  1. I see what you mean..... as far as I can see everything has moved down !!! Before you could see most things in the visable part of the screen, now you have to scroll down ! Mostly screen revamps are an improvement.... not this time I think ! Someone must be bored !
  2. Planning... Planning.... Planning I have now held three event caches, one last weekend a car treasure hunt followed by pub meal and my yearly North Yorkshire meet..... This years NY Meet had well over 100 people in attendance..... it can be done..... If you need any tips and advice I think I am qualified to give it ! Someone has already said it... children and dogs.... they come to cache meets also..... everyone has different thoughts on cache events and to try to cope with everyone is hard...... I learn hopefully not by mistakes.... but what can be done better next time...... I would say that for every hour you are planning to be at the cache event on the day, I normally spend 4 hours planning...... After all.... its hard work, especially where large numbers are concerned.... but enjoyable when things come right.... So Plan Plan Plan and try to look for something different, and above all location !
  3. Not quite caught, but I was wandering around on a top of a hill in my suit looking for a place to pop a cache box and obviously looking suspicious The people are now known as The Dipsticks and have done loads of caches !
  4. Brilll Thanks Stuey... thats the one ! Cant live without it ! HH
  5. Thanks for that....... however thats the US version...... The UK version has a lot more options e.g. search by for cache by Lat/Long, cacher, keyword etc etc
  6. Like a fool I have just deleted the bookmark from my mobile that allows me to search for caches and log them from my mobile..... There used to be a page on the GUK site that gave the instructions, but I can't find it in the new re-vamped site Can anyone help...... please !
  7. As things seem to be slow, I have organised a last minute cache event near Harrogate on 8th October .... Car treasure hunt and meal (optional) Hopefully anyone that would like to come... Hunt & Munch
  8. I have been caching via paper for a while now and wanted to go paperless. So I bought a small Pocket PC with memory map for my area. Yesterday I went out and grabbed 9 caches without any paper !!! Tom Tom Navigator gets me to the closest parking spot, then swap to memory map (PC has built in GPS) so its shows my current position. I can then park and head down the relevent path, knowing exactly where I am. When I get closer to the cache I switch to GPXsonar, which has full details of the cache... descriptions, clues, last logs, TB's ! There is even a note section which I complete at the cache, reminding me of date, time and what I have swapped. Brilliant ! Never looked back ! If you need details of what I bought email me.
  9. Just a daft question.... why could this not be incorporated into the main geocaching site ? It just seems to me, that I have now two sites to keep an eye on, so spending twice as long on "admin" while all I want to to is get out and geocache ?
  10. How as a premium member, do I get the system to register to send me an email when new caches appear ?
  11. I have just been informed by two major high street banks that has developed from their HR department, that although the original intention was supurb, this idea of entering ICE in your mobile phone could case problems. Aparantly a large number of people have been receiving text's or worst still email based 'virus's' into the mobile, which look on address books for common threads e.g. the word ICE ! If this is found the 'virus' then starts sending messages from your mobile in either text or email based forms, therefore costing individuals large call rates ! HSBC and NATwest have nationally advised all their staff to delete ICE out of their phones ! I thought I would let the geocaching community know as this could affect them ! Please note all I am doing is passing on what I have been informed, and I do not know if the above is true or not ! Pity it was a supurb idea ! Harrogate Hunters
  12. For those in the north, how about organising our own Caching Olympics..... Watch the website in another 7 years and I might get round to organising an event !
  13. How do you define 'series' ? I have three sets of 'series' of normal caches, that you collect clues in order to find the final 'multi-cache' ? Although I have not put in the title 'series' I assume this also is the same as what you are refering to.... There must be lots of other 'series' caches in the country like this.... I can think of many just around here.
  14. The race is now underway with a couple of TB's now abroad already..... Joint leaders with 9 points at this early stage are DS8300 and KevW Now there are a couple of race TB's that have not been activated, I have sent emails to those concerned today, come on chaps.... Now I also have an un-activated TB picked up by someone called 'Kalem' or 'Kaler' there does not seem to be a 'find' at the Harrogate Meet.... Does anyone know this person, can they give me a profile link ? IS IT YOU ? Full results on My Webpage
  15. Ok.... I am now seriously thinking about paperless caching.... So I have done the GSAK thing, and downloaded the caches @ 500 a time, and looked into Palm IIIxe, but I can not get hold of one, as they have been replaced Can anyone help ? Fingertech tell me that they have now been replaced with new colour screen models..... so which one do I purchase ?
  16. In a couple of weeks I am having my jollies and starting at Bibao region (a couple of weeks) then moving back over the Pynanees and the long drive back through France to Calais. Anyone been caching in that part of Spain ? Any suggesions of caches to head for or caches to avoid... I see there are a few around the area.
  17. And did it by beating me to a FTF ! Well done
  18. Why not invite them to attend the cache with you there, and 'help' them find it again !
  19. Not for much longer. I'm coming out of retirement after my next Texas trip. - I didn't know Slytherin was related to Seasider ! LOL !
  20. And there are off..... #19 is into an early start with 1 point !
  21. I always wanted STR10E as my surname is Stride, but DVLC would not release it, despite never been released. So in the end RS 04 TAX, which as most of you know I am an accountant !
  22. Once activated can all cachers please drop me an email so I can link my web page to your TB. I have only had 3 out of 36 at present ! Have a good race and watch the website so see how you are doing... See you in a years time.
  23. Thanks for all those attended... Great day. I think we had in the region of 70-90 people in attendance. Well done to Slytherin for winning the 2004 Travel Bug Race with a very impressive 32,390 miles achieved in one year ! Good luck to all 36 competitors in the 2005 Travel Bug race. If there are any more people who attended who did not pick up a travel bug for the race, please contact me. I still have a couple left. Sorry the race is only open to attendees at the meet ! Well done to The Biffa's who scored an impressive 22 out of 30 in the quiz, hope the prize did not melt on the way home due to the heat ! Full report and pictures on my Webpage along with race positions..... (everyone at Nil points at present) but keep watching. Big thanks to Rutson who sorted out the pictures on my website this morning, and if anyone has any more, please let me have them so I can add them to the page. Can all Cachers please email me once their race travel bugs have been activated. See you on 17th June 2006... put it in the diary now.... its going to be bigger, better, more to do.... watch this space..
