  1. I'm glad the date has moved to 8th May as I'd be struggling for this Sunday! Put me down for an appearance. But I don't think the river is deep enough for a dive though! Having walked the length of the Water of Leith Walkway last year - with a lot of excellent company - it will good to put a little something back, by taking something away... Does that make any sense? It's getting past my bedtime! See you there!
  2. Congrats on reaching the 100! So that's why it took you so long to walk the Water of Leith Walkway... Well done!
  3. C NGR TUL TI NS! Looking forward to congratulating you in person at the Day Out on the 25th!
  4. Cache listing approved! Tell all your pals!!
  5. Event page has been sent for review. Sorry for the delay.
  6. I thought with all the dictionary entries, I was reading a Countdown fanclub's forum! At a lecture I once attended, the lecturer wrote 'Cognitive Dissonance' on the board and asked the assemblage of blank faces if they knew what it meant. My mate replied "Is it the Countdown Conundrum?" The event page will be posted tomorrow - as long as I get back from St. Abbs intact! As I said earlier, with the variety of people going, some walking, some cycling, some wanting to do loads of caches, some just doing the walk having done all the caches, I did not expect everyone to head down the River at the same time. And it's no fun if someone else finds the cache! Much better that everyone leaves a nice clear path for me through the undergrowth! All that is needed is that everyone check in at the outset and meet up at the end, or let me know if they're shooting off. Details will be on the event page and on the day. Travel arrangements - brief notes Parking. There is some car parking in the street at the start point, if you want to leave the motor there. I think Haggis Hunter's suggestion of parking at a halfway point is a good one - not a lot of free parking in Embra. I'll put a variety of parking locations on the event page. Buses - The 44 is the only one for Balerno, but there are a fair few between central Edinburgh and Leith. Again, some suggestions will be on the event page. The £2 day saver ticket is, ahem, just the ticket. You could jump on and off buses all the way down the river, if you like! Or would that be Buster Keaton?! Train - Get yourself to Haymarket, then catch the 44 in Dalry Road. Transporter - Get Scotty to beam you direct to each co-ordinate in turn. If only... Here, this event page is going to be a bit on the long side is it not? What have I let myself in for?! Cheers for now, marmal Now, 2 from the top and four little ones, please Carol...
  7. I'm off tomorow and will scout a few things out for the event page - should be posted soon. My thought for the day is that I'll be there at the start to see everyone off, then we all meet up at the end - whenever we get there. And I'm going to be walking, so that's probably not going to be much before closing time!! If folk want to set off in a group or on their own, it's entirely up to the individual. Like some of the others, I've done a few of the caches already so I'm going for the walk and the get-together at the end. I'm not a drinker - Malteasers are my drug of choice - so I should have the motor available to do some taxi duties. Done that before at a cache event... I'll put together some transportation ideas for the event page including some parking locations and bus routes. Haggis Hunter has already put links to bus route timetables on the cache listing for A Silver Thread in a Ribbon of Green. Hopefully, there should be enough information availble for everyone coming along to sort out something that will suit them. Of course, if you need anything else keep me 'posted'! cheers for now, marmal
  8. Right, better get a move on with this, as I said I'd do it a not a lot has happened... Where does the time go?! The next Gecachers' Day Out in Scotland is hereby declared for Saturday September 25th 2004. The location is the Water of Leith Cache Trail that runs through Edinburgh. A Silver Thread in a Ribbon of Green The idea is to start at the Balerno end and finish in Leith, doing as many caches as you like along the way. Some folks wish to do it on foot, others by bike, so you can decide whatever method suits you best. (Hopefully, skis will be ruled out!) Then we can meet up again at the Leith end for a small libation and some scran! I'll get the event page posted shortly, but if you have anything to ask right now please do so here. Cheers, marmal
  9. So there's going to be an event cache in the Far North of Scotland next May. Great stuff - can this be done on one of the Bank Holiday weekends? Might make it easier for as many folks as possible to attend. And I am going to organise one for East Lothian. The date will most likely be the last weekend in August, which is a Bank Holiday. I will place a number of new caches to complement the ones already there, so hopefully there should be enough to attract folks to this lovely part of the World. One of the reasons for placing caches in your own backyard, as it were, is to share your local knowledge with a wider audience, to let them enjoy the history, the people or the view! I am sorry that I don't live in a remote location, but there's not a lot I can do about that. Maybe I'll put one (or more...) in a place that is more difficult to get to, for those that wish a challenge I have a few things to sort out, of course, but should I be posting the event cache page any time soon? cheers, marmal
  10. Oakely doakely, where are we? So far the Far North, Orkney & Sheltand, the South West and East Lothian have been touted as possible venues. All have their merits of course, but logistically it would appear that the islands are the most awkward - as it looks like there is nobody 'on site' to place caches. I know I couldn't maintain any... I've wanted to go the far North and seek out some of the caches up there - and I would also be able to log the event cache!! So, that gets my vote!! Maybe the suggestion of more than one bash is the best - one in the North and one in the South. How's that?! But not at the same time, of course!! What about May and August? As I said initially, I'd like to organise one in East Lothian as there are far too few caches for such a fantastic place as this. It looks like I've volunteered myself! I look forward to hearing from you all. Cheers, marmal
  11. Did you go to the Scottish Cache Bash this year? Did you have a good time? If the answer to the first question is 'Yes' then the second answer will also be 'Yes' or possibly 'No - it was an excellent time!' I am interested in starting some comments about next year's event as I would like to get involved in organising it. My suggestion would be for South East Scotland - the Borders/East Lothian. Mainly because there are lots of nice wee towns, great walks, places of historical interest. And because I live in the area! So what do you all think? Cheers, marmal
  12. Sadly it looks like the marmal will be otherwise engaged on August 15th and will not make either event. However, being a farsighted creature I wondered if anyone has given thought to next year's Scottish Cache Bash? I'd like to get involved in this, as I really enjoyed my day out at this year's event. Given the comment earlier about the Borders can I suggest that it should be somewhere in Southern Scotland this time? The far North East is well served for caches as are Edinburgh and Perth, but the South East could certainly stand getting a few more! Lots of nice wee towns, great walks, places of historical interest - what does everyone think? I'll put this in a new thread, but I thought this one might be a good place to canvas some opinion! Please make your replies to the dedicated thread and not here - I don't want to sidetrack Haggis Hunter's thread. If I do, I might end up in some of his micros!! Cheers, marmal
