  1. Once published is there a way to tell Premium from non-Premium caches? I don’t see anything on a given cache’s page that tells me one way or the other.
  2. I made my Adventure Lab public a few days ago and two people have completed it commenting that it was well done. But when you open the Adventure Lab web site my cache has a gear-like icon in the pin. What does this mean?
  3. Only once so far. It was a little east of Nashville. I had seen a police car pull in and take a look at my car, but then he left. When I returned after finding the cache that I was after and had just driven off two police cars pulled in behind me with lights flashing. I did have to explain what Geocacing was and they seemed satisfied. They explained to me that where I had parked my car was a favortie spot for stolen car drop offs. As someone else said, its good to know that the police really are keeping their eye on what is happening on the local scene.
  4. Please add me to the list. 50 million Geocachers can't be wrong!!
  5. Mine came back with a new serial number too. I can't be sure if everything was new. although I know that the lanyard was the same.
  6. I promised tht I'd let everyone know how I made out with sending my Legend back for servicing. Having gotten an RMA # without any problem, I put my Legend in the mail at 1PM on Wednesday and requested delivery tracking from the post office. It arrived at Garmin by 9 AM on that Friday. It was back in my hands by the following Thursday looking brand new and working like its old reliable self!! Thanks Garmin.
  7. In response to the e-mail that I had sent to Garmin on Sunday, they e-mailed me an RMA # without question. However, I had spoken directly to Tech Support early on Tuesday morning and was given a RMA # from them, also without any problem. The person I spoke with first had me try the Master Reset sequence but when that didn't solve the problem he immediately gave me a number. They said that I should expect to get the unit back within two weeks of when they get it.
  8. Thanks for the replies. I will be calling Garmin tomorrow (Tuesday, June 1). I will let you know how I make out with getting the problem resolved.
  9. Here in Central New York State there is a group called "Save the County" which oversees the management of various parcels that have been donated. The parcels consist of march lands, wooded lots, and other natural areas. I contated the STC board via their web page and asked if it would be okay to place caches on any of the STC properties. After inquiring as to what Geocaching was about the board approved three properties for Geocaching with the provision that the person (steward) who had direct responsibility for a given property be contacted to see if there were any aite specific restrictions. Actually one steward made it clear that she did not want any caches placed on her area. Other stewards welcomed the placement of caches. Now that the first two caches have been in place for a few months, the STC board approved three more sites with the same request that the individual property stewards be contacted. The STC board has expressed a great pleasure with Geocaching s there has been an increased visitation to their properties and even some new memberships for STC generated by Geocaching.
  10. I tried the Master Reset. It did delete the information that was in the unit and the display held for awhile. However, as soon as I tried using the Zoom In / Zoom Out buttons it went to "bar code" display. I guess I'll wait until Tuesday to talk with the Garmin people. Hopefully they can tell me how to correct it or get a new unit. It is still within the warranty period (just).
  11. While out chasing down a few cache sites our Legend unit suddenly malfunctioned. It was working fine, and has for almost a year. After tracking the road on the map screen to our second cache of the day I put the unit on the trunk of our car while I put on my backpack. When I picked the unt up and went to change the screen it went to a "bar code-like" display. It had not been dropped or had any other type of abuse. I turned the unit off then back on - no help. Checked the batteries, they were good. Changed the batteries - no help. Moved to a new location (thinking it might be interference from power lines or a GPS signal "black hole") - no help. Has my Legend died or are there any other suggestions as to what may be the problem. I've already sent an e-mail to the Garmin support center but being a holiday weekend, they won't get back to me to me before Tuesday at the earliest.

    Team Name

I understand that a team name and login can be changed. Will ALL logged caches, travel bugs, and watched caches be changed as well?
  13. I had a run of DNFs with one particular cache. Others seem to find it with ease. However, after three or four attempts I still didn't find it even though my GPS the hints put me within two feet of what I'm sure was the right location. Now I see that the cache has been archived as it really must be missing. The cache is in Central Park in New York City - "Imagine". I was able to find every other cache located in the park over the course of several business trips to the city. Maybe next year it will have been re-established and I'll my luck again.
  14. Thanks for the replies. 1) I knew that I had already found the one cache that I checked out that was grayed, but did not realize that that is what it meant. There was nothing that I saw on the Cache FAQs or other pages that explained it. 2) I'll try contacting the TB owner.
  15. 1) I have picked up a TB and am holding on to it as I will taking a trip in three weeks and will be able to get the TB out of this area. Its bounced around here for sometime. How long is it acceptable to hang on to a TB? 2) On the cache listing page what does it mean when the whole listing for a cache is "grayed out", not crossed out, and there is an "X" in the box next to the cache symbol?
  16. My daughter just purchased one of those one strap back packs at Old Navy. It came with a cell phone "holster" that you could take off and put on your belt. Its the perfect size for my Legend. Since she doesn't have a cell phone she gave it me. Its headed for the field today. You can always use a back pack for Geocaching if you don't have one already. So you might get a good twoferone. I think she paid on the order of $10 - $15.
  17. I was able to have the $20 rebate applied to my purchase of the Legend - so my final price will be $126.87 !!! To team shibby, the Garmin coupon expires JULY 6 not June 6 (7/6/03 not 6/6/03) and it has to be postmarked by Augusst something. Thanks for your concern and warning but there is more time for that coupon.
  18. Well, I've ordered the Legend through Staples. Unfortunately, the extra $50 coupon from Staples had expired LAST week, not on the 31st. They did match the Amazon price. So after I send in the Garmin coupon, I'll end up paying $146.87. Not bad from the list price of $268. I've since learned that there may still be a $20 coupon from Staples. If I can have that applied, I'll consider this an EXCEPTIONAL DEAL, not just a Great Deal!! Thanks again to everyone who responded.
  19. Thanks all for your comments. I'll be headed off to Staples tomorrow on my lunch hour to check out that great deal!!
  20. Thanks for your thoughts. I was leaning towards the Legend. With the rebate I can get it for ~$220. The Venture is about $170 fro a local sporting goods store
  21. We're new to Geocaching - last weekend was our first. I was able to borrow an eTrex Vista from work and had great success, 10/10. Would like to buy a GPS unit for ourselves but don't want to spend the $300+ (even with Garmin's $50 coupon offer)for a Vista. Anyone have thoughts on the eTrex Legend or Venture units? I don't want to go down to the Geko level.
  22. Thanks. This was my first weekend of geocaching and I'm getting used to the options on the web page.
  23. I'm new to this and have a question of logging a visit. I've gone to the log a visit page for a found cache site, clicked on "Found it" and then typed in a comment, followed by "Submit... " When I go back to the cache page, my visit is listed but there are the highlighted and bold notes saying (EDIT) (DELETE), or (PERMANENTLY ENCRYPT). These aren't shown on other person's log notes. Why are they on mine? What should I be doing on the log visit page?
