The question I asked refered to desert, as in way out in the middle of nowhere, but a variation with a gate post at a ranch might work. Make a marker that looks like a survey marker. Hide the cache inside. Use a piece of PVC pipe and paint it up orange and white and plant it out there.

This one was a good night time cache done by Arkansas Bugman for Halloween. He did a great job with it. The caches are still there to be found but the extra Halloween stuff was taken down after the first night.

Sounds like a drug drop rather than a geocache. Most of the ones I find have loose change or maybe a sac dollar or a WG dollar. Large amounts really are rare. If you find one, let me know. I brought my cache home tonight to do some maint. work on it, and of all the logs and stuff people said they had put in it, I found one item that should have been there, and 28 cents in change. Not one of the logs mentioned dumping their pocket change into my cache, or taking half a dozen other items out. I'm wondering if some of the finders of my cache were less than honest in their logs. Back on topic: My next cache will have some great FTF prizes, close to $50 worth, I think. Just a couple more items to round up for it, a paint job, and it'll be ready to place. A rat trap makes a great FTF item, and you can get them at the $ store.
