  1. Yep, it happens always when trying to view a web page via GSAK commands ... all caches, GSAK thread on Geocaching.com... I'm not having problems with anything else on my laptop, but a Windows error isn't outside of the realm of possibility ... Anyone have any idea what this could be?
  2. I knew I was doing something wrong with that ... thanks! Any idea why I'm getting the browser error?
  3. Thanks again. I visited the GSAK forum but it seems a bit over my head. I'm still trying to figure out the basics ... forget about running macros at this time I do have a couple more problems now (Thanks for bearing with me) 1. My "caches not found" filter doesn't seem to work. In my database I have only one cache marked as found. The filter for "show found only" works fine (the one waypoint is displayed). However when I try to run the filter to display caches not found yet I get an error message: Filter contains no waypoints and will not be set ... and then the Filter defaults back to NONE Here are the screenshots 2. When I try to go to the web via GSAK, either by clicking the "go to GSAK forum" or "show online in browser" I get an error message: There was a problem sending the command" Here are the screenshots Have I done something to disable the main features of this program? Thanks again.
  4. Thanks again. FYI the reason I like to download waypoints from the GPS is because I occassionally will add a waypoint manually (to the GPS) and I'll want to get it into GSAK ... or when I find a cache, I'd like to update the status and the note on GSAK (e.g. what I took/left) by downloading it, rather than typing it. But that's ok, I don't need to do that I guess. Thanks again.
  5. All great - thank you! The only question I guess that is left unsanswered is this one: Every time I download the updated waypoints from GPSr to GSAK I end up with two of each instead of just the new ones...
  6. Thanks - I'm trying to figure everything out. I was a newbie in 2003, took a break, and just came back after a year and a half - stuff sure has changed around here, but I'm getting there
  7. Thanks for your prompt response. FYI: The example I originally gave you was for the sake of simplicity. I travel between three cities regularly and had databases for those three cities seperately. I accidently put caches for Albuquerque into a Cincinnati file and wanted to move them. That was the true purpose Just so I'm clear, GSAK does not have the functionality to update existing records? I have to manually re-download the gpx files? hehe, I like snobbery. Thanks And finally re: the downloaded waypoints from the last paragraphs of my original posts (I uploaded a bunch of waypoints to my GPS via GSAK yesterday...) I figured out what happened, but I still don't understand why. Here goes... Yesterday I added 15 GC waypoints to MSAK via GPX and uploaded them to my GPSr Left for the day and added two (2) waypoints manually to the GPS (not Geocaches, just waypoints) and edited one (1) of the GC waypoints I had downloaded when I found the GC. So today, I wanted to download the two (2) waypoints that I added manually to the GPS and the one (1) GC waypoint that I edited the notes on. Instead, it downloaded all 17 waypoints, creating 15 duplicates ... one would think when downloading waypoints from GPSr to MSAK, MSAK would say to itself, "hey, I've already got that waypoint, I don't need two of them" ... does it not work that way? Is there a setting that I need to tweak that says "don't download duplicate waypoints, only download new and edited ones?" Then I guess all that's left are these two original questions: where do I find intstructions on how to adjust the description data so the hint is displayed in the GPS note? Also, how do you use GSAK to export to a palm PDA In my split screen, the difficulty rating does not work. For instance, here's a copy and paste from one of the waypoint details in the offline database: HCPD 75th - Sittin' Near The Poole by Hamilton County Park District (%def/1) N39° 14.087 W84° 35.556 (WGS84) I have searched all of the files on my laptop for the string "%def" so I could replace it with "%dif" but can't find it. What file and line number will I find this variable so I can fix it? Thanks!
  8. I use the Monster Batteries ... In my vista they lasted about 2 hours. I just put them in this new GPSmap 60cs and according to my trip computer, it's been 8.5 hours so far ... I'm down to one bar now, but no battery warning, so we'll see what happens. MUCH better life than my Vista got.
  9. Aaah, silly me, I was looking for it in the "seach for caches" section.
  10. Hi there, I bought a new GPS (Garmin GPSmap 60cs) to replace an older model and downloaded GSAK to get things going on it. Working on a computer every day I figured I'd be able to manipulate the program easily but I was wrong. Here are a bunch of questions that I just can not figure out for the life of me... I found this statement in another thread re: the GPS's ability to save notes: Unfortunately this is all the explanation I found ... where do I find intstructions on how to adjust the description data so the hint is displayed in the GPS note? Also, how do you use GSAK to export to a palm PDA How do I move just one record from one database to another. For instance, if I create a "Caches Found" database, how do I move *just* the caches found into it without moving all 50 unfound waypoints along with it? Generally stuff like that is as simple as right-clicking on a record, then click "move to database X" How do you update GSAK records? E.g. how to download the newest "last found dates" ... new "last logs" ... etc. for waypoints already in GSAK In my split screen, the difficulty rating does not work. I uploaded a bunch of waypoints to my GPS via GSAK yesterday. Geocached, found 1, and added a couple of waypoints manually to the GPS. So today I downloaded waypoints from my GPS to GSAK so the waypoints I added would be on my laptop ... well, now the GSAK makes my eyes cross with confusion. Half of the "code" columns are now green (for placed, even though they were put into GSAK via GPX files), has question marks in the corresponding cache columns, last log columns are cleared, last found columns are cleared, and the container type columns are cleared - these are all waypoints I didn't do anything with whatsoever; then re: *one* cache that I found yesterday, I added a note to the GPS waypoint re: what we took, etc. Instead of updating that waypoint in GSAK after I downloaded all waypoints, it created another waypoint with the same coordinates - did not mark it as found (like it is in the GPS), and the waypoint name is the note that I added, rather than the name of the waypoint (says L: $1 T: TB, should say HCPD75tr And finally, at least for now, I see GPSr in almost every thread. What is that little r for? As long as I can remember we've called them GPS ... this r is throwing me off.
  11. I just ordered a Garmin GPSMap 60CS to replace my Etrex Vista today via Amazon for $419 ... no tax and free shipping ... Sams Club has it for $386 but shipping isn't free (none in local stores) and they tax you so it came out to about the same price. Can't wait!
  12. I have a regular vista (not the C). I don't know what Garmin claims on that, but with my rechargable batteries I get about 2 hours before the battery indicator comes on.
  13. >Nevermind, I saw the post about this below Where? I looked through all the posts in this forum but couldn't find where this was outlined. What was the subject line? >I guess this feature is a premium members only thing. I am a member and I don't seem to have the option of filtering queries ... when I do a search I can search by zip code and type of cache, but not by difficulty, if a TB is there, etc. If this functionality is there I would love to know where to find it!
