  1. Thanks for the detailed response. I'm sure your towel got you through it.
  2. I haven't heard much about how Geowoodstock did this year. We haven't been to a Geowoodstock since Indiana, so I'm just curious how it is faring.
  3. Maybe you have forgotten, but I asked you very nicely for an example from your own caches that demonstrates "responsible cache ownership." I'd really love to see how you walk the walk you impose on others. You obviously agree that the best defense is a good offense. Lone.R owes you nothing; no example and no explanation. You should respond to the topic only and not disparage posters.
  4. Not quite true. It's Munzee that's for people who haven't had success in other areas in their life.
  5. "Find a cache in every county? I live in Louisiana where we have Parrishes so why are you excluding me?" Cities = Towns = Villages. Counties = Parrishes. States = Provinces = Territories. The only difference is some legalese; they are functionally the same level of division for purposes of common sense. I live in my own little kingdom. How's that classified?
  6. Maybe the store owner wants people to come in, and be tempted to purchase something while hunting for coordinates, even though a purchase is not required to find the cache. Maybe the campground owner does not want strangers wandering around their property. Maybe strangers wandering around upsets the residents or ends up with landscaping being destroyed. Comparing apples and lemons... B. There was at least one cache submitted that would have taken finders into a privately owned campground. Permission was gained from the campground owner and it was stated that entrance was free with no interaction of employees necessary. It was denied for being too commercial. Sounds like this is pretty much the same thing. A cache can be on commercial property without being a commercial cache. Depending on how the cache page is written, there should not be any problem. Of course there could not be any strings attached to the commercial location. A cache placed for caching sake should be fine.
  7. Did anyone else notice the cat in the sandbox? Yeah, I did, but I'm cutting the newbie some slack. Cat? Sandbox? Oh oh!
  8. I see nothing wrong with replacing obviously missing caches.
  9. Looping is a general term for any situation where you either follow the same steps and/or get the same type of results over and over in a continual repeated fashion so when someone asks you what looping is, you can tell them that looping is a general term for any situation where you either follow the same steps and/or get the same type of results over and over in a continual repeated fashion so when someone asks you what looping is, you can tell them that looping is a general term for any situation where you either follow the same steps and/or get the same type of results over and over in a continual repeated fashion so when someone asks you what looping is, you can tell them that looping is a general term for any situation where you either follow the same steps and/or get the same type of results over and over in a continual repeated fashion so when someone asks you what looping is, you can tell them that looping is a general term for any situation where you either follow the same steps and/or get the same type of results over and over in a continual repeated fashion so when someone asks you what looping is, you can tell them that looping is a general term for any situation where you either follow the same steps and/or get the same type of results over and over in a continual repeated fashion so when someone asks you what looping is, you can tell them that looping is a general term for any situation where you either follow the same steps and/or get the same type of results over and over in a continual repeated fashion so when someone asks you what looping is, you can tell them that looping is a general term for any situation where you either follow the same steps and/or get the same type of results over and over in a continual repeated fashion so when someone asks you what looping is, you can tell them that looping is a general term for any situation where you either follow the same steps and/or get the same type of results over and over in a continual repeated fashion so when someone asks you what looping is, you can tell them that looping is a general term for any situation where you either follow the same steps and/or get the same type of results over and over in a continual repeated fashion so when someone asks you what looping is, you can tell them that looping is a general term for any situation where you either follow the same steps and/or get the same type of results over and over in a continual repeated fashion so when someone asks you what looping is, you can tell them that looping is ...
  10. Unfortunately, under those circumstances, you did the smart thing. Sometimes the best option is still undesirable.
  11. I totally agree. There are some very good virtuals out there. They certainly have more validity than challenge caches.
  12. The creepiest experience I had happened when I was scooting out a local park for a possible cache placement. I looked across a children's playground and saw a man without pants just inside the tree line. Fortunately, the admin office was near-by so I could report it right away.
  13. If I read this I start thinking maybe Geocaching is really dying. In my opinion, Geocaching is leading to interesting locations, worth a visit, a location I would like to share with others, something nice to visit. MB I agree 100%, it doesn't sound much like an outdoor treasure hunt reaching down from your bike to grab a cache every 530 feet. The game has evolved (or devolved depending on who you ask) into a different game than the original with less focus on the adventure and more focus on quantity. I was going to reply with my own post, but I cannot improve on what you wrote.
  14. This is just an example on how the numbers game goes against the spirit of geocaching.
  15. If you find that the coordinates are way off, just place a throwdown at GZ. Just kidding.
  16. Yeah, I am beginning to feel the same way, too. What I find funny is that you seem to try very hard to sound proper and educated yet you put anyone who dares disagree with you on ignore, choosing to dismiss their comments instead of responding to them. I have people in this forum that I vehemently disagree with on a regular basis and I have ignored exactly no one. For someone who's as educated as open-minded you'd like to portray yourself, you sure do hate being challenged, don't you? Quote of the day. There is a difference between disagree and attack. I find that many of the posters here become too negative and suspicious of what I see as honest questions. It results with the original poster feeling that he needs to defend himself and has the affect of not wanting to ask any more questions. Other forums I converse in are not so controversial. It makes for a much more pleasant experience. That said, I agree that the coordinates must be as accurate as possible. I used to have one cache where I couldn't place the physical cache at the spot I wanted. I turned it into a multi and projected a waypoint to the physical cache.
  17. I think that it would be unwise to assume that the lack of comment confers a consensus of agreement that a statement is correct. ^ ^ ^ This. I've lost count of how many times I've vehemently disagreed with something on these forums, started to type a response, and then decided it would be better to just keep my mouth shut. And I have posted that I agree with somebody's comment, many times. There are ways to do that without simply adding "+1", which doesn't add a whole lot to the discussion. --Larry +1
  18. I guess the reasoning is, "If it isn't broke, then let's break it in the name of progress and then try to fix it down the line."
  19. No, not really. It more indicates that the sport is populated by a lot of whiners. Nice. Thank you for your trolling.
  20. Also 60 and started caching in 2007.
  21. The way Geocaching is structured this is bound to happen. Numbers over quality, disregard of public opinion and destruction of the environment is occurring at an increasing rate. The numbers game is not only about caches, but about the large number of inexperienced and ignorant new cachers who are now in abundance. Add to them the numbers hounds and you get this. Groundspeak should set standards to be met before new cachers be allowed to hide caches. Caches should not be placed just because they can be. Instances like this and the fiasco near Ocala, Florida can and should be avoided. If these problems are not reined in, geocaching as we know it will not survive in the long run.
  22. I would rather have a short, concise and accurate log posted than one that is long, wordy and written to show how clever the poster is.
