  1. I have 3.60/3.00, and it started doing this a month ago, probably right after the upgrade. I had reflashed the Vers 3.60 firmware couple weeks ago or so. Turned it on this morning now that I just got home from work, and it is working ok, but this problem is totaly random. I did not do a full reset of the GPS yet.
  2. With the latest firmware I had installed on the Map60CSx, the GPS has started to show improper Dates, and Times upon startup. If the GPS has been off for an hour or more, it is likely to revert back to early 2007, well before it was manufactured, wich was in June, but I had bought it in Sept 2007. When I turn on the unit, it will show March or April 2007, at about 8pm(20:00). The odd thing of it, is that today at noon, I turned it on, and it said something like march 2007, exactly 20:00, then I shut it off, then back on, then it had a different date, and showed just minutes before 20:00, like 19:57 (7:57pm). I may have to revert back to the previous firmware version, due to these troubles that are also messing up my Tracklogs. The problem with the firmware, is that if the date is wrong, like thinking it was back in early 2007 again, the GPS takes forever to get a LOCK on the sats, even if I standstill for a minute, then start driving, it will not find a LOCK, until it corrects the Date, and the Time, then I see the Accuracy count down from hundreds of feet, down to normal Accuracy. This has been an excellent GPS, until the last update, but has turned quite buggy from the time I last updated it. I reflashed the same latest firmware, and it was ok for awhile, but got buggy again. Any of you had any problems of this nature? This is very odd stuff.
  3. Going to be getting the 400t, after being without a working colorado for some weeks now, and one of the big things with the Colorado, is the built-in screen capture capability,so that I can press the right soft key whenever I need to, like after a hike, drive, or whatever, I would do a screen capture of the trip screen and maybe the map screen. Another thing about being able to capture lots of screens, is that I can also use a GIF animator program, and then be able to play back the sequence of screen shots. I had the 400t first in early Feb, then that had clock problems, then I got the 300 late Feb, and it was a nightmare, but now I am going to get the 400t.
  4. This Venture Hc is pretty cheap on Amazon.com. 24meg mem and you could put maps on it in the future, like topos
  5. From all the problems on the forums, I suspect that your GPS chipset software is corrupted, or the regular firmware in your Legend HCx. https://buy.garmin.com/shop/store/downloads...45&pID=8701 In the link above are links to the webupdater and the firmware. Run the webupdater, and connect the GPS, and turn it on, then go into webupdater, and see if it sees the GPS, then reloads the firmware. Updating the GPS chipset is the last step of the webupdater, where it asks you if you want to check for additional updates. If the GPS does not respond to the webupdater then it needs to go back to be fixed.
  6. Two ways to see the Coordinates that I know of, is to make one of the large fields on the Trip Computer page show The Lat Long coords, and also to put the Satellite Page into the Page rotation, but you would have to go back to the list of caches, and reselect it. Sorry, I don't have a Colorado at this time, since I returned them.
  7. I used these > I never did use up the first set of lithiums yet.
  8. They both have their problems. The eTrex Vista, I had a problem with glue disolving, and the rubberband coming off. The Map60Cx, I had a problem with so much vibration using the Garmin mount, that the metal prongs pressing on the circuit board on the backside of the battery compartment, were no longer pressing against the circuitboard, so that GPS got wrecked, when I tried to bend the contacts back, the screw posts shattered when I tried opening it up. I believe that the Ram mount maybe better, but I would like to have a better cusion between the mount and the GPS.
  9. There is a lot of power packed in that little watch, but with a touch sensitive bazel, around the whole ring of the watch, it maybe troublesome to wear clothes over the top of the watch. Here are some YouTube videos: http://www.youtube.com/results?search_quer...mp;search_type= I like the idea of this watch, that you can wear this thing on rollercoasters, or whatever. The cheaper Forerunners could fly off your wrist while on a rollercoaster, but the 205 or 305 might be wearable when doing rough activities like coaster riding. I would probably get the Garmin 205: https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=142&pID=348 Righthand side of the webpage at the link above, lists all the forerunners.
  10. If Garmin were to sell alternate firmwares for the Colorado, what kind of features would you like to see? Garmin has come out with so many different GPS units, so I thought that Garmin should introduce different firmwares for the Colorado for a price. Like if they came out with a firmware for $50 that can turn the Colorado into a more robust Autorouter. Another idea is that Garmin could append the current Colorado firmwares, with add-ons to the firmware, for things like better autorouting, being able to convert tracks to trails pasted into the Maps on the Colorado. It seems like it would be a shame, if Garmin did not allow for purchased add-ons or whole alternate firmwares for a price, say if you wanted an add-on for better autorouting, you would pay garmin $25 for the upgrade, and any future firmware updates would be free for that configuration. In some ways it seems like the Colorado is stuck halfway between a 60CSx and a Nuvi, with some of the features of each, stripped out of it, so this is why I thought of the idea of alternate firmwares for a price, or is this a dumb idea?
  11. The black Garmin canvas case is what I've used for all my GPS's, and even the Colorados I did have, but will be getting a 400t and a new canvas case soon. The canvas case can secure to a belt, or even a backpack strap.
