  1. The DeLorme BT-20 is still for sale. Will accept $35 + shipping (it's light, shouldn't cost much). It's a great unit for a PDA (or other Bluetooth device running map software). Also can be used with a laptop as well (though I believe it would run better using Bluetooth rather than USB). If interested, please send me a message through geocaching.com. Thanks!!
  2. The Garmin e-Trex has been sold, the DeLorme BT-20 (Bluetooth GPS receiver) is still for sale.
  3. Hello! I have used a basic Garmin e-Trex H for geocaching and a DeLorme Bluetooth GPS receiver (BT-20) for street navigation. I didn't want to deal with two devices, so I am replacing both with a new handheld GPS (DeLorme's PN-40) that can do both. I bought the Garmin e-Trex H (high-sensitivity) in October 2007 and used it alot during October - November. This year, I haven't been able to cache as much until now, so it was much less used this year. I have the cable with it. I'd like to sell it for $65 total (that would be with shipping). I bought the DeLorme BT-20 directly from DeLorme in July 2007 and have used it moderately. It's a Bluetooth / USB GPSr that you use with a compatible device, such as cell phone, PDA, or laptop running mapping software. I used mine with a Palm TX running Street Atlas handheld version. It works well (that is, as far as its Bluetooth connection as well as satellite reception), but I didn't like the loss of use of my Palm when it was being used as a GPS and I quickly realized that I didn't want to be geocaching with the Palm (that's why I later bought the e-Trex)! I have the car charger and two rechargeable batteries for it. I'd like to sell it for $50, including shipping.
  4. Thanks! We're doing pretty well...some DNF's, but that's OK...we'll either get back and try again or just enjoy having been to a cool new place! Anything that helps keep me away from housework, I'm all for it!
  5. Traveling Route 66 is really fun - you will have a great time! If you aren't familiar with the routing of 66, pick up a copy of the EZ66 Guide by Jerry McClanahan - it's the best book on 66 there is. Though, I noticed more and more maps are showing "Historic 66" or "Old Route 66", etc....just not as much as the 66 researchers have dove in and found all the various alignments. Have a great time!
  6. Thanks! Good luck to you - we're sure having fun!
  7. Well, it's only 400 square feet...true to it's name, it's little and easy to miss. If you ever get back there, it's just north of Mystic Seaport, on the same side of the road (by the river).
  8. Good afternoon! I'd like to say hello to everyone! I'm a newbie, introduced to the game by ATMS. My husband, Pat (aka Road Maven) and I love road trips (not only Route 66 as my name suggests, but all two lane highways, country roads, etc...). We love seeing the US, whether big cities, small towns or any points in between. We have day jobs, but we also are occasional writers for AMERICAN ROAD Magazine. I also do some photography for them, and we moderate their forum as well. So, I told my husband about geocaching and he too enjoys the new addiction - err...game as well! It's a perfect way to make our road trips **even more** fun! We spent both days this weekend geocaching! We can already see it will bring us to so many more new places we haven't been, or might not even think about going to. We already use mapping software to plot routes, trace old roads, etc. One of our interests is to find old auto trails/routes and trace them along modern-day roads. In July, we did this for an old Indiana auto trail called the "Ben Hur Route" for a photo essay for the magazine. I was getting my feet wet as a staff photographer, taking some additional photos to supplement those of the editor. So this week, I took my GPX file of the auto trail route and found caches along it....we can already see that we'll really use the "caches along a route" feature extensively! We're having such a great time at this! Jennifer P.S. If anyone's interested, there is an excerpt from the Ben Hur article available here: American Road sample issue I also wrote the "Kitchen Little" article. If you're ever in Mystic, Connecticut, there's not a better breakfast to be had! (These articles will only be posted until the next issue comes out)
  9. Thanks for the replies! I see on Amazon that there is both the eTrex and eTrex H - thanks for the clarification... *whew* For a mere $7 more, it's a no-brainer to have the unit with the better signal. For my purpose, this unit ought to do the trick. In the car, I'll use my Palm TX with SA2008 maps and Earthmate GPS to get me to the basic cache location. Once we're out of the car and starting the hunt on foot, I'd then use this unit. It seems rugged enough to take the abuse my Palm can't! LOL Jennifer
  10. Good morning! I just signed up a couple of weeks ago, and am having a great time! I dove right in and got a premium membership. My husband is also catching the geocaching fever and he started his own account. I saw elsewhere on the forums a procedure where a non-Premium member can log a premium-only find, but I was wondering about the additional functionality (pocket queries, particularly). Does he also need a separate premium membership, or can we somehow have two user names under one Premium membership? Or should he just log in with my username if he wants to do pocket queries, etc.? Thank you! Jennifer <Quick edit for clarification...>
  11. Good morning! I am looking for a cheap GPS unit without maps. The reason being, that in my car, I use a Palm TX running the handheld Street Atlas 2008, and I have a Bluetooth Earthmate BT-20 GPS for navigation. I can use it for geocaching perfectly, and it's got great functionality to show street level detail, routes, caches along a route, waypoints, tracking - everything. However (and there's always a however)...despite the excellent functionality, I am not keen on bringing my Palm as I make my way to the cache from the car. I really don't want to drop my Palm TX, so I'm wondering which cheapie unit might be good for just entering a waypoint and following the coordinates? I was thinking of this unit: Garmin eTrex Handheld The image at the top is the correct one - it's only got a grayscale screen and no maps...the image toward the bottom is incorrect. Sadly, a bunch of people bought it, thinking it had maps and advanced functionality! I know that this unit is bare bones, and that's what I want. But I'm curious if there are any other bare bones models that just show coords and track to a waypoint. Hopefully, less than $100. Thanks! Jennifer
