  1. I was recruited in church!

    Honestly!

My bro-in-law had recived a Magellan Trak Map for Christmas in 2003. A few months later we were sitting in the pew in front of them during morning services and he dropped a note over my shoulder wanting to know if I wanted to go Geacaching after lunch.

I scratched a "Uh? OK?" on it and handed it back. (I didn't have anything better to do)

Over lunch he told me about finding the site and how it worked and that they'd went on a few hunts the day before and had a great time.

So for awhile, I just tagged along for a few of his hunts.

    The rest is history!! :P

    D-man :P

Must have been a boring sermon :D

  2. I was recently recruited by my own efforts, browsing a webpage. Becuase I have an intesne interest in commercial aviation, I tend to gravitate towads thoise types of websites and such. On one occassion, I happened to trip across a cache page whilst looking for a famous airport spot near LAX, and I've been hooked since.

that is an interesting way to find a site but even weirder is that you looked into it glad you like geocaching

  3. Here is a topic that I have wanted to address...

When a cache is listed, it is becoming an all time problem with the Additional hints reading something like "Too easy for a hint" or "No hints today" or "Email me for a hint if needed" or somthing like that.

Why can't we just leave the additional hints section blank if we think that the cache doesn't need any hints? I have been to caches many times where I can't find it so I waste my time decripting the hints only to uncover something bogus.

After all the section is called "addtional HINTS"

    What do YOU think?

I agree with you I think it is !#24$&^* but that may just be me

  4. hello this is my 200th post I know this is dwarfed by others but this is quite an

    achievement for me :ph34r::P:P

I just wanted to ask what % of people have ever gotten as high as you are now

you can do this by clicking on my assistant then click on top ten overall posters

find how many posts you have find that number then do a little math here is the

formula 66,349 divided by what over all poster you are.

I am the 800th top poster so 17.07% of people ever post as much as I

    have. :D :D

  5. It could be a couple of things. A year ago, I'd say under a pile of sticks (or rocks). It's so common that there's an acronym for it (a couple of acronyms, actually). Lately, it would probably be the dreaded lamp post cache.

watch out people get touchy if you simply mention micros and if you talk about where they mostly get hidden people will argue till somebody comes in and closes the forums

  6. How does one go about enforcing the NO SPOILER rule that the cache owner is requesting???

About all you can do is encrypt their logs, delete them or ask the person who logged it to edit their logs to remove spoilers. Happy geocaching!

yes you dhould do this this delete the log then e-mail the cacher and tell them to redo it with out the spoilers

  7. Hoo yeah - let's all wear our Name, Address, SSN and Phone number right out where anyone can read 'em!

Identity theft is rampant - never display your SSN!

Our soldiers and sailors are being hit especially hard because their SSN is on dog tags and personal items where anyone can get it.

The tags are a good idea IF you put some sort of sleeve or cover over them.

As they are anyone that gets a look at them can hijack your financial life.

    Ed

I agree don't let people see it un less your out in the woods somewhere unconcious but at that point I don't think you could stop them

  8. If anything, the distance should be increased.

(That is both my personal opinion and my reviewer opinion, in case you were curious.

I agree but the Approvers should be allowed to make exceptionsif you ask them and you have a good cache that can't be placed anywhere else.

  9. Starting 3rd year as Commitee Chair for our Troop. Previously 4 years as Scoutmaster, 4 years as Asst Scoutmaster, 6 years in various Cub leader positions. Both sons made Eagle Scout (with 4 Palms), one son Vigil OA.

  11.

    see www.scoutorienteering.com

    Very interesting.

I was a scout for a couple years.

My son is now in his second year of cub scouts(3rd graders).

Cub scouts was kind of disappointing for him last year and this year is not off to a great start.

They get told things they are going to be able to do at the start of the year, but then the leaders never do them.

This year we were told it was going to be different.

They asked the kids what they wanted to do this year as there are a number of things they have to do in the book, but they could pick things from a list.

To make a long story short things are not much different this year then from last year. Other then there are a lot less kids coming to the meetings.

At the next meeting I'm hoping to bring up geocaching to the leaders.

My son thinks it would be fun to take the pack geocaching so will see what the leaders think.

    Wish me luck,

This tends to happen in cub scouts alot boy scouts is much different.
