  1. When it is dark and rainy, a bright GPS screen, could cause you to crash, because of the glare, so it is important to keep glare down, and to be able to keep your vision, dark adjusted, as if you were searching for faint objects in the night sky with a telescope.
  2. I also use the Lacross BC-900 battery charger, I got through Amazon, and it is the best one I ever owned.
  3. What I would have wanted: A Colorado 76 GPS, based on the 76 series but with the electronics and display from the Colorados, and the ability to be powered on 2 or 4 AA batteries, with a switch inside to switch between 2 or 4 batteries, and the reason for doing this, is to have a brighter screen, when switched to 4 battery mode. Also I like the form factor of the 76 series than the current colorado form factor. Just a thought here. I kinda wished there was better input, but the companies seem to not get our input very well due to their own ideas getting in the way.
  4. Some observations I have made: eXplorist XL: my GPS has 4 batteries, a very bright backlight, big screen, only 17 hours on the 4 batteries. Map60CSx: only 2 batteries, smaller screen, not a true color screen due to a highly reflective screen, and my CSx does have a slightly brighter backlight when plugged in. Due to the highly reflective screen, the batteries can last longer, due to not needing much of any backlight. The Colorado has only 2 batteries, but a larger very high resolution screen, and almost a full color screen, requiring more backlight. This unit does not have much reflectivity on the backplane of the LCD display, due to the better colors of the display. This unit should have had 3 or 4 batteries to power the better screen, and to make it brighter, like my nice bright eXplorist XL GPS. Also there is a difference between the 2.4 to 3 volt batteries, and the 5 volt USB power, in how much power is used to brighten the backlight. This colorado should have had a better power source, and they should have dispensed with the ackward backcover, that is troublesome, where alot of the bulk of the Colorado(size), is the backcover. Nice GPS, but not enough battery voltage to drive the backlight of this cool GPS.
  5. The only thing, I can think of is that the card may not be seated properly. I have had this happen before with my Map60Cx, and I had to re-seat the card in the unit, then slide the metal clip closed.
  6. I noticed slightly more map segments in the Non-NT Austrailia maps versus the NT Austrailia maps, so I don't know what is going on here, except for the fact that the map data is so much less than the North American Maps, where the difference in the North American maps can be quite different (1 gig NA versus 1.7gig non NT). So I don't know why the need for Austrailian NT maps if they are only slightly different than non-NT maps.
  7. Thanks for the post here, I just went into Map setup on my 60CSx and found a few problems, after having done a full reset the other day. I found LOCK ON ROAD turned ON, and fixed a bunch of other settings also.
  8. For proper routing between Ann Arbor Mich, and Detroit, the Map60CSx and my 60Cx do not use the KEEP LEFT and KEEP Rights, only Turns, with my City Nav 2008. There is one route where I am going south on I-275 to Ypsilanti Twp, via Michigan Avenue to: West Middle School 105 N Mansfield St Ypsilanti, MI 48197 You can try this on Mapsource and a Map60Cx/CSx and see for yourself. The problem is that going down Michigan Avenue from Southbound I-275 to the Middle school, there are several places that the road forks, and the stupid 60CSx will not show any of the KEEP LEFTS or any KEEP RIGHTS. The GPS totally drops the ball here. The Nuvis and Mapsource will show each point where I need to keep left or keep right at each fork in the road. In SE Michigan the 60CSx totally drops the ball, and I don't like it. It even has trouble when on some of the Freeways betwen Ann Arbor and Detroit, it will not display any of the Keep Lefts or the Keep rights, when the Freeways fork. I am thinking of at least a Nuvi 300 series. I miss my GPS V's I had, they did the proper routing between Detroit and Ann Arbor, whenever the roads forked in different directions. As soon as I had the 60C back in 2004, and tried to route with it, I quickly missed my GPS V units, I had 2 of them.
  9. I am unable to go back to Chipset type G 2.90 from version 3.00, so I need to do a full reset on my 60CSx, but I cannot find anywhere, how to do the reset.
  10. I found an interesting video> One of these will fail the GPS test: * Satmap Active 10 * Magellan eXplorist 600 * Garmin Colorado 300 The Video quality is low, but it is interesting to watch.
