  1. (I approve of the earlier Ding. Sorry, I was stuck in Denmark)
  2. I've been visiting Scotland every other year since 2003 to combine a holiday with caching (and cache placing/maintenance) and I've hosted a few events along the way. From the original Remote event on St Kilda in 2007, to 2013's mainland Britain's most westerly, via Shetland in 2009, and Ben Nevis CITO, Eigg and a hunt for Britain's oldest cache in 2011, along with many others. The first published for my 2015 adventure is GC3TPPN: Yet Another Meet @ The Old Forge, Inverie Knoydart on Saturday July 11th. This will be my third event at mainland Britain's most remote pub (a boat-ride from Mallaig or a long walk across the mountains away) as it's a truly spectacular location. With a pub I hope you can join me for this and/or one, some or all of my other events planned across the Islands and Highlands this summer. It'd be great to have you along!
  3. Huh huh huh huh! Thanks. Sticking with Hanna-Barbera, name the four Banana Splits.
  4. Sadly it's beyond my budget I suspect, but is somewhere I'd love to climb. Please keep us informed of your plans on here (as well as a Facebook group or two, and perhaps the GAGB forums?)
  5. Seconded! I love the Hebrides (I own some caches on some of the inner ones, plus a cache on St Kilda) and will make good use of that site; thank you!
  6. I've sprinkled AANDs from Scotland to the Isle of Wight and the Channel Islands, and many points in between. I note when in my logs, and around 1000 were given away at various Mega events across 2012 - hopefully they found their way into caches and not just kitchen draws. The 2016 versions may not be aluminium, or discs, so I'm going to have to go back to Groundspeak to discuss their name!
  7. I liked the Triffid one in Newport. Great island to explore by bicycle (which was free to take over on the hovercraft )
  8. Write them a strongly-worded email of rebuke, rather than just berating them on a public forum would be my guess.
  9. http://coord.info/GC3RTYA seems to be the one, with a different slant on what happened...
  10. Sounds like either Dragon Hill in Oxfordshire, Coombe Hill in Bucks or Primrose Hill in London to me, but I'm clutching at straws really.
  11. Doc, Grumpy, Happy, Sleepy, Bashful, Sneezy, Dopey (Not in pictured order)
  12. Owners of caches over 10 years old - and especially anyone with a cache from 2003, 2002, 2001 or 2000 (just the one left in the UK) - may be interested in the rosette graphics from The Historic Geocaches, which can be added to the cache page to highlight it as an oldie (and hopefully, a goodie!)
  13. From the M40 to Ivinghoe Beacon there used to be a series of 30+ called the Ridgeway Run, which I set in 2004/5, but there's only one left. Doing a 'along a route' PQ is probably the easy way of getting a list now, but what happened to that GeoWalks website..? Am I misremembering the name? Could be GeoTrails, GeoRoutes..? That always had good lists and circular series.
  14. Ding! Yes, on the tiny Channel Island of Maîtresse (50x20m) on the Les Minquiers reef, south of Jersey has a (non-flushing at the time of my visit in 2010) loo at the edge of a 'village' of tiny stone cottages. A sign on the door reads "This Toilet has the distinction of being the most southerly building in the British Isles. Use with care..."(By Britain I meant the British Isles rather than Great Britain - the island [disused lifeboat station, or small shop on Lizard Point] - or British Overseas Territories [not actually part of Britain, just under its control], etc. Sorry for the confussion.) Over to Yorkshire Yellow!
  15. Thanks for that. I was there recently. It was cold. My question: What's the function of Britain's most southerly building?
  16. Killed the policeman. They were at the west end of Westminster bridge, close to the clocktower for Big Ben. I'll say Wolverhampton for the more modern lights, as I know it had the first Zebra Crossing in Britain. The poles now at the site have the old-fashioned black and white markings as a little nod to this.
  17. Here's a link to one of the archived caches. They all got the chop in December. When I'm up there in July I hope to speak to SNH again about replacing them, or at least picking up the remains to avoid geolitter. Have a great trip.
  18. Thanks Jen, that's appreciated. There will be more news coming on it soon
  19. This is a useful UK/RoI Mega Event listing from the GAGB. It's not included, but the Geolympix 2016 Facebook group is Facebook.com/groups/geolympix2016.
  20. And I think I recognise your dog sheltering from the sun (who'd have expected it to be 28deg?) at the N71 11' 08'' marker. Glad you like the photos
  21. If this trip piqued your interest, there's now a book of my trip with lots of photos from caching locations: http://www.blurb.co.uk/books/5867867-eternal-sunshine-of-the-spotless-north (Not a retail posting. Please don't try to buy a copy; it's not really for sale)
