If you choose, you can go here http://www.ngs.noaa.gov/cgi-bin/datasheet.prl and download the archived data sheets by state, then county, and do a search by PID for the descriptions you want. The file, if downloaded in unzipped format will be a .dat file that can be viewed with word or wordpad.
BTW, just played with BMGPX and what it does is convert the .dat file to a .gpx file that can be used or opened in expertgps, easygps, etc... This is used instead of downloading waypoints in the .loc format from geocahing.com site One thing you need to do is (when typing in a dos or command box) list the complete path to the .dat file to get it opened, or you can just copy the .dat file to your unzipped BMGPX folder.
