  1. I have a Crossover as well. You can use "Waypointer" free software to download your cache waypoints. also there is GpsBabel.
  2. What i want is to duplicate the map and use it on other CrossOver Unit. Then you bought the wrong Topo Map format. Magellan states that their Mapsend CD products won't work with the Crossover or the 2200T-NT upgraded to the Crossover - But I had no problem using the Topo Canada and DirectRoute Eurpoe CD versions with my unit. The program even allows you to change the s/n of the GPS unit when creating your map regions hense you can create multiple maps for different GPS units. Each map though can only run on the unit it was creatd for. One 1 gig SD card can hold all of Canada as multiple map regions each of a max size of 65 megs each. eg It took 3 map regions to cover Ontario. I too was waiting for the Topo regional download availability in Sept 2007 from their web site. I called frequently to complain that their promises of availability were not happening - they sent me via mail a free CD copy of it even though they stated it would not be compatible with my unit. That is BS. Yes I cannot download the maps via USB to the device but the software allows you to save said regions to HD and then copy it to an SD card using a SD Card writer/reader. The map can then be accessed via the OUTDOOR/MARINE apps. Now I can create as many copies as I want and for different GPS units. Funny how you cannot order the CD version any more via there web site. I don't think that they will be replacing them in the retail outlets either as they sell off. They now sell region downloads that can be placed on an SD Card, The card can only be used on the GPS whose serial number was used to order it and the SD map cannot be accessed even with your PC for viewing. All this for $50 a crack! (Canada is broken into 5 regions for a total of $250) Imagine if you lived on the border of a region you would need 2 regions to cover your area. Not so with the CD release which retails for $119 Cnd. If you can purchase a CD version of the Mapsend product - that is the way to go at least for the Crossover units. More Bang for your buck! As long as the map is created as an ???????.imi file. Topo Canada and DirectRoute Europe create "??????.imi" map files. I did have Topo 3D USA which they sent me free instead of Topo Canada but I didn't open it and I sold it via the Internet before I could confirm that it worked the same way. I now think that I should have kept it since it was listed at $149 US and available via Ebay at $85. Think of the possibilities if you have a CD version!
  3. Back in my earlier days of computing (the 80's) there were DOS utilies that could access the areas (sectors and clusters) reserved on a media for such things as FAT tables and table logs of bad spots on a disk whether it be a floppy or harddrive. These areas also contain info such as media type, manufacturer etc. These areas are not reachable via the regular explorer access. I believe all medias are assigned a s/n by the format process when they are formatted. Since using windows I have lost interest in these type of utilies but I believe they are still out there. I use to use one to create a catalog of what programs were on my disks just by insertting them into the drive via a "MS Basic program". This is why a disk cannot be fixed that has a damaged MBR (Master boot record). Most other bad spots on a disk will be flagged as "Not Usable" when you format a disk. This is transparently done on format. Also this is the main purpose of "Scandisk" with the repair option turned on. Maybe still do-able with a "Basic program"
  4. Vantage is not for the Crossover. There is Waypointer and GPSbabel which are free and can be had off of the Internet. Also the biult in Topo maps of the lower 48 USA states are only at a resolution of 90 meters. You will get better resolution once you purchase some proper Topo maps software. Topo Canada allows me to zoom in to 50 Meters. The rockies really show up nice on the unit. I like the way that you can use Vehicle Nav to get close to the waypoint and then switch to Outdoor app to continue the journey!
  5. Try the CD anyways - I use Topo Canada CD as well as DirectRoute Europe and you know what Magellan says about that - "Can't be done!" Well there is no special trick here - just put it on your PC create your Map region - save it on your HD and copy it to an SD card - place it in your unit and away you go. I use the 2200T-NT - upgraded to a crossover and it works fine in outdoor and marine app. If you can still find the CD version I would recommend them as appose to SD card map purchase. email me for more info ezeechair@rogers.com
  6. This is the magellan explorist500LE (5.2.17). Any suggestions? I originally bought a Traveler Bundle which included Eplorist 500 with direct route software. Returned it nothing but problems. 1st unit frooze up on me. 2nd unit software cd was buggered would not work. Got a new cd but then could not for the life of me figure out how to unlock Direct Route which was suppose to be included in the package. Tried to contact Megallan customer support after 50 mins wait hung up. Returned it all bought Garmin GPS60CX much happier. I have a Magellan 2200T/NT with the Crossover upgrade added Comes with 48 Lower USA States (90 meter) and I also have Mapsend Topo Canada CD's as well as DirectRoute Europe CD. I am currently waiting for spring to try it in the woods ( I'm a city dewller)as well as Manchester England. It has an 8 hr Battery life and has the ability to shut off the display while still tracking. With the Crossover the CD map software is not tied into only one GPS. I can create map regions for different Crossover GPS units. Topo Canada Map detail covers down to 30 Meters and displays rivers/streams/lakes/marsh -wetlands/ Hydro Line corirdors/ railroad tracks and major public trails eg Bike path in Orleans Ont. and roads as well as elev contours. Lessor trails- you would need to Track them for later reference. Maps also come with City streets and POI's. Max region size is 65 megs but a 2gig SD card can easily cover all of Canada. Ont took 3 regions to cover all of it.
  7. I assume you have a Magellan - if so which model?
