  1. It says the oregon 450 can take 5000 caches. The maximum in a pq is 1000. If I put 5 different pq's into it will it recognize all of them and if I am near a cache would I see it on the map which ever pq it is in?
  2. OK went geocaching today and it really does work well very stable and accurate. After we found a few we suddenly discovered how to mark them as found. Next time out we will start making notes at each cache site. Got home, logged our caches, read very carefully what everyone is saying and deleted everything turned it on turned it off twice plugged it back to the pc and using a different browser (firefox instead of rockmelt) and drag and dropping instead of cut and paste and WOW it actually worked. Deleted it and placed it in 3 times just to make sure. The fourth time didnt work but two more tries did work. It is the way it is unzipped and instead of saving the file when I download it I will now open it in window explorer. It is even working on the card and showing caches on the cache button. At last I can move on, is there a way you can upload your finds without logging them one by one. PS I am soo happy now Team Birdaholic.
  3. I have loaded a heap of caches in one by one and want to test it tomorrow (saturday) before I delete it all and start over. Will work on it Sunday and let you know what happens. I really do appreciate all your help. Thanks Team Birdaholic (Barry)
  4. I went to the garmin site looking for updates for the software and it said it was fully updated. The pc runs windows 7. The single files are loaded to the device/garmin/gpx which is where I put the pq. I tried putting a file one at a time that didnt work then I started putting them in everywhere. There is a write up on wiki which seemed very easy to follow but this one doesnt do it. I am wondering if the gps itself is faulty and not reading the pq.
  5. OK here is where we are up to - I just deleted all gpx files from the card and the gps. I copied the gpx file of the pq I down loaded last night. I pasted them to E/garmin/gpx (card). Disconnected the gps from pc and turned it on and pressed the geocaching button it said there were not caches available. Pressed the go to button and waypoints were not listed in the drop down list. Plugged it back to the pc and copied the same file to D/garmin/gpx/. There is also a folder named current which was empty so I put a copy in here as well. Disconnetted the pc turned on the gps and pressed the geocaching button, it still says there are no caches available. I pressed the where to button and waypoints are now listed selected this and there are all my caches. What the hell am I doing wrong here? ADD I just deleted everything again and used mapsource and they still only show as waypoints but if I put them in one by one they go to the geocaching button. 2nd ADD I have just put in 60 caches one at a time and it works perfectly, for some reason it it not recognizing the PQ
  6. Yes I am unzipping them and with my old garmin (76csx) I always deleted the waypoints. but this time I loaded them both into the same folder nothing
  7. OK so that didnt work either put the pq in every folder but cant access it with the geocaching button. I sent one cache to the gps and it worked fine. I can send them one by one and it works all ok.
  8. Thankyou this is what I was not doing. Will check it right now.
  9. Yes it was GPX files allright I checked it many times
  10. Just bought a oregon 450. went through the manuals and set it up put a card in it and now when I put a PQ in it by sending to drive/garmin/gpx which I read on the wiki write up and when I turn the device on and press the geocaching button it says there are no caches avalaible, but when I press the where to button and select waypoints all the caches are there. I also sent it to the card but the same things happens. Do I need to make a folder on the card to put them in? Also the pc does not recognize the card but sees the garmin. Is it possible that the contacts are not a tight fit and not working properly and the card does seem loose in its holder. Any advice would be really great. Thanks Team Birdaholic.
  11. It seems strange that no-one has mentioned "mobile PC". This is a garmin product and good for in the car use to see an area around you so you dont miss any caches in an area. It will get you as close as you can drive then you walk with the handheld.
  12. I used to go to a cache and cllick on the big map and it would show caches around that area. Is this function now not availabe? If so why?
  13. Thankyou soooo much. That actually got rid of them. I placed the card back in and reinstalled them and one has a different name than whats on the card, but thats acceptable. Thankyou so much.
  14. After connecting your Nuvi to your computer, start the POI Loader program. After the page where it recognizes that the Nuvi is connected, there is a choice to delete all user installed custom POIs. I did that once and nothing happened so I did it five consecutive times and still I have seven poi folders with everything in them. Thats not working. Maybe it would work if I had only one folder and it was named POI but I have caterogized many poi in different folders and renamed them!!
  15. My nuvi 265 wt has caches in favorites. All other stuff is in various poi files. Although the poi's are on a card I got sick of it asking me if I wanted to install them incase the card is not there one day and I clicke yes. Now I cant delete the poi's from the nuvi. (I will still have them on the card). The help file says to delete user material press and hold the bottom right of the screen and turn it on. i did this and it reset everything to factory settings but did not delete the caches in favourites or the poi's. Does anyone know how to delete the poi's. Thankyou.
  16. I have a watchlist called TRAVELBUGS. When a bug is placed in a cache I put that cache on the watchlist. When the bug us retrieved I take the cache off the watchlist. What more do we really need?
  17. On geocaching.com it says I found 11 caches. I have only found 9 but twice I had to log in twice cause I forgot to make note of the trackable I left in them. Is there a way to manually fix it so the number is accurate? Just go to the cache page that has two found logs and delete one. If you do this on each cache that has two finds then the count will be corrected.
  18. I use an Acer 9 inch screen laptop in the car. Great for seeing the big picture. Fitted with mobile pc and all the caches loaded you can see whats around you better than a mobile gps. All jeeps have a 120 volt plug so power is not a problem for us. I have never carried it out on the trail though, it is left in the vehicle when we hike (out of site of course). With satellite internet you can get updated info if needed.
  19. I was a muggle once. Where I worked I noticed people go to a lampskirt and lift it up and get something, write something and put it all back. After seeing this a few times I decided to see what they were up to. I found a film cannister with some paper in it and a lot of strange names. The next one I saw I asked what they were doing and they explained about geocaching. I looked it up on the net and the rest is history. I guess the moral of this is that not all muggles are bad.
  20. If you put a place mark at the co-ordinates of the cache then you will see how far off the cache is. Your place mark will be where the cache reallly is.
  21. We have a shredder and did one single sheet of paper and have enough logs to last the rest of our lives for many nano's.
  22. If we are not allowed ot look in birds nests then birds should not be allowed to make a nest on my cache. I have cache that a bird nests in every year even with people examining the area on a weekly basis. I have a note on the page that you dont have to replace the sticks after searching. Off course the cache is actually on the ground and nowhere near the bird nest' but people still look there first. When there are eggs or chicks then I say on the cache page not to disturb which tells people exactly where it really is.
  23. I'm curious as to why you would want to do this? If no-one can read it, whats the point or do we have to carry around an infa red light to find the co-ords to the next stage?
