Ok, I'll bite. This HAS to be the Rocket Family's new home in the Rockies!

I'm not sure I would want to live in this place (hint), even if I could afford it. RM

Mr. Burns: This house has quite a long and colorful history. It was built on an ancient Indian burial ground and was the setting of satanic rituals, witch burnings, and five John Denver Christmas specials.

    Homer: (shudder) John Denver...

  3. Howdy San Diego geocachers, I'll be visiting your seaside community (staying near Hotel Circle) for a few days and would like to know if there are any "must do" caches in the area (say under 50 miles) that are rated 2.5/2.5 or under (I'm no X-treme cacher)

I'm also wondering if anyone in the area would care to join me, I'm free from the afternoons until ??? on 9/28 and 9/29, possibly on 9/27 too (I'm driving in, may cache along the way so unknown arrival time) deaparture time on Friday 9/30 is open

I'll most likely have my Jeep, so "off road" is ok (do I need some sort of permit?)

You can contact me at: vegasmoose702@earthlink.net

Hey vegasmoose, Flagman and I just did a series just north of Ramona that I really enjoyed. Here's the first one in the series: GCQDPV

Some very scenic back country and just right for a jeep! I'm usually free on Fridays. Take care,

    Duncan!

Edit: It would be wise to pick up an Adventure Pass : Vendors

  4. Well- the ever popular San Diego Thread has spun off 3 times- Coin Club, Banter (Photochopping), and now the Congratulations. What will be next?

It's a sign of the original thread's success. SD cachers are great. I wish we had a Cheers Bar where we could all hang out regularly- and we already know each others' names.

    Dave

Hey Now! What about Yrium's Geocacher Trading Cards thread? Can I be Norm?

  5. Okay, how weird is this!  I found the old Torrey Pines Extension cache today, bone dry in perfect shape.  Now, I challenge you to find the archived page for this cache.  You might have trouble finding it.  The cache was abandoned by it's owner after Flagman found it in March of 2004.  Why, who knows?  I added a new log book to the cache, took new coordinates and re-hid in the same place.  'there was even a TB in there!  Cache doesn't have any great swag, but it is neat to see the old logs (Tuna was FTF).  Duncan and the lost cache, indeed!

    D!

What's even weirder to me is that I KNOW I logged finds on both those caches, but my logs were deleted by the owner. No explanation, no response to e-mail, nothing. Just deleted my logs. And now the caches are archived in a most peculiar manner!

Re-log them. I don't think that the owner will even notice now. It is only fair. Especially if Spyder1 can log it three times (and a few others twice), I don't see why you can't log it once. I checked the page, and it's not locked from new logs, so GO FOR IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I second the motion. Log it!

  6. Okay, how weird is this!  I found the old XXXXXXXXXX cache today, bone dry in perfect shape.  Now, I challenge you to find the archived page for this cache.  You might have trouble finding it.  The cache was abandoned by it's owner after Flagman found it in March of 2004.  Why, who knows?

    This one?

    xxxxxxxxx

I think it was archived along with the other XXXXXXX caches because the Rangers didn't want them there AT ALL - not even the name of the park was left on the web site when they were archived (notice that the coordinates have been zeroed out as well).

Hmmm, well, I guess we'll see what happens...

    D!

Well, as long as we don't mention the The Park With No Name by name (oops, too late!) or provide the coordinates, I don't see how there could be a problem.. (assuming they haven't "bookmarked" it :anitongue: )

The first cache was further out on the ridge under some cactus, it really wasn't on

the trail but as I remember there wasnt any vegetation really to bust through all you had to do was wander around the bushes and go to the edge of ridge and look under the cactus.

The rangers supposedly bagged it after about 10 finds or so, Then it was rehidden a few days later where I guess it still is today.

If it is the one I'm thinking about The first to find was on 6-6-01 I was the 2nd finder on 6-7-01 and Tuna was the 14th then when it was moved.

What I didn't realize was that the log in there was a replacement. No, he wasn't FTF. Still interesting to see the "old" logs, though.

  9. Splashman and I stopped by 'Our New Favorite Park' again today to grab Duncan's new card. There were only two left, don't know where the others went, guess people haven't logged on yet. So, we took the two, one for us, and one for

Vulture & $kimmer who have the ENTIRE collection!

    Outstanding card as usual,

    Thanks,

    The Splashes

Yep, that was me. Took from Max's park: 1 #10, 1#20 and 2 #21 (of course). Need misprint.

    Thanks,

    D!

  10. Since changing identities seems to be acceptable, I finally got around to changing mine this morning.

Idiosyncratic is now Miragee, a name I borrowed from one of my favorite horses, a Paso Fino named Mirage.

Princess Toadstool and I had a great time caching with Parsa and dhsundance this afternoon. Today was a record caching day for me. Thanks to Parsa and dhsundance, and thanks again to P.T. for driving. notworthy.gif

    Changing names? How gauche. :D

  11. anyone remember who was making geocaching cards kinda like yrium's pals but they were of nature surrounding the cache placements?

Radical Geezer. I just saw one of his cards the other day for Cedar Creek Falls. Can't remember which cache it was...