  11. May have to go back to chipset type G 2.90 once I get back my Map60CSx This is behaving too much like to Colorado GPS, to not to go back to an earlier chipset software.
  12. My troubles started at this point:> http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php...t&p=3188313
  13. I did a Google of gpsinformation firmware, then got this: http://www.gpsinformation.org/perry/ Closer to what we need: > http://www.gpsinformation.org/perry/gps60 I may need to knock down my firmware to before whatever happened in December, if I remember and started having my troubles then. EDIT: Fixed second link. ADDED in: > I had just given my 60CSx for her vacation, and until I see her again, then I would then be able to fix the issue with the 60CSx, because, it was actually a good performer when I bought it last September.
  14. Then what about the Marine profile? Seems silly to me since the recreational profile is useful to have should you want to hike etc, besides, the 400t has plenty of space on it and I doubt if the profile takes much of it. Profiles are one of the most useful features of the Colorado series and I use them. Are you short of space on your 400? Barry Some people probably don't want to have to SPIN through so many icons, with the R&R Wheel.
  15. I am guessing the Radios are at fault, if you got a Sat Radio, that may interfer with the GPS, also I am wondering if the wax changed the signal quality of the radio antennas ?? The only way around the problems of GPS reception in a car, is to have a GPS connected to an external antenna on the car's roof. There are re-radiating antennas that can work with an eTrex.
  16. The Economic Stimulus payment may equal a new Co 400t, in May.
  17. Kinda like me, with the Co 300 I had, it was always shutting off, then would shut off if there was any card in it, when I tried plugging in the USB cable. Except for the funky clock in the 400t, that seemed like a more stable GPS. Seems like any time the clock is not correct, it probably has to do a cold start. I called an REI in Troy Mich, and they said they had the Co 400t, but when I got there, which was a long drive, they only had an old one that was the display unit in the display case. it was 18Z001379, even older than the 400t I had in Febuary. My first Colorado was the 400t, from Feb 10 to Feb 20, and that was 18Z001716 This is the first time in 10 years that I had much trouble with a GPS, that required an exchange, the first time was with a Magellan Colortrak, and the second Colortrak was bad, so returned that. (1998).
  18. Welcome to the Forums. For hiking> PN-20 For Geocaching> Co 400t The PN-20 I believe allows you to load into it maps from Topo 7 with Trails that you can add to it from the PC. You can add draw objects to the Topo 7 map, before loading to the GPS.
  19. Hi Geoff, Can you please elaborate on that statement? I thought that other than the internal memory difference, the 300 and 400t would be identical hardware and firmware. The 300 would just have to retrieve the Topo 2008 info from an SD card instead of from internal memory. Are you saying that there are differences (perhaps between the pre-loaded topo map on the 400t versus the DVD-to-SDcard topo map that the 300 would have to use, that cause the maps to be less readable/usable on the 300? Thanks, George Topo 2008 from the DVD has over 6000 map segments, whereas the built-in Topo 2008 on the 400t, did not seem to show map segments on the screen, also I did have a failure on the Co 300, when I at first selected about 900 map segments to load on the SD card, requiring a reset, because the map tiles went blank. I just like the 400t better.
  20. Would be funny if that was radar absorbing car wax, so the police can't see your car.
  21. I had the 400t first, then the 300, but I find I like the 400t much better. The problem with the Topo 2008 on the 300 is shown in the following picture: In this picture, it shows the Basemap, then the Topo 2008 being zoomed out, and it is showing how bad the map segments degrade the map view, making it look ugly.
  22. They might have tested 2.50, but fixed a bug or two, then gave us the beta. I think 2.60 would be next.
  23. Had the GPS off for an hour or so, now I just turned it back on with my hand over the antenna, and it again says: 20:00:00 31-Mar-07 This same problem happened immediately after upgrading the Unit Software, so that would be the Software Version 3.60, and I may fall back to Version 3.50. Going to phone Garmin with the issue. ------------ EDIT: Beginning of the Error happened here: http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php...t&p=3188313 So it sounds like the GPS Chip software that goofs the internal clock of the GPS.
  24. Got that from this link:http://images.google.com/images?q=USB+car+...tart=0&sa=N
  25. Could you explain this statement please? When you have somthing like this: You can use a regular USB cable.
