What i want is to duplicate the map and use it on other CrossOver Unit.
Then you bought the wrong Topo Map format.
Magellan states that their Mapsend CD products won't work with the Crossover or the 2200T-NT upgraded to the Crossover - But I had no problem using the Topo Canada and DirectRoute Eurpoe CD versions with my unit. The program even allows you to change the s/n of the GPS unit when creating your map regions hense you can create multiple maps for different GPS units. Each map though can only run on the unit it was creatd for. One 1 gig SD card can hold all of Canada as multiple map regions each of a max size of 65 megs each. eg It took 3 map regions to cover Ontario.
I too was waiting for the Topo regional download availability in Sept 2007 from their web site. I called frequently to complain that their promises of availability were not happening - they sent me via mail a free CD copy of it even though they stated it would not be compatible with my unit. That is BS.
Yes I cannot download the maps via USB to the device but the software allows you to save said regions to HD and then copy it to an SD card using a SD Card writer/reader. The map can then be accessed via the OUTDOOR/MARINE apps. Now I can create as many copies as I want and for different GPS units.
Funny how you cannot order the CD version any more via there web site. I don't think that they will be replacing them in the retail outlets either as they sell off. They now sell region downloads that can be placed on an SD Card, The card can only be used on the GPS whose serial number was used to order it and the SD map cannot be accessed even with your PC for viewing. All this for $50 a crack! (Canada is broken into 5 regions for a total of $250) Imagine if you lived on the border of a region you would need 2 regions to cover your area. Not so with the CD release which retails for $119 Cnd.
If you can purchase a CD version of the Mapsend product - that is the way to go at least for the Crossover units. More Bang for your buck! As long as the map is created as an ???????.imi file.
Topo Canada and DirectRoute Europe create "??????.imi" map files.
I did have Topo 3D USA which they sent me free instead of Topo Canada but I didn't open it and I sold it via the Internet before I could confirm that it worked the same way. I now think that I should have kept it since it was listed at $149 US and available via Ebay at $85. Think of the possibilities if you have a CD version!
