  1. YES! My husband and I care most about place souvenirs, states, countries, territories. It's hard to find them in all the random souvenirs that were earned because I found a cache on a given day. I didn't know you could ask for them to be deleted. That is something I might do. I am really not motivated to cache for the current Mythical Creatures souvenirs. I really am trying to avoid getting them, but hey, some days you gotta cache. I would love to be able to sort them!!!
  2. I would assume they were just there when it was hidden, signing the log as an assistant, so I'd claim FTF for myself. And I'd continue to pretend to believe that even after they told me otherwise. I have thought of that. I usually wait until I'm home to log, but thought I should log in the field today since time was a factor. I would consider the first to sign, the first to find. I don't think there are any internet reservations on FTF.
  3. That's him! He was a pleasure to meet and talk to about caching here and there.
  4. Agreed! I'm much more into a "friendly rivalry" than all-out aggressiveness.
  5. I love those! I might have to find an excuse to head over that way, maybe a visit to the Air Force Museum.
  6. There's no grid for this, but I met a man from Australia at a local event. He was in town for another function. He said he was participating in a challenge to find caches that have sat unfound the longest. Then they add up the lapsed times from one cache to another for a total. So, if he finds a cache that hasn't been found and logged in a year, then another that hasn't been found in 6 months, he is credited with a year and a half and he builds on that. I think that's a great idea. I think he said he's up to 40+ years.
  7. I guess I'm seeing that here too. In my area, there are seemingly fierce battles to get there first. These that were posted last night are still sitting mostly untouched and they are just in another part of town.
  8. Ok, that makes sense. Guess I have a ways to go on that, but I like the idea. Thanks for the help!
  9. I had such great replies to my first question, I'll post another. I see a lot of cachers refer to "filling out their grid". Is this another side-game? Are they trying to get a find in every quadrant of a grid they create of their local caches? Can anyone give an example of how you created your grid? Thanks, you all are awesome. I'm still a newbie, but I'm trying to learn fast.
  10. Thanks for your replies. We had an owner create about 9 new caches locally. They all got approved and posted last night, close to dark. This morning they were all still untouched. I ran to that part of town to get one. I did, so I can say I have a FTF. Dprovan, I like your point about running into other cachers. I know from some of the logs around here, it must get pretty competitive. I think I could enjoy that part as I get to know some of the locals.
  11. I have found a little banter in logs between cachers who know each other regarding getting the FTF on a new cache. Is being FTF just a personal satisfaction, or is there some incentive for it other than possibly having your caching (trail) name in the cache description? I've also noticed many cache owners leave a special find for the FTF, but a $2 bill doesn't seem like it would cause such a stir. Am I missing something? I don't see anything indicating First to Find stats in the profile info.
