  1. Howdy, I received the following from a geocacher in Oklahoma. I work the day of the Marathon, but if anyone is planning to watch the Marathon in person, maybe you can help him out? (I think it's the Rock n Roll Marathon, June 5th).

  2. why would it weigh on anyone's conscience? what the heck do any of the stats really matter anyhow? Is it really that big of a deal to you all? My word, that does surprise me. I thought it was more about the activity. :D

It's not all about the numbers..... just mostly about the numbers. :D

(C'mon, I'm a guy, guys like stats, trust me.)

  3. It didn't show up when I put the "No Hinty on McGinty" waypoint into the search for Travel Bugs. Two other TBs did show up, but not this coin. The number on the coin only has four digits, unlike TBs with their six digit number.

California geocoins are being tracked on a different site....which...I can't remember. Somebody...help. Nevermind, I found it, go here...

  4. Keep your eyes on the approval status of my new one (no puzzle involved), submitted 9.40am today:

    Valley's End

    1:25 PM still waiting......

Oh yeah. I'll have another batch of puzzles to be released shortly in the next week or so.

    (4/2.5) Quit Poking Me! (GCM3BC)

(4.5/2) Searching for Bobby Fischer (GCMJWN)

(5/4) Unnamed Cow Spots and TT Puzzle Cache, though we like so far the title:

"Mommy! Mommy! Make the bad puzzle cachers stop!!!!"

Santa Maria! Time to go to Home Depot and get another stack of 2X4's! How many in a gross?

  5. Changing the thread topic:

Maybe there should be a special award for FTS ( First to Solve ) for Puzzle Caches

What I propose, is when you figure out the coords to a puzzle cache, Write a message, email the coords to the owner. The owner verifies the coords and awards the FTS.

The reward ?? - Maybe, just bragging rights.

Second condition: One entry per person only.

Third condition: No posts to the web site prior to the FTF and owner acknowledgement.

What say you one, What say you all?

    Claude

    --SlideRule

I'd say just write a note on the page and claim yourself as FTS.

  6. Hey Now! Thanks for the links, TG. I just got a Pocket PC and I've got every cache in SD county (that I haven't found) loaded up with GPX Spinner, too easy. Was a date decided for the paperless event? I still wanna attend.

  7. Does anyone have any recommendations for combining a few caches with shortish hikes to check out wildflowers in Anza Borrego? We're probably going out there on Saturday, and if I could accidentally take us to a place with a good showing of wildflowers *and* a few caches, that would be cool......

I thought Gloretta Canyon was very nice, check out the link:

    Thanks Duncan,

Is it accessible with a 2WD? How much of a walk is it? (I'd be happy with 10 miles, but certain other members of the party may not be.....)

It seemed okay for a 2WD, short hike (.30) to the cache, if you find the right wash... If you do the Gloretta cache, don't go to the end of the road, look for a wash on the left.

  10. Put your hands together and give a big round of applause from the peanut galleries for San Diego's first 2K cachers, Splashman and Splashette!. They went over the 2K mark today and settled in at a comfortable 2008!

    It's a looooong way to 3K, though.

    --TT--

    Nice work there, Splashers!

  11. Now.... we want to hear Flagman's story.....

The day will come, but you will have to be patient for a while....

Oh, oh! I know the story, but I can't tell, it's a secret

New puzzle coming out soon, hoping it will challenge the pros....

Could be a couple of weeks....

    We'll see....

  12. Has anyone seen my eTrex? I seem to have mislaid it (a yellow eTrex in a protective jacket), and View of the Jewel was the last cache I found with it, on Monday. So if anyone spots an eTrex nearby, please let me know! I see a few people have found the cache since me, so I presume I've just put it somewhere random, rather than having put it on my car roof and driven off, but just in case....

I hope it hasn't been nicked from my bench in the lab.

Well, it looks like it WAS taken from my bench in the lab! :anicute::unsure::anibad::yikes:

Does anyone have an old spare unused GPSr I could borrow until I can sort myself out with a new one?

Toby, you can use my Geko or Vista, they're not new, but I don't use them that much, you can borrow one for as long as you like.

  13. FYI

TucsonThompsen is undergoing surgery to repair a shattered left elbow he suffered while caching today. He should be OK, I believe he broke the humerus in 7 places while hiking, but he's staying overnight at Inland Valley Hospital near Wildomar.

Bad luck but he'll be OK.

Jeff, get more better, can't wait to see the scars, first round is on me.

  14. One route would be to start at Portobella and head from there up to North Fortuna, across the saddle to South Fortuna, down the steps into the valley, back up the hill to the stacks and then across towards Clairemont Mesa and back to Portobella.

No can do, Tom. The Portabello trail that skirts along the south edge of 52 towards N. fortuna is closed. Well....it's posted closed with a bunch of markers and what not, right at the trailhead by the condos and posted as closed by another set about .15 miles west of the duckpond.

I, however, wouldn't say that it's guarded like Checkpoint Charlie though.

Howabout the trailhead at the top of Corte Playa Catatlina?

  15. Duncun probably set up those cows for me; he was the previous finder ;) .

Hey D!, how was Palm Springs?

Well, since you asked....Did 105 caches mostly in a two day span, 56 on Thursday (my new record), 48 on Friday, and one Saturday morning as I made my escape. BorregoBill met me on Thursday and we cached most of Friday. Those caching trails are a lot of fun, don't knock 'em til ya try 'em. Was very lucky and had great weather, actually could've been a bit warmer. I think I could have stayed another two days and have found just as many (and my wife would have my head!).
