anyone to think we were sexist or anything )
  22. If you want to invest in the MapSource software put out by Garmin you can download maps as well as points of interest into your Legend and then use it to find them once you are there. I have mainly used the points of interest to find hotels, stores and restaurants while I am traveling so I don't know how well it works with tourist spots but I think it lists all sorts of things. I know it has Disneyland in it's system.
  23. I understand what you are saying. I am often disappointed in the contents of a cache but I always hope for something great. I always leave my signature patch even if there is nothing to trade for it. And I will sometimes take something that I am less than thrilled with as a momento of the experience. I try to leave more than I took and upgrade the cache a little but I dojn't think this is a requirement. My only pet peeve is those that sign the online log TNLN and don't give me their story about the cache. That is what I really value more than anything else.
  24. In the top right hand corner of the cache page is a blue button that says either login to log your visit, or if you are already logged in then it says log your visit. Click on that button, fill in the form that comes up, and you are on your way. Welcome to this wonderful world of cache hunting.