  12. Having had the 400t, and then bought the Topo 2008 DVD and the Co 300, I found the 400t a much better choice, and going to get that. I had alot of trouble with the 300 with too many shutoffs, messing up with a small section of Topo 2008 loaded, and the GPS would not connect to the PC, unless the SD card was removed, so I will go get a 400t when I'm good and ready to get it, like when the Gov will send me the economic stimulus payment. I had a backup of the 400t, but no backup of the 300, but the thought of using the file from the 400t on the 300, never occured to me, or I just did not have a card larger than 2GB.
  13. I had returned a 400t early Feb, and a 300 later in Feb, back to REI. My third attempt will be about the time of my birthday in late May, and by that time, hopefully I get a better unit, and it will be a 400t.
  14. It has been a long time since Garmin came out with Version 2.40 for the Colorados, I believe it was Feb 18. I am guessing that Garmin will come out with the Version 2.50 Monday the 30th. Pick a date you think they will release a new update, for the Colorados. And lets see who picks the closest date and wins. (no actual prizes).
  15. I ran into the same problem with my Co 300 that came from REI in Northville Michigan. I had to remove my SD card, so that it would stay on, when plugged into the PC. The Co 300 got so bad that I had to return it. It had started out it's life with occational shutoffs for no appearent reason.
  16. The 20 striped out tracks on the GPS have only 2 uses, and that is for map reference on the screen, and doing backtracking. The saved tracks on the 60CSx can be used to show trails on your map screen, but that requires somebody to have hiked the trails before, or to trace out trails from topo maps, but the 500 trackpoint limits cause me all kinds of problems, when I try filling up the 20 track memories with trails in SE Michigan. I have always let the GPS save the tracks as *.gpx files on the mem card.
  17. Sounds good, I guess I will try removing the card first, like I did with my Magellans, and do a reset all from the reset screen, when updating the 60CSx in the future.
  18. I had updated to Ver. 3.60 some time ago, and when I was using the 60CSx recently, it was taking forever to boot up even if it was off for an hour. When I got home, I noticed that the tracklogs started out saying Mar 31, 2005 each time I started up the GPS. Each time the GPS was turned on, there was always a 2 or 3 point tracklog at the start, before it recorded the main tracklog, and this little tracklog on each startup would say Mar 31 2005. I reflashed the firmware, and it seems to boot up ok, but time will tell, if it gets sick again. Don't know if the problem is with the coding of the firmware, or the hit and miss of Internet downloading.
  19. Looks like these Colorados will be distroyed when riding mountain bicycles on gravel, and other hard surfaces, like what happened to my poor Map60Cx. Edit: I wished Garmin hardwired the power supplies in their GPS units, this is a crappy way to reduce costs of manufacture.
  20. Another problem of Topo 2008, I found was that the mountain peeks all seem lower on the map, than in real life. I originally saw somebody post about this problem, shortly after Topo 2008 came on the market.
  21. Sounds pretty bad, and I have been without a Colorado GPS since Sunday. My 300 had the cronic shutoffs, since, just minutes after purchase, and later, when it was plugged into the USB port. I am afraid that the Colorado is almost as bad as the Tritons, but at least Garmin, is working on the problems. I may get a replacement 400t sometime, as things work out.
  22. In this picture, I see you used a white jpeg image as a background, so now the fonts are less readable, but since this unit does not have a Day/Night changing screen, I have to either use a black jpeg or a white jpeg. Also one other issue is the plastic film on your GPS, it will hurt the readability of the screen, but it does protect it, and cut glare. Edit: each of my error corrections seem to create a new error.
  23. My Colorado 300: I had just reflashed firmware verson 2.40 to the GPS, and checked to see if it had the latest Receiver chip software, then reformatted a 2 GB SD card to FAT32, then put 18.5 megs of TOPO 2008 on the mem card in the card reader of the Laptop here, then put it in the Co 300, then hooked it up to USB. The GPS booted up, flickered, then shut off. So it's a dead unit. My other returned 400t was not as bad as this one is, except for the clock issue. The clock issue, I think would be important, because if the GPS had a good almanac, and the current time in it, it would allow for faster bootup. I am so glad I never bought a second City Nav Disk for the Colorado, since it is on my 60CSx. The issue here also is that I have had trouble with the autorouting on the 60CSx, because of it's quirks, and small screen. Have had that GPS do weird routing between Detroit and Ann Arbor here, and the little screen did not help much. This was one of the reasons for me to go to the Colorado for Caching and autorouting, because of it's high resolution, and TALL screen. so this GPS is going back to REI. When I return the Co 300 back to REI, at least I will have some money to buy a 40 Gal. Gas Water Heater, since the old one broke a month ago, I been doing everything with cold water, or having to boil water on the stove.
  24. I found I cannot go into USB mode with any SD card in the GPS, but it will go into USB mode without a card in the GPS. Kinda strange.
  25. What do you mean by the map tiles gone poof? Mine have been struggling a bit to load recently too. The GPS just was not drawing map data in some of the TOPO 2008 map tiles, and if I remember, it just had cross-hatching in those map tiles, until I reset the GPS, then the bug went away, and has not come back yet. For some reason the GPS would fill in the map tiles on the edges of the screen, but not in the middle.
