  1. I retired form the Army Reserves recenlty after more than 20 years active duty Marine regular National Guard and Regular Army Reserves with two oil wars (14 years between them) and one combat zone tour at a banana republic. Plus, five or six MOS's. Right now I'm a clerk at a Federal Country Club in the trust fund section. No big shots attend our campus, although we're hoping to get Michael Vick.
  2. Ok, I'm lazy and can't do a search through the forums or the web. Started last weekend. Wondering if there is a local club.
  3. Eternal Bog? City & state please!
  4. I'm new myself. I went with a Garmin Legend, it's really cheap at wal-mart and E-bay. Watch out for used ones. They do have a bug. Read the thread on Legends blanking out. I have been finding out how to use mine and it's relatively simple. It takes a while to get used to since I'm used to navigating witha compass and maps.
  5. This happened to me on my second outing around 1730-1800 EST today. For the record, I was very close to major power lines, maybe 200-300 meters away and I have noitced when running in the area, my heart rate monitor jumps up over 200 bpm! Also, AM radio buzzes when driving under power lines. I'm glad to hear that other people experienced this bug. I bought my unit on E-bay recently and you never know what you will get. I thought I had a defective unit. "At least I'm not alone anymore" Sting- Message in a bottle.
  6. Thanks for the replies. Now, a few more questions: Do clouds interfere much with the signal? I tried to go hunting today, and I couldn't get a good heading many times. I even stood out in my driveway and saw all sorts of wierd directions, standing still the unit acts as if I'm moving. Whats the best way to hold the unit, vertical or horizontal to the ground?
  7. I have just purchased a ETrex Legend (the blue unit) and I haven't really read the whole manual. On the first night, I have looked around and can't get the map to zoom in. What kind of maps are supposed to be loaded? I think that the model is an older 2005 model, so this may explain some of the problem. I don't have mapsource and on first glance it's confusing as to the vast selection. I'm looking for East coast maps and I also need Denver, for a November trip. What are my options? Is there somewhere to go to download the stuff for free? I see quite a few discs for sale on E-bay, but I don't even know which to look for. This GPS stuff is new to me, being a 20 year military retiree who has only used paper and magnetic compasses!