  12. QUOTE (Dan-oh @ Aug 12 2005, 01:47 PM)

    QUOTE (TrailGators @ Aug 12 2005, 11:38 AM)

Dan-oh, can I assume that this makes you Belinda - the Good Puzzler of the North?

Can you at least tell us which one of your past creations this one is most similar too?

Lets ask the triple FTF cachers, Cornerstone4, D-Jollymon and John&Jess what they thought.

I tend to think its '******' meets '********'. Never mind, I don't want to give any hints. And since the first three have found it sans hints, its doubtful I'll add any.

I would have to say Dan-oh is the Wiz himself, but don't tell him, he might get a little big headed on us.

This one had a bit of everything in it, but it ran you around town a bit like "Bingo" did. I must admit, without D-Jollymon there, I most likely would have posted a DNF here and been begging for a hint. The WP before the final cache kicked my butt. His numbers were right on, my gpsr was putting me about 30 feet up the road. I would like to think I would have eventually found it, but maybe not.

Anyway, luck to all of you that try it! Cache on!

    Dan-Oh!!!

I've got to add my kudos to you!!! That one waypoint was a killer!!! I am still shakin' my head in disbelief. You da man! After doing hundreds of 1/1's in the Hanford/Visalia area it was nice to get back to the cruel reality of actual camo. Thanks for getting me back in form.

Dave, did you just do about 180 caches in the last 12 days? :P You da man! We'll have another kilo klub member soon... Congrats!

  13. Let me be the first to congratulate Bitmap on the big 5-0-0!!

    Way to go, Tony!!

(And yes, I know he hasn't logged it yet  )

Thanks much all...it's been a great 25 months caching so far and I'm looking forward to the next 500!

Tony, excellent job! I've seen a few of those.

  14. The Assimilation – 0900, August 3, 2005

In the many years that I have known them I had no reason to suspect that $kimmer and Splashette were far more than the Geobabe duo of local Geocaching fame. Unfortunately truth dawned too late for me for now I have been assimilated.

A cleverly disguised Borg scout ship arrived at my home precisely at 0900 on Wednesday, August 3, 2005. Outward appearances deceived because the scout ship seemed nothing more than an ordinary Jeep Cherokee. Too late I realized the significance of the “V-GER” vanity plates.

Closing the hatch of the rear crew compartment I was astonished to see that the vehicle was outfitted with a glowing and beeping array of advanced command, control, and guidance equipment.

At first bewildered I soon realized that I had been strapped down and assimilated into a Borg hive in biologically unusual ways. Cables and tubing of various sorts and sizes penetrated my body in unexpected and surprising ways. Oddly the experience was at once comforting and reassuring. A sensation of well being washed through my body as a battalion of nanoprobes sallied along the byways of my central nervous system. As if recalling an old memory I sensed a subliminal message –

We are the Borg. Lower your shields and surrender your soul. We will add your biological and technological distinctiveness to our own. Your culture will adapt to service us. Resistance is futile."

At once I received navigational information from two Garmin 60CS and one Magellan Platinum GPS receivers, database queries from two Palm Zire PDAs, map displays from a portable computer, search advisories from two 3G cell phones, crew-communication over a Bluetooth intercom installation, imaging services from three digital cameras, and a lot of pointed advice and direct supervision from the ship’s Captain and Navigator.

Mission instructions and operating procedures were immediately insinuated into my mind. I received the Borg identity designation “Seven and Three-Sixteenths of Nine.” I realized that Borgs $kimmer and Splashette were designated “Eight of Nine” and “Nine of Nine” respectively. Our mission was to seek meaning in the peculiar humanoid addiction of hiding worthless trinkets for like kind to find. It is a matter of extreme interest amongst the Borg to discover the cause for humanoid addiction to the unprofitable behavior referred to by code name Geocaching. Furthermore the Borg are convinced that all humanoids that willingly participate in Geocaching activities are certain to be highly susceptible to Borg Assimilation.

What followed was a highly organized and tightly controlled inspection of some twenty-three Geocaches spread over much of the central and surrounding San Diego urban areas. The mission report included the Cardinal finding that it is the smallest, most insignificant, least meaningful Geocaches that are manifestly most interesting to humanoid Geocachers. Go figure.

Our conclusive discovery was that humanoids are drawn to Geocaching containers much as a moth is drawn to a flame, because it is there to find. Indeed it is clear that humanoids are driven to touch each and every cache container on the face of planet Earth, and then to lobby for a way to do so all over again providing that they can double-clutch their find-count.

Our mission continues next week. Resistance is futile.

    This just in...

  15. Hello Friends

I figured it was about time I let everyone know that I am making the big move to Colorado.  I will be back in San Diego tomorrow for a few days, but on Monday we drive out to Denver to officially make the move.  I will have to fly back to San Diego at some point to wrap up the sale of our house, but that will just be for a few days.

San Diego cachers are definitely a great bunch of folks and I have made many good friends through this fun activity.  There have been too many good times to count.  I wish everyone the best and make sure you get in touch with me if you make it out to Colorado.  They have caches here too.

    Sincerely,

    Dave Rocket Man Kuhns

    igeocache@gmail.com

Dave, may you have the best of luck in Denver and few DNFs! ;)

    Duncan!
