  1. There wasn't a swell of enthusiasm for the APE trip, and the with sad death of its owner, some question over the cache's future. I'd be very reticent to organise (with probable financial exposure) a large-scale trip to it without Groundspeak confirming it's safe, and fine, and the icon will live on - rather than being killed-off, as they have with every other Grandfathered cache type (you can't adopt Virtuals or Webcams, for example). I'm glad you're keeping an eye on it though, and never say never...
  2. If budgets would allow! I thought 71deg 11.111' was pretty good last year, but I see this is just chicken-feed really! I'm also thinking of something warmer having just experienced July in Scotland (my feet are now webbed) but the links are appreciated; thank you!
  3. Another awesome suggestion - thank you HH! When I get my plans together, I'll post links here. Open to more Remote/Extreme suggestions in the meantime
  4. A big big shame, but as your log said, a legend is born! I hope to place a cache 'in the vein of' Tin Pan Alley and link to it. I encourage others to do the same, where possible. Thanks again for a fun cache. One of those FPs was mine
  5. Portugal eh? Interesting. I've only been to Madeira (BC) so it is a gap on my map. Thanks for the suggestion
  6. As you may know, in the past I've run nine "Britain's most remote" events. Those being 2015's on Mull, 2014 on Jersey, 2013 on Skye (a non-event!), 2012 on Bryher IoS, 2011 on Eigg, Small Isles, 2010 south of Jersey, 2009 on Unst, Shetlands, 2008 on St Agnes, IoS and 2007 on St Kilda in the outer, outer Hebrides. In 2014 I also held Mainland Europe's most Northerly meet in Norway. For the tenth incarnation of this event series, I want to push the boat out - perhaps literally. I'm considering returning to the Isles of Scilly (visited 2008/12) but perhaps the tenth deserves something a bit more... ambitious? So, would anyone be interested in i) Suggesting somewhere suitable (not Scotland though) ii) Going to Gavdos, south of Crete - recognised as Europe's most southerly point - for a cache event? I'm looking at early July so I'm home in time for the Geolympix at the end of the month. Also, an early heads-up: For 2017 I'm considering returning to St Kilda for an anniversary visit, while also seeing Barra, the Uists etc. There's two caches out there now, including one I've not found/set
  7. Little bump to say Frolf has been added to the Launch Picnic plan for later this month. Frolf? you may well ask. Also known as Frisbee or Disc Golf...
  8. Well then. i) They're delicious. ii) As camp guard dogs (as in dogs guarding a camp...) iii) For warmth and 'comfort'. iv) For stereotypically waving in surrender. v) They attract feas away from the soldiers.
  9. Since it's exactly a month away, here's the details of the Geolympix Launch Picnic - complete with Frolf, so bring a frisbee: 2-4pm, Sunday July 26th at Ashridge Estate (free entry, parking, loos, etc, plus a NT monument to climb, caches to find, cafe etc) north of Berkhamsted in Herts. Handy for the M25 (J20, A41) and M1 (J8-11), or 1 3/4 mile walk from Tring Station, it's at the venue for the Geolympix next year: GC5WW4G It'll also be the unveiling of the Geolympix Roadshow stand, complete with some surprise additions to our plans, before it goes off to the Essex Mega (Aug 1st) and then on tour.
  10. I'm thinking the Sherman Brothers, but was that just Mary Poppins?
  11. Ha! I'd not spotted that. Yes, you're right. Ah well. Lots of other chances for D and/or T of 5 caches in the Highlands. I will need to plan ahead though - thanks for the reminder
  12. Geolympix Mega: Ashridge 2016 Accept the Challenge! Announced on Twitter and Facebook earlier, the venue for the second Geolympix Mega (Fri 29 to Sun 31 July 2016) is the Ashridge Estate nr Berkhamsted, Herts. It's a free-to-enter National Trust property which is home to one of the 10 oldest caches in Europe, the UK's oldest Puzzle/Mystery and many other excellent caches. There's a launch picnic event coming there soon. More details to follow...
  13. I didn't find a single bad cache on Shetland when I was up there in 2009. Have a great trip! Edit: Not sure if there's a cache there, but I did the evening/night trip to Mousa to see the Brock there. A magical trip.
  14. (Alan Bean and Pete Conrad on Apollo 12, AS and Edgar Mitchell on 14, James Irwin and Scott something/something Scott on 15, Charles Duke and John Young - who also flew the Shuttle - on 16 and EC and Harrison 'You Don't Know' Schmitt on 17.)
  15. A bump for these as July is surprisingly close now and I'd *really* like to beat the three cachers I had at both the 2011 and 2013 Old Forge, Inverie, Knoydart meets! I don't mind an exclusive event, but company is nice
  16. Not a UK/Ireland Mega/Giga, but not that far away so may be of interest, come July: Géolympiades - Lapalud, Vaucluse, Provence, France. Why does that name seem weirdly familiar?
  17. The Old Forge is technically on the mainland, west of Fort William, so isn't especially far down. A train goes to Mallaig, and a £20 return boat fare gets you to Knoydart - and back. My last Scottish event further north - on Applecross in 2013 - only I managed to attend but perhaps locals were busy that day! I'd like to get up beyond Ullapool or over to Inverness but will struggle to fit anything north of Portree into my travel plans this time There's always 2017, when I expect to be back. Then I hope to visit some more remote islands - the Uists, Barra, Coll & Tiree - and perhaps get further north again too.
  18. Thanks Original A1. Yes and no. I updated the cache page a few days ago as I'd been misinformed. You're quite right about Lomond. However, there's only one Munro on Mull - or any island other than Skye in fact - and Ben More is it. Sorry for my mistake! It'd be great to have you (and your Drudge) along Finlay! Another update on my July plans: Added to the above, Monday 20th - The Castle Aaargh! Your Quest is at an End. A meet overlooking Castle Stalker, as seen at the end of Monty Python and the Holy Grail. There's an option to go inside too (tour starts at 8.30am, at a cost) if anyone wants to, but it must be prebooked via the castle's site. Also, Deeper Underground (Cumbria) on Wednesday July 22nd at Cathedral Cavern, a disused quarry near Slaters Bridge, Little Langdale. I've always wanted to host an underground event and this location offers easier access and more impressive visuals than most!
  19. An update on this: I've added two further events to my summer caching plans. The 9th Most Remote event, on top of the most southerly Munro - Ben More on Mull - and a few days later, a meet at the most southerly point of Scotland. Saturday 11th, http://coord.info/GC3TPPN - Yet Another Meet @ The Old Forge, Inverie Knoydart. Saturday 18th, http://coord.info/GC5T16J - 100 Not Out/Britain's 9th Most Remote Event (Mull). Tuesday 21st, http://coord.info/GC5N6R0 - Scotland's Most Southerly Event. I've a couple more ideas in mind - hope you can join me in the Highlands & Islands this July!
  20. The weekend after the 2016 Geolympix. Excellent! Pencil me in for an Attend as I love the area.
