[Possible joint event for geocachers and hams]

Every year the Alamogordo, NM Amateur Radio Club (AARC) holds a hamfest on the 1st or 2nd Saturday of September depending on what date Labor Day hits. My husband, Dave, and I are geocachers and hams (licensed HF amateur radio operators) and thought it would be a great idea to introduce a geocaching event to our future hamfests. How are these hobbies related? Both use GPS technology. If you are a really hardcore geocacher and like going after those caches that are located in the middle of nowhere, then having a hand-held ham radio is a great backup in case you go where you can’t use a walkie talkie or cell phone. If this idea generates enough interest, then we would look for someone who is very knowledgeable about the geocaching activities in NM to volunteer to head up the event with AARC’s help. As an incentive, we would place and offer a limited time access to a special geocache and a special FTF prize. If you would be interested in an event like this, please reply to this post.
