  1. Well, Your poll doesn't work for me.. It should have had a box "My Riding is Up Becase I cache more on my Bike!" Bought a new bike at the end of Feb and have 11,000 miles on it now! It only had 4,200 when I got it! The plates read "GEODASH" that's what I do, Dash out when ever I can! quote:Originally posted by sbukosky: My miles are WAY down since I began geocaching this last winter. How about you? 2. I have been babysitting several original caches and have replanted a few of them. I have sent responces out to the original owners with no return mail.. I replanted them when I knew they were gone, but usually after asking for a month or so! ANYTIME I have emailed the ADMIN folks here at Geocaching.com I have got a quick and speady responce to adopting one of these caches.. Just recently one of the caches was plungered for the THIRD time. So I filled out the "Cache Should be Archived" and whala Admin Archived it. You have to give folks a chance to respond when asking that you take over maintaining a cache.. I could be that they travel sometimes a month at a time.. I feel the ADMIN's are doing a great job here and they should be commended for the efferts they put in to making this sport work! Besides keeping a cache maintained is important and is a needed chore.. So next time you think a cache is needing to be adopted PLEASE try to contact the owner several times before trying to adopt a cache.. To the Admins here..... You are doing a great job, our job should be to watch out for the caches in our areas and IF we think it's abandoned contact the cache owers first, Then contacting you is what to do next.. THANKS! Like the previous incedent, all a person needs to do is email the web site and let us know of the situation and we can try and fix it. Going into a fit without contacting us about it really doesn't accomplish anything. We do keep history of caches and their previous owners, and it isn't very difficult to switch it back. 4. Congrats to uneakone for saving the day! see Binary Blues - Wind "N" Waves (California) log entry dated July 7, 2002! uneakone & Happy1 ------------------------------------------- Log from July 7 by uneakone 7/7/02 7:03 pm - Well, we went to this one on a 27 cache weekend (2 days). We were running out of time, but since it appeared to be that this one was a simple one, we decided to check it out. Happy1 was the first to reach the site from above. All of a sudden she called, I found the cache. Sewthere went over to check it out, wondering how happy1 had found it so quickly, but she couldn't see it. It's in that guys bag happy1 said. Sure enough while combing the beach for cans, a couple had found it and were going to take it with them. Sewthere had just be questioning me on my spanish speaking skills and you know, it's amazing that I ended up needed them just a few moments later since the couple did not speak english. I wasn't able to make the couple understand about what geocaching was so when they asked if the container was mine, I said Sure. Needless to say, we now have possession of the cache. Would the cache owner please email me his/her address & I will send it back to you. Took cache and happy face ball, left happy face pin & glow-in-the-dark peace sign. Uneakone & happy1 ------------------------------------- I just want to Thank You for going after the cache! A thousand attaboys are due! -+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ "Just a Short walk" Says.... If You plant a cache they will come.....

  6. I have found a mark that was listed as destroyed! If you didn't find a cache you would just mark it as not found! Others my find it... Just a short walk Monterey, CA quote:Originally posted by LindaLu: Shouldn't destroyed benchmarks be archived on this site? I noticed that the option for logging "this cache should be archived" is not available on benchmark pages. I guess I don't understand why a benchmark still has a page (either here or on the official pages) if it was destroyed in 1958, which a number of the ones around here were. Can we clean up the gc.com pages at least by getting rid of the marks that are not there any more? Just wondering. LindaLu -+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ "Just a Short walk" Says.... 7. I have several bugs and keep all of the copy tags on a chain with the name written on each.. I get several people that have asked for the number and this makes it handy! I also have two known missing bugs and have plans on using the copy tags to put a new bug into play again! -+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ "Just a Short walk" Says.... 12. I'd like to see them listed in a wide area, Your area tends to be within 100 miles.. I go farther than that while travling around, So it is nice to see them all listed so that you can pick one to go to.. for example my kids live 250 miles from me, If I knew of a event cache near them I would plan a vist then and grab the kids too... Thanks for letting me vent again! Don quote:Originally posted by Jeremy Irish: I think it is time to update the My Cache Page. My thought is to make it a location specific "what's what" in your area. Event caches, local forums and associations, latest logs, etc. It'll take a bit of work but something I think is important enough to be at the top of the list. On the front page we'd just have a snapshot of the next week. And perhaps a link to all the events as well. I'll have 100 finds soon.... quote:Originally posted by web-ling: Just curious about how long it has taken people to reach their 100th cache. Just got mine over the weekend. 14. I'm not a trucker but travel often.. My I-5 caches are close so that it won't take that long to log them, Just long enough stop to reast grab a cache and get on the road again... all are in safe spots to visit! Beware I usually make them VERY small so that the cleaning crews won't find them.. Infact I am thinking of the cleaning crews as I plant them! quote:Originally posted by Vagabond: Microsoft streets and trips has what your looking for plus what you'll find at off ramps. its cheep at costco There is a trucker that has put out some I hate I5 caches in Oregon and Ca. so you might want to check them out also. 16. I decided that I was not going to follow the numbers.. Too many have been gone and they get picked up by the cleaninig crews unless you leave them really hidden... Each was named "I Hate I-5 - xxxxxxx" with the xxxxxxx being a name I picked when I placed the cache.. The same with the 101 caches "Binary Blues - xxxxxx" quote:Originally posted by kablooey: I think Just A Short Walk posted a half dozen or more I Hate I-5 caches on his trip northward. 17. You are correct! Once you have a bunch of caches placed you tend to spend the time maintaining your caches and not go out as often finding caches.. You also tend to group your caches geographicly so that you can plan a route to maintain caches.. I am pretty avid about checking up on the caches that I have planted and also those caches others have planted near by. I also have a couple of buddies that help me check on caches when they are in the area of my caches.. And I also check on their caches while I am out. Geocaching can be a Team Sport, and sometimes it's safer and lot more fun too.. quote:Originally posted by King Pellinore: quote:Originally posted by mwmm15T: A close second would have to be orbit--his caches aren't quite the quality of kingboreas's, but he does respond immediately to any broken containers, missing caches, etc. [P]This then I guess is my biggest concern. How can you do proper maintainence when you've placed, say over 20 caches? I've only got 8 actuals out there and I'm already finding it difficult to keep checking on them, even if I only wait for reports of inadequacies. I've got plans for a few more but.. Got to leave time to find some once in a while, too. King Pellinore -+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ "Just a Short walk" Says.... If You plant a cache they will come.....
  18. Yes I spend about 10 - 15 dollars on each cache unless it is a coin swap. I try to find enteresting places to place the cache, Some hard, some easy! I have a very bad back and have to get out to exersise.. most of my caches are a result of the exersise that my doctor says I need. I think I am the first and only person to place over 100 geocaches in the world.. I look around for areas with few caches and try to bring geocaching to that area. At the present time I have 37 caches made up sitting in ammo cans on my porch! You will get to find them soon.. I have also given some couple fellow cachers permission to stop by and grab a cache to plant when they are broke.. This allows me to go find new caches also. Terra•Indaga your comments are well taken and I thank you for the kind words! Comments like this is what keeps me planting caches! Thanks for all the great comments I hear when you do find my geocaches..
