  1. Last CITO we did we picked up a few plastic bottle, candy wrappers and old cans...That is the worst I found! Maybe it will get worse the more I cache but hopefully you all have been there before me, finding a turd is not pleasent at all. Finding the other thing mentioned has to be worse! Geo-Ninjas
  2. When we go caching we are at least (5) of us (including kids). Strength in numbers but if my kids would ever go out alone I would send our family dog with them. Friendly as ever but protective of my family. Rather be safe then sorry. Also as someone else mentioned, let someone else know the area your going to be in or leave a note on the table. In case of a medical problem in the field, at least there is a base point to where to start looking. Geo-Ninjas
  3. Being the Geo-Ninjas our body is a weapon. If my daugher and her shrieking voice doesn't scare off any animals in a 3 mile radius i do not think anything would. We actually Cache in very familar areas to us because we are new to it. I have had no reason to carry a firearm and to this date do not believe I would cache in areas that would need me to carry a weapon. Overall I believe the right to defend yourself. But for a lot of people carrying a loaded firearm might put yourself in more danger than good if you do not know how to use it. It is a great question. I would go to any length to protect my family, keep them safe and healthy. So where we go we do not need that kind of protection and if the time comes for serious caching...I will re-think it.
  4. We have a Garmin Etrax as well, the basic model. Today we found (2) caches and the accuracy was just horrible, we are on top of the cache and it was reading 51ft away with accuracy within 20ft. It got us to the general area but we did a little searching from there. Geo-Ninjas
  5. We found the cache before, but last review on the website says its missing by the last bunch of visitors. I will contact the owners and let them know. Thank you for the input.
  6. What is the rule about replacing someone elses Cache if it has been lost or Muggled? Geo-Ninjas
  7. I little digging into the site and I found this... This site: http://gpsinformation.net/ has helpful information on different consumer GPS Units. Hope it helps Geo-Ninja
  8. I am a NOOB and never even thought of using Google maps. We print off the general location and head caching from there. It is a Global system so I guess its using a huge GPS rather than the hand held one. To each his own! Geo-Ninjas
  9. We actually found little NINJA's that we leave in the cache. Now the last cache we visited this weekend had some really creative calling cards. Some were made on home printers and some were really really cool. I am not sure if you are supposed to take them or not. But my son found a robot which to a 4 year old is the COOLEST thing on the face of the earth. We do visit the dollar store and also surf the net. Oriental trading company sells a lot of bulk trinkets that are Geocaching perfect in my mind. Happy hunting... Geo-Ninjas
  10. Batesie, We are in the same boat. I have exactly the same GPS and am looking for something with a port I can connect to my computer. Good luck and I am watching this post for any info that comes in. Geo-Ninjas
  11. We just started outselves and what a great way to get out and spend time with the family. I am just figuring out some of the lingo like "Muggles, etc" but our whole family loves it. I have a E-Trex right now, I dont like manually imputing the coords and am looking to upgrade to something I can connect to my computer. Geo-Ninjas
  12. We have the same situation,,,most of the places we go there is not trash laying about, so that is a great thing. Even when we are not caching we do our part in a little pick up. One or two items goes a long way.
  13. A quick intro...Had a GPS for hunting when my lovely wife saw a Geocaching spot on the news. We logged in the site and tracked down a few local caches. It is a fun family event we do to bring all of us together. Even had my parents in this week hunting caches in the Northern woods of Wisconsin. We call ourselves the GEO-NINJA's , the name is derived from my youngest daughters love for Ninja's at the time (Now it happens to be boys) But as a family of 6 it gives us all a way to escape the TV and internet and enjoy the weather. We have 4 caches registered and from them I posted 4 comments. There are 2 more that we did not post for some reason or anthoer but I will not become a lurker in the Geocaching world...at least I hope not Geo-Ninjas
