  1. Hey & maybe if the current administrations keeps creating regulations that continue to kill jobs we can all live in one big green utopia..... There won't be any power to run those electric cars but hey we can make them into art & support the humanities....
  2. Since there are no boating caches in my area I have been contemplating placing one in the Trinity river which is the main river in our county. But then this story popped up http://www.petersenshunting.com/2011/06/24/texas-sized-gator-killed-by-dallas-attorney/ Since this happened on the Trinity river real close to where i would be placing a boat cache I decided against it. No need to feed the gators w/ geocachers. I guess it would warrant maybe a higher terrain/difficulty rating. .
  3. I agree Knowschad..... Hank Aaron needs to get over the fact that Barry Bonds broke his home run record. It's just a game. Those purist hall of fame voters need to get over it as well......
  4. Maybe the foam on a Guinness that does not go over edge of glass..... I attributed that to walt in my last post by mistake.....sorry...
  5. For the team members that were actually at the cache location.
  6. Most people try to do things in life w/ integrity. So when most of us see cachers acting w/ no integrity we speak up. Does someone cheating in this particular hobby affect me? No, but I don't like liars & cheats & pointing that out let's others who are contemplating mimicking the particular slimy behavior that it will not go unnoticed.
  7. I don't think it is the smart phones or old timers vs newbies. I almost exclusively log all my caching activities via my iPhone. If I am out caching sometimes I log as I go or record notes in the notepad section of the app to use when logging later at home. Which ever way I choose to log I always think it is courteous to thank the cache owner for taking the time to place a cache for me to find. Tell them what kind of shape the cache is in & if there is any issues that may need to be addressed. I think many times (not always) the blank logs or four letter logs reflect the mind set of many people in our society that feel they are entitled to everything & their needs or desires are all that matter.
  8. As I am the head prosecutor in my county when one of the new rookie cops came upon me caching in a local park he said hi & asked what I was up to.... I told him I was taking pictures of the area where the confidential informant said he sold narcotics to him in preparation for the up coming grand jury that was investigating him.... After his face turned white & he sat there speechless for a few seconds I told him I was just joking & that I was out geocaching...
  9. $30 annual membership less than the cost of taking the family out to dinner one time. Geocaching an activity that does the following at least for me: 1. Allows me to teach my kids to use a technology in a real world application. In addition, that technology can fail when you need it and always good to have back up plan when it does. 2. To teach them to slow down and pay attention to their environment. 3. Learn about different plants, animals & insects in real time & not just from a book. 4. To be respectful of others property. 5. To have another great activity that makes them excited to get outside & be active. 6. But most of all making great memories spending time w/ my family doing something we all love to do. So for me even if they raised the current $30 annual fee I would gladly pay it.
  10. My wife went with her mother today to go shopping & came home with two ammo cans for me. . That is a great deal to me and she is not a cacher.
  11. A person comes up w/ a novel idea and through hard work and good decisions have built a great little company. From this novel idea they created jobs for people (that pay taxes) and for side companies they sale products associated w/ the hobby. All w/o the almighty federal governments help. Capitalism what a wonderful thing. Hard work makes good things happen. So however much they make I wish them the best. Live in mansions, drive expensive cars, or live like a miser it is none of my business nor anyone else's. Sorry for getting a little off topic.
  12. Since I cache w/ my young kids a lot I would not want to walk up on a pot smoker when looking for cache. Since I deal in the business of addressing the scourge that drugs cause to peoples lives and communities I guess my opinion is not so liberal. But to each his own. But don't be surprised when you engage in illegal activity that you may get acquainted w/ the criminal justice system.
  13. Finally got it unlocked. Thanks Great Scott for all the help.
  14. Do I have to load the maps on my Garmin before I do this? If yes can I load locked maps onto my Oregon 450t.
  15. It does not show any maps to unlock. How do I do from that page on the Garmin website? I really appreciate the help.
  16. Bought it from gander mountain today. Sent an email to support w/ details of problem. Tried the forgot username and password options separately w/ no luck. I have no problem logging into mygarmin Acct on Garmin website. It appears the issue is w/ the unlock wizard that came w/ software. I was just curious if anyone else had this problem and how it was resolved. Thanks for any help.
  17. Bought CN NA today on DVD. Popped in and installed as instructed. Next started the unlock process through the unlock wizard. When I arrived at the screen to put in mygarmin username & password I did as instructed. Then when I submit it says entered invalid username or password. I entered correct info and I am connected to Internet. Anybody have this problem before? Is there something I am missing or another way to unlock CN maps? Thanks for any help.
  18. The Cabelas' store in Fort Worth had eight in stock. Now only seven after my visit. . Got me a Birdseye satellite subscription w/ some of the money I saved. Excited to break it in.
  19. Been in market to upgrade my gps for geocaching. Was leaning toward Oregon 550, but I just saw the 450t on sale at cabelas for $299. From everything I have seen that appears to be a great price. Now may be willing to go with 450t. Camera on 550 is not essential to me. Going on vacation to New Mexico in a week and ready to pull the trigger on my upgrade. Is it worth going with the 450t at that price over the 550? Thanks for any input.
  20. I appreciate the replies and the advice.
  21. Using my old Garmin V now but upgrading to Oregon 550 or 550t. Just trying to decide on which one. Excited to get it and start caching with it.
  22. I know what the differences are I am just asking are the 100k topos on the 550t as good as the ones you can download for free or the 24 k topos you can buy and put on 550? Knew there would be some people with first hand knowledge that could opine. Have read the 100k topos on 550t are outdated somewhat.
