  1. A big thank you to HQ as i received a new message today from a cacher that I had never heard of. It was also not about one of my caches and was a little vulgar. It also had a link to click on, which I didnt do. Now, that I have had a chance to get on the computer, I see the account is new, no finds, no hides and has been locked. First time in 17 years of caching that this has happened. HQ was right on it! True cachers are the best!
  2. Not sure if this is the right place for this topic. I recently downloaded Windows 10. I thought Groundspeak did an upgrade to accommodate Windows 10. I tried to submit a new cache and after clicking the button to go to review and submit, I received a totally blank screen. Nothing more. Help please.
  3. Not sure what the problem was as I was doing everything exactly like I have been for years now. The files looked fine. The Garmin looked fine. etc. Today at Crescent Moon's suggestion I deleted all of my pocket queries on GC website and started over. I built brand new pocket queries. That seemed to resolve the problem.
  4. For the last few days I have uploaded pocket queries into my Garmin Oregon 550. Yet no caches are found in the GPS. Crescent moon is also having the same problem. Anyone else experiencing this problem? what could I be doing wrong.
  5. I took my Oregon Garmin out of the car glove box and turned it on. The screen keeps scrolling. I have replaced the batteries. I know it has been hot and I was an idiot for leaving it in a hot car, but can it be saved?

    Codes

Thanks - always good to learn something new.
  7. I was looking for you at the Friday night event. I didn't hear about your accident until Book Club last night. I'm so glad you weren't hurt seriously, but sure you must have been sore for a few days. I drive a Ford Escape. I love it - just wish I could afford a Hybrid. I test drove a Jeep, but just couldn't reach the gas peddle (darn short legs). My Escape has been the perfect cache mobile. And I have appreciated Ford's reputation and business approach during the last few years. My only problem with it - is I can never keep it clean. It's all those dirt & gravel roads I find myself on. In traffic you sit a little higher than cars, so it's good for visability. Yet, not too bad for parking. Best of luck no matter what you get.

    Codes

I did the practice tutorial and it gave me a code and asked me to post it on Wherigo.com. I don't see any place on the website to post a success code. I guess they just wanted me to write something in this blog about if I like the Wherigo. I will attempt to do a local Wherigo tomorrow. I didn't find the tutorial all that intuitive, but was able to stumble my way though it without getting frustrated. We will see how it goes tomorrow.
  9. Most areas have local geocaching groups. Look at the top of this forum - Miss Jenn mentions links. Also if you check out the forum by area say WEST and Southwest, there is a list at the top for each area of organized groups and their websites. If you attend local Event caches you will meet all kinds of cachers from your area. Some of them will become your best friends. Who knew! Some even meet, fall in Love, and get married - so good luck to you.
  10. All of the above, well except for finding swag. I already have enough stuff. * make new friends (should be added to the list) I can't believe how many wonderful friends I have made over these years of caching. If it weren't for geocaching I never would have met them. I also cache to get outside and do some hiking!
  11. We found 3 caches in Sitka in October when our ship anchored off shore. GCHRVA was close by and easy. GCJJA6 was difficult to find and not the best for small children. But, if one adult could stay with the children and one adult look for the cache in the rocks - it should work. It is not too far of a walk from the dock and an interesting area. GCHPWG was a longer walk into town. We didn't find it right away, but a Fireman came out and pointed us in the right direction. In Alaska it seems everyone knows about the caches and are glad to help. Alaska's Muggles are the best!
  12. It's almost too hard to list just a few. Of the ones still active - here are a few I have great memories of during my 7 yrs of caching. Day of the Dead GCF260 The Pipeline* GCC516 Co-Pilot's Log GCHPPF GC12 5/12/2000 GC12 Crack of the Gods GCKZM8 (but it is across the river in Washington) This one for the difficulty, but more important the great group of cachers that went on the adventure together!
  13. We're staying at the Holiday Inn in Issaquah. They gave us the group discount. I know there are others staying at the Hilton in Issaquah. They are also giving a group discount. I gave up my reservations at the Falls City Inn, as they were too pricey.
  14. You might want to contact Hams2x, Hamsx2, INVERTEDVEE, and Sandy Hams. I think they will be in attendance and are Ham Radio people.
  15. If it actually went to a hearing - wouldn't it be fun to have a courtroom full of local cachers, showing their support of geocaching.
  16. We were pleased to find another cacher on our ship last September. She participated in the same treasure hunt game on the ship. So we became partners for the game. She was with her family who don't usually cache. We found caches at each of the ports o' call, including Victoria, BC. While at a cache in Victoria, we met cachers from the other ship that was in port.
  17. Geocaching began in Clackamas County, which is just outside of Portland. You will want to visit the very first cache site. Check out GCGV0P & GC92. If you do, you might as well visit my Viola School GC1ACKH. Milo McIver State Park is not too far away. It does have camping and you will need reservations. In the state park there are a number of easy caches. I hope you enjoy your trip to the NW!
  18. Yep, I'm booked on an Alaska cruise in September. We have already checked out what caches are available within walking distance of each port. I also had wondered about a cruise specific for cachers. Wouldn't that be one heck of a fun mega event!
  19. Lately I am seeing inconsistency with how new caches are being rated for their terrain level. What currently qualifies for a rating of 1 vs 1.5? I know the original caches weren't rated. Then a rating system was put into place. Over the last few years I understood from the reviewers, that a cache qualified for a 1 rating if a person in a wheelchair could reach the cache. I have received a strong email from a newbie that was not happy with my 1.5 rating, as they had to go down a trail and would get their good shoes dirty. They insisted at the least my cache should be rated a 2 or 2.5. The last 2 days I have looked for caches rated with a terrain of 1, yet neither cache could be reach from sitting in a wheelchair. Just curious what the current qualifications are for the various terrain ratings? p.s. what about all of the challenge caches being given a 4 or 5 terrain rating, when to get to the cache it is relatively easy. I think someone is just looking for caches to fill out their fizzy grid.

