  1. Richard...I can tell you have never been to Branson. It doesn't matter that you have no money you and your family will have PLENTY to do. See, here is what will happen (as often as you like), people will approach you and your wife and ask you to come tour a time share, 90 minute, no obligation tour will get you free tickets to nearly everything for your entire family....but if you don't want to do the timesare tours, there are plenty of geocaches to be found there. I personally have only done a few there and I am not sure what you call family friendly. I think all are family friendly in Branson.
  2. I am trying to find out how to tell if the coordinates of where I am placing a new cache is too close to an existing cache. Twice I have returned home only to have to go pick up the cache and move it to a new location. I knew there was an existing one in the area but I did not know it was less than .10 mile. Is there a way I can do the math?
  3. I know WHY people dip TBs and such, its just that I don't GET IT! I personally do not see any real benefit derived from doing so. Nonetheless, this is a sport where anything is possible and I do not chide my fellow cachers if they choose to "dip" TBs. If they get some enjoyment out if doing so, more power to them. I just don't see any benefit or challenge for me to do the same. Each to their own in how they play the game. I am with ya! I kinda don't get it because what does it really matter? I suppose to folks like this it is absolutely a numbers game. Me, I don't care, I do it because I enjoy it, I don't care how many caches I have or how many I have found, or how far I have traveled while doing so. I just enjoy it. It is kind of like counting your steps as you walk around the track 3 miles...lol My husband does that....lol So I guess to each his own. Enjoy!
  4. I live about 20 miles from there but I work in Springfield. I LOVE it. However if I had to pick one to tell you to check out....it would be in Lebanon which is about 50 miles east of Springfield...called Jolly Green Giant!!!! LOL you gotta see it to believe it. What type of caches do you like? I guess it depends on that as to which one I would really reccomend. What will you be doing when you get to Springfield? Fair questions mrmaness, about the type of caches I like. I am pretty much a straightforward cacher, don't generally have a lot of time for multis or puzzles, especially on this trip. So caches that take me to an interesting or iconic area or just plain creative ones would fit that bill. If I do come to Springfield, it will be because of temporary replacement assignment due to a work stoppage at AT&T. Hopefully, it will not come occur, but if it does, I want to be sure I have all my ducks in a row....geocaching of course being one of those ducks. Thanks for the suggestion on the green giant, don't know if I will have the time to make it that far out of town. Had plotted possibly hitting the neighboring states, but that doesn't look too feasible. So will just be happy to hit as many as I can in and around town. Thanks again for the suggestion, would like to check it out if I get the chance. Okay, I am with you...I too am a traditional cacher...I don't care for the puzzles or multi's...so with that being said....everytime I go caching I always try to think about my favorite cache of the day....whether it be the location, the container, the contents, etc...this one really sticks in my mind so I would say check it out...Froghead GC1F0PP and you might want to see Pythian Castle GCVWC0...there are soooooo many in this area that you could spend days getting them. Anyway I hope you enjoy your stay here. Now if you like caches that "make you think" definately check out any from SterlingConnie....ARRRRRRGGGGG He frustrates me....I have actually had my hands on the "micros" and did not realize it!!!!! Drives me crazy, so not so much for me but alot of people around here love them.

  6. If you go to the home page, on the left side of the screen at the bottom you will see a tab that says resources....click there then scroll down to tools and downloads....the select to geocaching software...select one of the windows applications, I use easy gps or gsak...start there.
  7. This is funny now, but at the time it scared the crap out of me and my daughter. We were looking for our cache and my coords were spot on. I looked at the hint and I knew we were in the right area. We were new to caching and VERY inexperienced in caches. There was a rock near a hole that seemed to be out of place so my daughter picked it up. When she turned it over there was this weird dog tag looking thing glued to it???? I told her to put it down but she was insistant and kept messing with it, well about that time, my cell phone (which was on vibrate) went off and we thought it was that dog tag thing...lol Come to find out after we went back for the 4th time that was the cache, we just needed to turn the tag and it unscrewed.
  8. How long have you had it and why are you selling it?
  9. When you load a pocket query how do you get the full descriptions to download to a colorado 300?
  10. When you load a pocket query to gsak and then download them to garmin colorado 300 how can you see full description and not just the name?
  11. Okay...got it...I did not see it at first but I got it turned on.
  12. Okay thanks for the help...but can you dumb it down a bit? What do you mean GPSr? My garmin legend gps? Can we do this one step at a time? Sorry but like I said...dumb it down for me...
  13. Okay my dear old geocaching pro's...I need your knowledge and experience for this one. Here goes; I have a day of geocaching planned, I know what caches I want to find, I have them downloaded to gsak as well as google earth. First question; is there a way I can see the names of the caches and not just the GC#? Second question; I would like to start at my home coords. and create a route to take to each cache so I do not spend alot of time back tracking, is this possible? And if it is can I print off the turn by turns or what is the best way to do this? Help me out here please.....
  14. Thank you! At least now I don't feel like an insane person on this forum.
  15. As soon as I plug it into my computer it shows Garmin on the GPS and at the bottom it shows a connection and that is it. I cant do anything with it...when I unplug it the unit shuts off. Also how do I get my easy gps software on my computer to recognize the new unit and not my old one????
  16. That is a great idea but I think my gripe is that I paid 15 bucks for a coin and someone wants to TAKE it, not log it and leave me an ink pen lid or a barbie doll head...all I am saying is TRADE even.
  17. I'm a poor little idiot who can't afford to do anything but wander around the mountains, enjoying the scenery. I don't usually trade "swag", but I'll be more than happy to move your bug or coin around. I sure hope that you don't get your wish and price me out of the sport. In all seriousness, last Sunday, some local geocachers discovered a small trail leading up to a local geological feature that I have been trying to get to for over 35 years. This morning, I found their cache, which had a few small trinkets and logbook. I guess this would be a dud in your book, but I found myself in a spot that I have been trying to get to since my childhood. Sometimes, the treasure isn't in the box. Chances are you are not the person leaving "trash" in my cache either.
  18. Whatever!!! I do love this sport and for me it is not about the "treasures" as much as the hunt to find them. I just don't understand why people don't want to keep the caches in better shape as far a content. I guess I will just stop caring aobut what I leave...so if you put a $15 geo coin in I will take it and leave an ink pen lid. My point is, if you want to leave an ink pen lid then take the barbie doll head...those of us who want to trade even then can. Why do I want to leave my really cool coins and bugs and swag that I am never going to get back for a FREAKIN' ink pen lid....I see it must be the mentality of most cachers. Not me, but like I said...Whatever.
  19. I am soooooo ARRRRGGGG!!!!! I set out today for a great day of caching. I hadn't been in awhile so I was more than ready. Now I don't spend alot of money on this hobby but I spend my share. I definately believe in trading up or even. OMG...you can not imagine the "crap" that was in these caches. Like a head off of a Barbie, a ink pen LID, a movie ticket STUB!!!! I mean it is ridiculous! I would like to see all caches become only visible to premium members and if they raised the membership fee high enough to weed out the idiots who obviously can't afford to trade even! I hope all of you trade even and up...not junk and if you do...shame on you! I am just venting because I was soooo disappointed in all of the caches today!
  20. What does that software cost?
  21. When I try to do that it says this feature is only available to subscribers of Google Earth Plus....do I have to subscribe somewhere. I thought this was a "free" application.
  22. I am planning a day of caching and I don't want to spend alot of time "backtracking". Is there a way I can create a "route" or a path to follow to make sure I don't make unneeded turns or stops along the way. Any help will be great.
