  1. I believe metal detectors are permitted as long as prior authorization is attained. A simple phone call usually suffices.
  2. it's ok everyone...I panicked too when I read the article and I work here! ha.
  3. Glad to hear you had fun here. Not sure if you had an opportunity to cache in River Legacy Park but with our newly added Metrovest addition there are MANY opportunities in this great park. My family and I are still stomped on one cache hidden by, what we believe, is the Living Science Center (we think it's in the creek somewhere) but we'll find it one day.
  4. Good morning everyone... I work for the City of Arlington's Parks and Recreation Department. Our department heads are aware of the inaccurate information depicted in this weekend's Star Telegram. We have received several emails from citizens voicing their concerns. I myself along with my family and several friends have been geocachers since 2003. I am attaching an email that our Assistant Director, Matt Young, is sending to all those who have been mislead by the article. I will also post this in a new thread to make sure all of those individuals who live in Arlington and enjoy our many parks know that they are still, as always, welcome to geocache in the City of Arlington. Here is Matt's letter..... My name is Matt Young and I am an Assistant Director with the Arlington Parks and Recreation Department. As you can imagine, we have received numerous emails about yesterday's article on our new park ordinances. Unfortunately, Ms. Schrock was incorrect by stating that geocaching was prohibited in our parks. This is not the case. Section 4.08 - Use of Metal Detectors - states "It shall be unlawful for any person to use or operate a metal detector in a City park, except by permit from the Director." While writing the article, Ms. Schrock visited with staff about the ordinance and geocaching was discussed. However, the City of Arlington does not plan on prohibiting geocaching in our parks in any way. While we have had a few groups damage park property in the past, we understand that 99% of the time we do not even know that geocachers have even visited our parks. This ordinance is simply aimed at trying to limit destruction of park property, not negatively impact the recreational activities of our patrons. I want to apologize for the erroneous information in the article, and thank you for taking the time to write about your concerns. If you have any other questions or concerns with the new ordinances or our park system in general, please feel to contact me directly. Sincerely, Matt Young Assistant Director - Park Operations City of Arlington, Texas (817) 459-5486 "Working Together to Make Arlington Better" Thanks everyone. Let me know if you have any questions! 7. Well, bright me (sarcasm) found the travel bug (sooooo that's what TB stands for...duh) yesterday (Alvin at River Legacy). Good thing I read the tag! Well, I just GRABBED him and logged the find and now I guess I need to relocate him. Will be doing so tomorrow. ONe more thing...oh joy oh rapture...I've discovered chigger bites all over my feet, legs, and even my hiney. Note to self, "Sitting on the ground when cacheing is NOT smart!!!!" I HATE CHIGGERS. 10. ha! Ya'll crack me up! Well...here's the scoop. Pharaoh and I hit Randol Mill today and found our VERY FIRST cache!!! Took us all of 2 minutes. Logged our find in the journal...took a couple of knick knacks, left a really cool shot glass and something for the kiddo's. Then we were off to River Legacy Park. Did the Christmas in July cache. Got coordinates to parkinglot, then trecked to coordinates which led to a tree with MORE coordinates. Then trecked to final coordinates ....found huge cache box...saw furry critter run from under box....I read some of the log journals, laughed, logged my own, took glitter nail polish, a pink bracelet, a small stuffed teddy bear, and a ferret pin. Left a trailor ball cover, a really neat pair of pattern scissors, and a money eraser. And lo and behold..what do I find....ANOTHER set of coordinates to the BONUS cache!!! Look at puppy after entering coordinates in tracking device. He gives me the "You're KIDDING!" stare. We treck back to car....run AC...go home and drink a lot of water. I tell him that we ARE going back to find the bonus cache this weekend. He wags his tail. Yep, I'm in soooo much trouble! LOL Oh...and thanks for the breakfast invite, but on June 13-15th we have a campout trip with the NTPUCA (North Texas Pop Up Camper Association). Yet another organization to devote my time to. Will it ever end?! Jen Me, DH, 2 dogs www.texascamper.com
  11. Geocaching...what the heck is that?! That's what I thought when I first heard about it a month or two ago from someone that frequents this site (he he he). I was enthralled to listen to how this all works and soon after went back to my daily routine. Then, a camping buddy posted about Geocaching on one of the other boards I frequent. I thought, "Let's go to the site, and REALLY check into this!" I did, and come to find out, there is one hidden in the very place I work! (once again..he he he) Soooo, naturally, I am now committed to finding it! I have asked to borrow a friends/coworkers Global Positioning Device and am headed out today or tomorrow (depending on when he brings it) to find the darn thing. I have probably walked passed it hundreds of times. I am almost scared to start this hunt. Knowing me, and knowing how addicted I can get to anything envolving the outdoors, this could become my second obsession. ha! By the way...yes, they did print an article in the Star Telegram about the River Legacy East cleanup. Great article with Tstorm's (I think that's her screename) pic!