    bookmarks help

The bookmark seems to be listing all of the caches now - so there must have been a delay for some reason. Not sure why it took so long before all of the caches would show onto the bookmark. I am still curious if there is a limit to how many caches can be added to a bookmark.

    bookmarks help

I just edited an existing bookmark. It won't show me all of the caches I added to it. So I went back to the cache page and tried to add the bookmark again. I get the message "This bookmark already exists for this list. You can edit the existing bookmark or choose another list." When I click on the link to edit bookmark - the cache isn't listed. I even logged out of website and back in - didn't make any difference. The bookmark shows 30 entries, but if you count each cache there are only 29. Is there a limit on how many caches can be on a bookmark? I would like my bookmark to have 33 caches.
  22. LSwandering, Crescent Moon and I have our reservations made for an Alaskian Cruise for the Inside Passage, during 7 days, mid-Sept '09 out of Seattle. None of us have traveled to Alaska before, so we are checking that state off our list, and as we are all cachers we plan to find at least a few caches in each port. If we can manage an excursion besides caching, that will be an extra bonus. We love to explore local areas by visitng caches, which so often take you to historic sites and wonderful parks. I am hoping we could post somewhere on the ship that we would like to meet other cachers. It will be my first cruise, I'm looking forward to seeing Alaska and adding another state to my list.
  23. It isn't necessarily someone who even logs into geocaching.com. It could be a local who knows about the cache spot and repeatedly stops by to take any container. We have a difficult time keeping a container at the Original Stash Tribute Plaque cache. Sometimes it only lasts a few weeks and all of the trackables in it go missing. But, so many people log the cache we hate to not have a container there. We bike locked the ammo can to a tree and they took the bottom of the can and left the lid that was locked to the tree. Team 360 is working on some kind of one piece container or a welded lid - so the entire thing could be padlocked. But, they could still stop by and take everything inside. Life isn't perfect when we have to live in a muggle world. At one of my caches it went missing shortly after I had hidden it. So I figured it wasn't the best hiding spot. I changed the cache to a micro - hidden in a different spot. The cache is in a State Park that lots of people visit, so they appreciate having a cache there, even if it is a micro. It is in a high muggle area, so that is about the best we can do to keep a cache at that spot. I'm sorry your caches go missing
  24. Thank you so much - this is the info I needed. I am heading out to the beach, so will see what it says, which should be a few feet not 4900'.
