  1. Excellent photos but I will echo the view above that a 'spot the cache' in each picture would be better than just a collection of 'Wonderful Scenery'. Could we have the Groundspeak 'Frog Collection' marking out important dates, etc. along with a selection of memorable avatars. (I think Renegade's and BrianSnats appear in my sleep !!) Andy P.S. Oh yes.... and Hydeeeeeee should be there as well !
  2. We are new to the game but have seen 2 caches which were visible due to not being hidden well enough by previous visitors. I think more damage will happen to caches due to our own negligence than by malicious use of GC.Com which (and I applaud the philosophy) should be free to use if required. Just my tuppence-worth Andy
  3. Can we log a 'find' if we work out your alter-ego ? Good luck in the job. Has Groundspeak issued your 'admin-bricks' yet ??? Andy
  4. Doh !! Thanks Nobby.... I was copying the file directly to the data directory on the PDA and expecting MM to pick it up !! Congrats on your ton BTW. Andy
  5. Mrs Cuthbert was rather lenient on me when the postman rang to get the delivery signed last Thursday. What a fantastic bit of software although I am restricted to the South for the moment until I pay off the credit card ! Now for the question...... I can overlay the GC:UK cache locations onto the desktop but the documentation is a bit sketchy when it comes to doing a similar thing on the PDA. Can anyone help me on this ? Andy
  6. We had a similar dilemma with our microcache. We planted it, went home and then the children in us said that it wasn't fun without the treasure. It doesn't matter what is in the box as it is interesting and a surprise to see what is there. On an amusing note, Wiltshire seems to have been hit with the 'Plague of the blue floral drinks-coasters' which we are now as avidly searching for as the T&J bears. Is there a registry of collectable sig items ?
  7. Many thanks David. Have re-downloaded the commercial version and it now imports a full 500-entry .GPX file in about 20 seconds. Excellent. can't wait to get it out in the field later today and put it to practical use. Well done chap ! Andy
  8. Been using the same iPAQ for 2 and a half years now with no problems. Make sure you get a car charger though for caching as the battery life with a GPS sleeve is only around 90 mins with one this old ! Andy
  9. Are altitude settings included within the data downloaded from the GC.com website and do these make much of a difference ?? I notice the etrex lists the altitude on the waypoint screen but I could not find any technical data on this in the manual. Andy
  10. quote:Originally posted by Zoboomafoo:Paul Ag's gag (I'm a poet) reminds of a book I heard about some years back now. A guy would write these long letters to corporations, movie stars, etc, asking them the most ridiculous things. I can't remember the title or author at the moment, but the book was a riot. Don't know whether this is the same one but we had a guy over here called Henry Root who wrote to royalty, politicians, film stars, etc. and always enclosed a one pound note for their troubles. The book was called 'The Henry Root Letters' and, from what I remember, was hilarious Andy
  11. I may just have to stop at 'The George', Lacock on the way home. It's a shame that you haven't got your secret cache running yet..... I could always leave you a can ! Andy P.S. Dawn, if you're reading this, I am delayed at Sainsbury's
  12. If you get lost and venture west into Wiltshire we can help. The last time we went to Hampshire for the HCC event, we got lost ! (Hence laughing when Omally wanted us to help out with leading folks into strange woods with our iPAQ GPS road-planning software that was not up to the job for caching !!) Have a good Cachiversary ! If you do venture into the mysterious world of Wiltshire, we do have a fine local brewery in Devizes ! Andy
  13. quote:...although your question has now given me a devilish idea of using a key as a tb and putting a lock on an ammo box! How about two keys and two boxes with no pointers as to which pair up ? (He adds devlishly) Andy
  14. Is this software any good? I notice that we are on the boundary between regions 1 and 2 for the aerial photography so it would be quite an initial expense. I have had a look at the demo but it didn't allow GPS functions to work Andy
  15. Hmmm... we did this 'getting to within 100 yards of the cache' at the weekend followed by a lot more walking ! I would be interested to hear how long it took people to find caches though so we could judge whether we need food supplies, etc. Andy
  16. Would you impose a time limit on this so that the bug was not held for silly periods of time ? I thinks its a great idea but probably within county boundaries for us at the moment. Nice one ! Andy and Dawn (Where did all this wine come from ?)
  17. Hehe.... many thanks for this....it's great ! Andy
  18. quote:The physicist working on the project, Professor Peter Beton, said: "This is analogous in the everyday world to emptying a pile of bricks on to the ground which then, instead of forming an unstructured heap, spontaneously arrange themselves into an ordered structure, for example, a wall or block paving." And so, the GAGB came into existance.... I'm out trying to find my own microcache !!! Andy
  19. Did you suggest 'flowing game of football' with the thoughts of Watford in mind ??? Jokes aside, I agree with a corrective cattle-prod rather than an electric fence as per #2 above. Andy
  20. Short of going into each cache in turn, is there an easy way to filter on the cache size ?? I have searched the FAQ but cannot find info on this in either standard searches or the PDA customizable stuff. I am particularly interested in tracking down more micros. Andy
  21. Deed done. Will get Mrs Cuthbert to have a look at this thread later. Andy
  22. From a placing point of view a DNF would prompt a re-check of the cache especially if the general location seemed correct from the comments. From a finders POV, we like an accurate record of what we get up to out there Just our £17.50's worth. Andy and Dawn (Where did all this wine come from ?)
  23. I am running XP and have found that if you disconnect any USB devices, do a hard reset, then EasyGPS talks to the Garmin just fine. It's a bit of a faff but I only do this once a fortnight. Andy
  24. quote:Originally posted by Bull Moose:I always wonder if Jeremy's picture is supposed to be a tribute to the Bruce Campbell character on Hercules/Xena. Why do any of us have the avatar that we have ? We are absent minded, get lost on the way to a cache and are always checking off directions with each other..... hence our childhood 'professor', Cuthbert Calculus from the TinTin books. What's your story ?....... (and yours Jeremy?) Andy and Dawn (Where did all this wine come from ?)
