  1. I have contacted the owner before and have redeived hints that have helped. What really seems to work for me is having a different pair of eyes with me. There was a cache in my neighborhood I went to 3 different times and was unable to find. I brought my daughters the 4th time and my youngest found it as soon as we walked up. Sometimes I get too focused on the title or the clue and forget that the GPS is only accurate to about 20-30 feet and that I have to expand my search area. Hope this helps.
  2. That is what I needed. Thanks and my daughters say thanks.
  3. I am a premium member. My daughters and I go geocaching together. They have created their own user names but are not premium members. How can they get credit for a find if they are unable to access a premium members page? They sometimes find the cache before I do.
  4. You want to purchase "City Navigator North America NT V8" on a DVD with a 2g memory card. The V8 stands for 2008 edition. The cheapest place to this, recommended from Garmin, is Amazon.com. Garmin Part Number: 010-10816-00. The NT version is just compressesd to a version that is better suited for your device. You could purchase the non-NT version but I am not sure how it will affect the memory of your unit. Meaning that the way some software is compressed iwill equal different memory capacity. Here is what could happen but am not sure. Map of California in NT might utilize 100 mb of memory on your memory card. Map of California in non NT version might utilize 200 mb of memory on your storage card. This means you will not be able to put as much information onto your memory card with the non NT version of the mapping software. The best resource in my opinion is to talk to the Garmin Tech Support. They will give you all the information you need.
  5. I also have the 60CSX and love it. I purchased the City Navigator 2008 NT for driving and it works great. The only thing it doesn't do like the car ones is give you traffic updates. As for the car charger, I have a motorola phone and its car charger works on the GPS unit so I didn't have to purchase that. The only real advantage of the street mapping software is that it can get you to the cache location without looking it up on a map and once you get close you recalculate the location for off road and then use the compass to get you to the cache while waliking. Hope this helps..
  6. I have not experienced any problems with the map feature. I utilize windows XP SP2 on my HP laptop and use Avant Browser, very similar to IE but not the issues with it, or I run Safari from Apple, also no problems. I also have an apple desktop that runs Safari with no problems. Hope this helps...
  7. My daughters and I have been geocahing for about 4 months now. We get most of our finds. We are sticking mostly to traditional caches until we get a little more comfortable with hides and locations. We have already found many different hiding locations that we wouild have never expected. We have also learned to read the title and description thouroughly. We also translate any foreign language titles because we learned from one that gave a good description of the cache, we couldn't find it. We went home and translated the title, which was in spanish, and it actually gave the clue to the location of the find. I have also found that the people that hide the cache's will give you clues if you are unable to find their cache. I have asked for help on a couple of the caches. My daughter's and I are more than willing to go out with someone but we are still new to it ourselves. Good luck, Paul
  8. We are new to it also. My daughters and I are working towards our 100th find. We bring items with us to trade just in case they find something they like. We don't always take something and sometimes we leave something without taking anything just to add to the cache for others to find. But like the others are stating, my daughters get a bigger kick out of the hunt and find of the cache itself not what's inside. They like all of the different sizes, colors, locations, etc. This to me is the fun part.
  9. I have a 60csx and utilize TOPO U.S. 2008 and City Navigator North America NT v8. I am also new to this whole thing but these two programs work very well. I called Garmin and spoke to their tech support to get the proper software for what I wanted to do. I purchased my software from Amazon.com.
  10. I have a 60csx with City navigator, topo 2008 and the base maps waypoint manager v4. With the first two programs I am able to utilize the map tool icon to cover an area I want to add to my garmin, its the icon right next to the magnifying glass icon. But in the waypoint manager I can't highlight or modify my maps at all because this is a waypoint "managing" program. Your unit should have some type of base mapping software installed onto it. You can move waypoints or geocaches from the manager to your gps and vica versa. If you want greater detailed maps than I think you need to purchase some type of mapping software. I spoke to Garmin tech support befor I bought my unit to find out exactly what it can do and what I planned to do and they recommended what software I would need and even suggested purchasing from Amazon at a cheaper price. Good luck
  11. I also have a 60csx and utilize both those programs on my unit. The exact versions you want are TOPO U.S. 2008 and City Navigator North America NT v8. I have all of California on my unit because I used it to travel from No Cal to So Cal recently and it was fantastic. The City Navigator can give you exit locations, restaurants, gas stations, etc as you are driving. I have them on a disk and loaded them onto a 2gb micro card. Initially my unit came with a 128 mb card, which was fine for my home county, but when I added all of California it wasn't big enough.
  12. DNF = Did Not Find I too am fairly new and have several of these so far
