  1. I leave Jack in the Box antenna balls - I figured people people must like them since they kept getting stolen off my car antenna. I used to pick up a supply of them whenever I was visiiting the states (no local restaurants up here in Canada ) but I recently managed to get a case of 100 of them on Ebay so I'm set for a while.

    A Bug Idea

Why not just attach a picture of her to a TB instead?
  3. Also, you won't miss caching opportunities due to muggles...
  4. The Banff race is just Race #1. Once that race has a winner I'll pick a new random target, update the bug goal descriptions and leave it to the racers to (hopefully) head in the new direction...
  5. Seeing how you just picked up my TB the other day I'm wondering if you are talking about the passport I attached. Here's the link to the word document template for my Travel Bug Passport...
  6. Things are looking up! After being stalled for 7 weeks the Canadian Chinook has finally been set free! Sure it's 34 miles west into a cache with a 2.5/3 difficulty/terrain rating but at least it's out there! I don't knows why caveguru felt the need to sabotage the bug but I'm sure karma will pay him back some day... PS: Id appreciate any help from people on Vancouver Island to get it moving...
  7. Me as well... It's disappointint - the person (caveguru) who has my TB has visited 13+ caches since he got it but hasn't dropped it off because he's looking for one with "high mobility". I can't understand why it would take 5+ weeks to find such a cache, nor can I understand why he thinks that it's better for the TB to sit with him and have zero mileage/activity instead of someone else having an opportunity to pick it up and move it. Needless to say, I don't have much hope...
  8. I'm thinking that if a person doesn't log a TB within a certain number of visits they should be put on probation - for example, give them 2 more chances to go out and drop off the bug, after which they wouldn't be allowed to log any new cache finds. You might not even lift the probation until someone else picks up the bug in order to prevent false logs... You could also let the bug owner lift the probation if, for example, it was returned or replaced...
  9. Well you could always try the English version... http://www.hyrspel.se/geocache/eng/gpscache_eng.html
  10. As a side etiquette question, what is the appropriate length of time to wait before asking someone to get your bug moving out of their possession?
  11. Thanks for the offer, but I'm under the impression that all bugs have now been distributed - the zero mile bugs either just haven't been picked up from the event cache yet(hence they still appear to be there) or they haven't been dropped at another cache yet. In other words, the only way for you to get them would be to track down the geocachers who participated in the starting event cache...
  12. Miles or kilometers, a number of us are still sitting at ZERO. Apparently some people don't understand the concept of a RACE...
  13. I don't know that I would be that gutsy - my Hit the Road Jack! TB got picked up and taken to New Zealand and then grabbed and taken to the USA. At 10 cents a mile I'd be looking at about a $1,669.93 donation to date...
  14. A shame to see a number of them have been trashed... Anyone have an idea on what % of cache's this happens to?
  15. Well I personally don't see any problems! I started late 2001, was, unfortunately, unable to have a chance to do much last year and have started getting greater interest/participation in 2003 - as well as introducing three other people to the fun. What would be the problem with having an attention span longer then 15 minutes that allows you to enjoy this hobby? Keep on hunting I say...
  16. Well you've got two visits to your webcam cache already... I suspect it will be popular!
  17. Well, my TB Canadian Chinook I was just reading over the race rules, though, and it raised a couple questions. First: Rule 3 d). When placing another racers TB you may only place it in a cache that comes up in nearby cache search on the Geocaching.com website. The search must be limited to a 50-mile radius. Now I have to ask is this a large enough allowable search radius? Just looking at the Canada cache map I can see that there may be a problem with this once the bugs hit the Saskatchewan/Manitobia/Eastern Ontario areas on the map as the bugs move eastward. It also sure cuts down on the likelyhood that any will move through the territories. I think this limit may need to be bumped up... Second: the race will be deemed completed on October 31, 2003 . I think this may be too short a race duration as well. If I take the length of the Trans-Canada highway as a rough estimate of the travel distance required (at ~4800 mi/7700 km) and divide it by the 50 mile travel radius you would expect the bugs to need about 96 cache stops to make it across the country. Given that there are only 109 days between July 4 & Oct 31 the bugs would need to move almost every day to be successful. Somehow, I just don't think that will be happening... I hope this doesn't come across as being nit-picky, I'm just looking ahead at potential issues. Thanks in advance to the organizers... 18. I'm going to try to get a bug ready for the race. One quick question: Will WCoaster be logging the initial drop of all the travel bugs or will the start cache be identified for the owners to do so before they mail them?
  19. It looks like my Hit the Road Jack! TB has jumped from Canada to New Zealand to California. Unfortunately it looks like the person who last found him in NZ picked & dropped him off at the same spot so there is no record of his landing in the USA. Is there a way for the TB owner to subsequently log missed stops so it gets reflected in the travels? Thanks, Phil
  20. The cache was originally called "Fish out of Water", but "Catch & Release" is probably a more appropriate name now...
