  1. VT, if you are following a guide, could you post a link to it? I am following a guide now but my topos don't come out nearly as nice as yours. Plus, i haven't yet figured out how to do streets. I would love to have the maps for my area but i'm also interested in learning how to do them. =) Thanks, Daryl
  2. Wow, that was quite a bit to digest but i got it. Thanks! Most of it's common sense but there were several points made that made it well worth the read.
  3. On this subject, is there a "Read this first" entry for establishing a cache. Something along the lines of rules... what do include... what NOT to include or guidelines on where it can/can't be hidden? I'm sure it's here somewhere... can someone point me in the right direction? THANKS!!
  4. Personally, i can't wait to plant my first cache!! C'mon, FEDeX... bring me my GPS!!!
  5. Okay here's his response: ... and his response to the picture of the can Ambrosia posted: I'm guessing the one in the picture isn't it... but definitely a cache, right? What do you all think?
  6. I just sent the picture to him to with this: "Did it look anything like this?".
  7. Is that the actual box? I just sent an email to him to get any more information on the can: Should hear something back soon. Thanks again, everyone for all the help in clearing this one up. Can't wait to get my GPS so i can actually start looking for some!
  8. Exactly, what i was going to say. Top Notch by Las Tres Chupacabras is the only one on that list that could be it. Any chance it could be listed with a different caching database? Again i'm new here... just grasping at straws now.
  9. .... removed suggestion to solve puzzle... sorry ... bad judgment.
  10. Okay, looks like i came to the right place for this. Thanks, all, for the insightful responses and welcomes. Yes, he is moved so no chance of getting the original can back up there. I pulled up gEarth and got some coordinates. This was my first time riding up in this area but i got as close as this: 31° 50.877'N 110° 45.749'W I feel pretty confident in saying that this is within a few hundred feet of the cache. Again, I didn't see the actual location. He just kind of pointed and said "up there" . So, should i now just head over to the caches for this area and just keep looking for the closest one or is there a map view that you can look at with pushpins of all caches listed for an area? Thanks again, everyone for helping me get this one off my conscious! dk
  11. I ride quads with a guy who has since this incident moved to Florida. Basically, he and i were riding north of Sonoita, AZ when we stopped and he said something about a geocache. The conversation went something like this: Him: "yeah, i was out here last week and i found a cool ammo can way up on top of that hilltop <points to rocky crag> with some trinket stuff in it." Me: "Really... what did you do with it?" Him: "oh, it's in my garage" Me: "So you took it?... that was a geocache, dude. you're not supposed to take those. You have to put it back." Him: "A geo-what?" Me: <explanation of geocaching ...> "... and it's just jacked up to take one; whether or not you found it by mistake or not." <uncomfortable silence follows...> So, my question is how do i report this so no one goes up there and spends hours looking for this cache? I'm new to the sport. In fact, this is my first post here and i'm still waiting on my gps in the mail. Thanks, Daryl
