  1. It could be tempting, but the difficulty is finding that chunk of cash in one go.... How many of the coins are activated?
  2. I have recently purchased a Garmin GLO, to work with my iPad on the aviation package Sky Demon. I also realised that it gives pretty accurate Coordinates for setting caches. So a question emerges from this... What Apps are there out there for averaging these readings to give as precise a reading as possible? Thanks
  3. I like the pink and white one at the end of the middle row. Count me in for a set (or two!)
  4. Yes Messe I would be happy to take the alpha quest on, and to be its guardian. I have sent a message, look forward to doing my part if I am needed
  5. I would hope that you would give someone a chance to log a TB into a cache, I have on a couple of occasions placed trackables in caches and by the time I have got home and another cacher has grabbed them from me; not a problem in itself. I just wish, as mentioned above, they would place them in the cache then move it on. It keeps the mileage right. If that is done I do not mind, but if they haven't I will often grab them back and place them where I place them. Likewise I give people a few days to log trackables into a cache, if not I will grab and I always place them in the cache which I found them. Sadly then I have to struggle to find a cache large enough to place them in...
  6. So, I also know a traditional cache that was recently archived. I visited the location but was unable to find it. But I now know where it should have been. My thoughts. Don't log it matey! Hmmm Not sure which side of the fence I fall on here. I have logged traditional style caches that have been archived, normally because I have an out of date pocket query, and in one case an archived cache in a location about three feet from where someone had planted a new one, and I was going for the FTF. I logged that with the owner's permission/encouragement. On the other hand I called in for a pint in a pub that had was a venue for an event three weeks before, but did not bother to log that 'find' I suspect I would probably log it if I could, I had fulfilled the requirements, and would get the smiley. I also find multiple variants of the YOSM (Ye Olde Survey Monument) moveable virtual, so Yes go for it
  7. Glad to see that our friends from the other side of the Atlantic keep an eye what is happening over in the United Kingdom/Ireland Forums. More than most geocachers from this country. Did make me smile a bit though, perhaps not the kindest post ever, but a bit of truth?
  8. Yes I did like that Video, did make me giggle a little! Well I am pleased to say that I managed my 31 days - just need to log them first, and a massive congratulations goes out to everyone who did it, and now to work out what to do with all those pesky souvenirs, that appear at the top of the list. Now can I do the 30 days of September?????
  9. It is now the 24th August, and I have managed to collect at least one cache everyday so far this month, but looking out of the window the weather is not so great. But I shall be out there to complete the month, and then see how far into September I can go. How is everyone doing? Best of luck to those completing.
  10. I could take this one over in order to keep the series going. I do get ovet this way occasionally, and ought to have some caches now I have moved back to the area. Please email me through the Groundspeak page with the details of the cache, and the magic numbers, and I will see what I can do.
  11. I have an Oregon 550, and it is a fantastic little piece of kit, especially with the paperless caching. I have also purchased the OS maps for it, the 1:50k series, and I find them very useful for navigating, and quite accurate too. Can be very good for finding rights of way too. As for the camera, I do like that very much, I guess it is not a patch on my canon EOS for picture quality, but the best thing is that I use GSAK for logging finds - and I download the photographs onto my my harddrive at the same time as I download my cache logs, and it is then very easy to add the photographs to my logs, by matching the time of the cache find, and the time the picture was taken.
  12. I had the sam eproblem this morning (in UK) and no caches showed on geocaching maps So I restarted my laptop, and tried again, and they had returned Looks like the old switch off and switch back on might work
  13. How irritating is that? I fully understand the reasons for shutting them down for a short while, but I was lucky enough to have access to tickets for one of the events, and was looking forward to find a few caches on one of my rare trips to the capital (Last one was in 2003 to the countryside march...). That's a bit of a lie, as I did go to the Royal Albert Hall for a concert a couple of months ago, all the same do not go there very often. The added frustration is that it is a missing day on my geocaching calendar too. Does this apply to Virtuals, and Earthcaches as well?
  14. I have the same problems. Especially irritating when using links from email notifications, having to login everytime Please fix when you can - Thanks
  15. I have pair of Zamberlan leather boots, and they are fantastic, They need cleaning, and treating with a wax to maintain the leather (As is the case with all boots) As stated in above logs - you (generally) get what you pay for. I went to Lockwoods, in Leamington Spa (not too far from you!) and spent over an hour in there having my feet measured, and trying a couple of different boots. They are asked for type I wanted - leather, or suede/fabric. I wanted leather and they gave me the boots best fit for my feet. I suspect that was six years ago, and I paid £120ish, but I cannot remember exactly. I can thoroughly reccomend them especially for the level of service. The boots are used on a weekly basis and still going strong. As an aside I used to have Karrimor KSBs (when they were an independent company) and got about 2 years out of them, then the suede flex zone above the toes would crack, and split. As well as Lockwoods, There is a chain called Cotswolds who have always provided me with excellent service and advice when I have wanted other outdoor equipment, so I would expect them to be good too.
  16. I believe there is a thread on the feedback feature that is campaigning for the cache setter nominating the timing of the publishing of the cache. (I tried to link to it, but I am unable to do so) I expect this a system where the setter can tick a box for publishing ASAP, but does allow for setting a time in the future for the cache to be published. For example to coincide with an event or special day, allowing the setting and placing of the cache, and approval agreed in advance. Then at the appointed time it would be automatically be listed. I know this would not be of much use for those choosing the ASAP option, but could allow some flexibility of cache release. If you agree follow the feedback link, and use your vote.
  17. Thank You Gushoneybun That was exactly the answer I was looking for, and have sucessfully downloaded, and placed all the YOSMs into a master, and separate database on my copy of GSAK. You guess correctly from Rutson's questions the correct answer was number 2. These things are really simple when you know, but there is that saying about stupid questions.... All the best Boggin's Dad
  18. I use GSAK for managing pocket queries etc One thing I have not been able to do is to take the GPX files off the YOSM website and then insert them into a database on GSAK. Can someone please help? Many Thanks
  19. I have seen this happen several times, I have usually got a chainsaw in my hands though. I suspected you needed some clean trousers! Perhaps it was a message not to archive your cache?
  20. I have always taken a flask of coffee, no matter what the time of year, but it always started to taste a bit funny, then I was pointed in the direction of sachets of cafe latte, or similar purchasable from any supermarket. Then carry a flask of boiling water, and heypresto, a freshish cup of coffee. If out all day we will take a full packed lunch, particularly like baguettes with sausage or ham or cheese, crisps, and apples. Plus always lots of chocolate On finishing the day, a trip to a local inn, or sometimes we have to go to Pizza Hut, as it is the only way to get Evil StepMother out caching.....
  21. Matthew 7:7 Two is absolutely right, Have a go a GSAK; I am an absolute computer duffer, and I manage to do the maps, and even ran badgegen macro for a bit of fun, but that needs updating. GSAK is very powerful, and if you do give it a go the 101 guides are comprehensive, and worth following through. Good Luck
  22. Like this coin, Would be interested in some of these
