  1. Asking the question: Are they worth it? From a value standpoint, are the 60 and 76 series a better value at over $300 when the eXplorist 500 can be had for under $200 along with the latest Lowrance models. All of these brands latest models seem to have excellent reception. It comes down to how much you can afford versus the features you like better or need. And sometimes the better value may be the one you like the best.

Went on another long day-hike today with my 60csx in a MN State Park with trails with very heavy cover....my tracklog is a thing of beauty.....my old etrex Legend would have produced a log that looked like something from the Morse Code days.....this was a thing of beauty.

I think it was worth every dime.

  2.

City Navigator V8 NT DVD can be bought right from Garmin off their website as I did. Came this week. You have to do a search for it though....they apparently don't want to sell it to badly.

    Try this:

The upgrade version ($75) is not out yet...that's what most Garmin owners are looking for. The "First time loading" version ($139) appears to be out.

I understand. I bought mine for my 60csx which obviously did not have City Navigator pre-installed.

  3. SO is NT for sure work on the csx version???

I just got a new Garmin GPSmap 76CSx. It came with CN 7.something.

Downloaded CN 8 NT last night, free. Took almost 2 hours to download, dialup at 44 Kbps. (Yawn!)

Took about an hour to send most of the East Coast to my new 1.0Gb SanDisk microSD through the included "microSD/TransFlash to SD Adapter." I did not attempt to fully load it, as it was getting late and I had trouble enough. Keep reading ...

Some of that time was consumed looking for the microSD itself after I managed to flip it out of the little case it came in onto the blue carpeted floor. Part of that time was spent moving the ever so joyful 88lb male Husky/Malemute cross out into another room before he had a chance to "help me" look for it. Then I had to listen to his complaints until I found the micro chip and got it safely in the adapter, and the adapter into my PC's SD slot.

Chip seems to work fine, readly locating cousins in Chicago, a friend in Kentucky, and my wife's alma mater in Indiana. :)

How exactly do you download "CN 8 NT...free"? I'd be happy enough buying it but nobody seems to be able to sell it to me... if there's a downloadable upgrade I'd buy CN 7.x and upgrade it.

I have it loaded on my 60CSX and it works very well! The autorouting works great.

  5. puddlewalkers, I echo your enthusiasm for the 60csx. Our family just got back from a 9000 mile road and camping trip covering 18 states and 2 canadian provinces. The GPS was indespensible as you used it on the road and trails, especially in large cities for the first time. We never got lost! The exit for gas was especially useful for planning our next fillup. Also, drbugs, I would look at our direction on the interstate and correlate that to direction to gas stations.

It's great to hear all this positive feedback.

Just upgraded from an E-trex legend I have had for quite a while to the 60csx.

I just got City Navigator v8 yesterday and got it loaded up last night. Totally awesome. I think it is cool that I can load both the City Navigator and Topo maps for my area and switch back and forth. We are heading on a trip over labor day and it will come in real handy.

  6. Howdy....

    New guy obviously!

I am wondering if it is possible to load both Mapsource Topo and City Navigator NT maps onto my GPSMap 60csx at the same time?

We are taking a trip at the end of the month and would like to use City Navigator to get us there and Topo for hiking but don't know if it is feasible to load both at the same time.

    Pertinent Info:

    GPSMap60csx

    Firmware 3.0/2.7

    1 GB Sandisk MicroSD

Only have MN, IA, WI and IL City Navigator maps loaded right now so there is plenty of room. Only want to add Topo for MN.

Any constructive help would be much appreciated.

Note to the "Search Police" ......I tried.....didn't come up with anything.

    Thanks!

    Steve
