Ga Geocaching Monthly Video Podcast
seeker22 replied to gumbyatl92's topic in General geocaching topics
I enjoyed both films! I think I liked the first one best though ( the uncensored one was hilarious). Loved the camera work. Watched it several times. Liked them so well that I even bought some of your art on cafepress to help support you so you can hopefully make more films. Keep on filming. -
I have some rubber tips from Home Depot in both black and white, but they look so institutional on the staff and not very aesthetic. I'm still waiting for delivery on the ferrule source suggested by El. Thanks for the suggestion on another source CanningClan. I'll check it out. Just started whittling most of the bark off my second sassafras stick. I'd like to carve a wood spirit at the top of this one. Going to a Woodcrafters store tomorrow for advice, supplies and resources. I have a bare diamond willow stick coming in the mail to play with as well. If it wasn't below 25 degrees I'd be geocaching instead of sticking. Oh well, its tax season for my CPA wife and I'm left to whatever pleases me this time of year. It will be caching, stick-making, and range shooting until April 15. YAHOO! Maybe winter isn't so bad after all.

Thanks El Diablo, I will check your link on the metal base. I'll post the final product when I'm done. The stick is for a caching friend who has helped me and put up with many of my antics. Oh no, now I have another hobby--stick making! Just what I need, another hobby! Already have several stick requests from family members and I'm not even done with the first one! I really like the grain in the sassafras wood. Just bought a folding hand saw to get some other type prospective sticks while I'm out in the woods. Cache-on, Stick-on...

I just made a rather nice sassafras stick with woodburning deco. The bottom is a precice 7/8" but I don't want to put a rubber tip on it. I'd rather do a pointed metal tip. I don't want to add much weight with heavy plumbing hardware. Any ideas for a metal working neophyte? Something I could craft with handyman tools at home?

Do You Feel Guilty "sneaking" Around...
seeker22 replied to Alan2's topic in General geocaching topics
I never feel guilty. But I sure do feel uncomfortable with playground caches. A lone middle-aged man poking around a children's playground is just wrong and we should be cognizant of non-cachers comfort level when we are around. I won't do anymore playground caches until I get a grandchild to accompany me and give me a reason to be there. -

Awesome photos!! All I got was a magnetic micro and a tupperware at lunchtime today. But you know what, they were finds all the same. And I will be looking for the more nature caches like your finds in only 3 days this coming weekend. Ribit, Ribit.

How about the difference between a small and regular? Recently planted a tennis ball keeper cache. It can hold 3 tennis balls in size. Is it small or regular?

I hid a cache at 4 PM today. GCMMG9 Page submitted at 5:30. Cache approved before midnight. Could this be a record? Winter weather must hold back hides, therefore free up approvers time. What is typical approval time? [

I will always log a no-find unless there is no way I can get to a cache that is viable. I mean flooded access or something that would prevent me from even trying to find the cache. If I can't look for it, I certainly couldn't find it. Therefore its not a no-find, its a not able to look. I will post a note in that case. Otherwise, If I can't find the cache I always log the DNF. Its only fair to the hider and true to yourself.

My son-in-law told me about cacheing. He had an old Garmin given to him from his Dad that basically only got you within .1 of the target. He was finding caches regularly, even at that distance. Sounded intriguing, but I knew I wasn't as clever as Rick and I needed a better unit if I was to be successful in the hunt. I had recently made some lifestyle changes; quit smoking after 30 years, lost 50 lbs, and began exercising. So, I had many years of saving up Marlboro premium miles clipped off the packs. After I quit smoking, I picked up the last Marlboro premium catalog offered. Coincidentally, one of the premiums was a little yellow Garmin E-trex. I ordered it as a freebie and started caching. I was hooked from there on. My first 250 finds were with the little yellow. I've since upgraded to a Garmin 60cs and I like it better, but I could still find most all I hunt with the little yellow. So I think it was fate that what made me a smoker, also made me a healthier cacher. Going for number 400 this weekend. Cache on.

What's The Furthest You Have Travelled For A Dnf?
seeker22 replied to GeoWombats's topic in General geocaching topics
I have posted 2 no-finds and 2 un-posted no-finds on a cache 1 mile from my home. Those were the longest 4 miles I've ever driven in my life on the way back home. Seemed like 4000 miles to me. I guess distance is all relative to the experience! -
Just get a little yellow etrex fom Target, do a little research on geocaching.com, and you can find any cache that a 1000 find cacher can claim. Might be more fun with a fancy geek machine if you're into it, but not necessary. Have fun

60cs here
-
Found my first 300 with the little yellow etrex. Caching is not rocket science, but its a little more interesting with my 60cs. Compass, color and auto-routing are the bees-knees, but expensive. Play the game with what you can afford. All GPSr's will get you to the cache. That is the ultimate goal after all.
-
What cache did you attempt? I live nearby. perhaps I can help
-
I own the 60cs. It is very easy to export to Mapsource. As has been said: in GSAK click on "file" > "export" > Mapsource MPS. Choose the file. open mapsource select "file" > "import" > then selct the file you just created when you exported from GSAK. I would not bother with the serial cable. Use the USB cable that came with your unit and download from Mapsource. This is much better technology than serial and you won't believe how fast data is transferred- almost instantaneous!

There is another way to play a practical joke without going to the majic shop or wherever you get fake snakes. This cache is firmly tongue in cheek and a real hoot. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...a4-035780b8fbcc

Why can't this site have spell-check when logging finds? I need it and obviously many others do as well.

I'm Hearing Alot About The 60c And 60cs
seeker22 replied to quills's topic in GPS technology and devices
Getting my 60cs tomorow. Know i'm going to like it. Look out Chicagoland caches, i'm going on a tear with it. -
I always carry the GPS. There is even a cache at O'Hare! I schedule meetings around caching out of town. People tell me to get over it. ____ them!
