  1. Ha, I was just cleaning out my basement and found my Geocoins from 2003 to 2005. Wow the old coins were so primitive. I have 8 geocaching.com Oregon coins from 2004. Brass and starting to tarnish. I found two Joy of caching coins from geocachetreasures.com. I think 2003 or 2004 wi.th the certificate of authenticity in original bag. A geocaching.com 2003 coin with an American flag on the back in the original bag with activation code and tracking number. At at one point I was a member of pdxgeocaching.com. The members pitched in enough orders to mint the 2005 pdx coin. First colored coin I had seen at the time. It’s beautiful. I had 10 of them and have 8 left that is still sealed and never opened. I think they were tracked on the website that does not exist. May trade some in the future. When I ordered the joy of caching coins I could have bought green man but I thought the joy of caching would be more rare. Boy I was wrong. Wish I ordered one of each. Brings back memories. Thanks for posting. -Jon
  2. geosym. Thank you for the great pictures of that stone. Awesome. -Jon
  3. Kent. Thank you very much. This is exactly what I am looking for. Spoo did a wonderful job. Thanks, -Jon
  4. A few years ago there was a great thread on here for someone that made their own benchmark. I can't find it (can you direct me to it)?. I would like to make my own and was wondering if anyone had the thread or any ideas and examples of their own creations. Where to purchase blank markers (Like the USGS ones). Cost??? Thank you.
  5. Any Oregon Benchmark hunters out there? What are the oldest benchmarks in Oregon that still can be found? Thanks, -Jon
  6. Sorry for the really late reply. I have the answer to the original question. I took that photo of the witness post you reference (I sent it to dustyjacket). Kewaneh & Shark were right on. This is an Oregon thing. I found the benchmark that went with this post. I don't know how to upload the photo of it though. E-mail me and I can send it if any one wants. The benchmark is labled "Oregon State Highway Division" "Bench Mark" The number is: F672. It is dated 1972. This one was located on highway 26 at Jackson School road. -Jon pl8s4jon
  7. Not sure if this has been posted before but I found the following link that had some miniature benchmarks reproduced that are one inch in diameter. I'm not associated with the selling of them but thought they would be of interest to others. Perhaps Christmas or birthday gifts for those that have everything. Here is the site. http://www.theparksco.com/parks_catalog/se...ns&sku=GEO+1010 PL8S4JON
  8. Here is the message I received from Bazzle today. The minimum order is 250. We have met that and are awaiting permission from Groundspeak, we must ask them every time we order because their logo is on the coin. There is no minimum for individuals such as yourself, only for the big order to go to Pressed Metal. If you would like some you can still get in on the order I am currently putting together. They will be between $2.00 and $2.25, exact price will depend on the shipping cost for the order and the US/Canadian exchange rate on the day the order is place. All orders will need to be pre-paid via Paypal or some other arrangement. Please let me know how many you would like and watch the PDXGeocaching forums on www.pdxgeocaching.com for threads with final pricing info once I receive the permission from Groundspeak.
  9. I am seriously contemplating setting up my first Cache. I am intrigued by the geo coins and am ordering some to put in my Cache. I am wondering if there would be better luck in putting the geo coin in a cache that is for members only with the requirement that the coin goes to another members only cache. I know that members only does not guarantee anything but I think it cuts out a bunch of pirates who look for them for free and there may be a little more integrity in moving them along. Any thoughts or experiences with member only caches and if this may be more successful? -Jon
  10. This is my first post and I am new to benchmark hunting. I am also not sure how to post a picture so may need some help with that. Anyhow, in doing some research, I came accross an 8" by 7" cloth that says: United States Coast And Geodetic Survey This signal is the property of the United States. All persons visiting it are repectfully requested and warned not to interfere with it or disturb its adjustment. R.S. PATTON, Director At the bottom of this cloth is "Form 51" "U.S. Government Printing office: 1934 Is has some rust stains on it like it has been stapled to a tree or board. It is very thin and fragile. I am wondering if this is similar to a witness post sign? Perhaps a temporary one while they were surveying. Any ideas? I can send photos if you would like. In addition, I found an unused "Report on Condition of Bench Mark" card and original mailing envelope. Its dated 1935 as well. I guess that was the way the reported recovery way back then. Neat items. I just nead help with the witness cloth and its use. Thanks, -Jon pl8s4jon@hotmail.com
