  2. quote:Yes, we also have a cache in NJ that is in an Audubon preserve, placed with their cooperation (they even contributed trade items for it). This one? What an awful place. It looks like an industrial dump that Plainsboro wanted to get rid of. Counted three dead geese near the trash peninsula the one and only time we were there. The NJ Audubon Society certainly got the nasty end of that deal. ____________________________ - Team Og Rof A Klaw All who wander are not lost.

  4. No shredding, but edibles are a bad idea. Critters like to crit 'em. On BrianSnat's list, the knife is discouraged for good reason, as we found out. My wife cut herself on a boxcutter that someone had left in a cache a couple of weeks ago. ____________________________ - Team Og Rof A Klaw All who wander are not lost.

  10. quote:What's the harm in leaving something decent for others to find, rather than something that would be best off put out with the garbage?I'd call this stage in the dialogue "loud agreement." For the record, we don't leave trash, and we bodaciously don't take good stuff and then leave trash. ____________________________ - Team Og Rof A Klaw All who wander are not lost.
  11. quote:Because some people like it.Cognitive disconnect... Is the idea that you keep the stuff and put new stuff in, or that you move it around from cache to cache? The first way results in accumulating stuff. Not a goal of ours. The second way, the trinkets act as game pieces. I agree that it's more satisfying to play with a good Parcheesi set than a ratty one. But you could use valueless tokens -- for example, shiny metal dog tags with serial numbers -- to get much the same effect as you'd have by putting the sterling flatware in.. ____________________________ - Team Og Rof A Klaw All who wander are not lost.
  12. quote:[santa] So, if you're not thinking of yourself when placing a cache item, think of the disappointed kid who is going to open a cache and find your nasty broken piece of junk. [/santa] This little fella is going to be disappointed if he opens the cache and all he finds is Leatherman tools and current DVDs. ____________________________ - Team Og Rof A Klaw All who wander are not lost.

  15. Just ordered some Dr. Martens from Zappos, based on hearing some good stuff about 'em earlier. At least they have a 60-day return policy. Thanks, all! ____________________________ - Team Og Rof A Klaw All who wander are not lost.
  16. For that matter, why leave valuable stuff? It's all game pieces, anyway, not prizes. ____________________________ - Team Og Rof A Klaw All who wander are not lost.
  17. quote:Squaring Pi is just not mathematically possible. Whether challenged or not. The reason it can't be squared is that we haven't found out how large the number really is.Er, I wouldn't make claims of that sort without being able to back them up. It wasn't known until just a few years ago that the digits of pi in radix sixteen were independent of each other. BTW, I'd like to know if there are any slick techniques for setting up an offset, so that: You can put each stage where you want to. (A fill-in-the-blanks algorithm is easy, but you then have to select hiding spots such that some subset of the coords is zero.) You can use whatever's on the first stage (historical dates, etc.) to lead to the second. (I.e., you don't get to plant a micro, write on the wall, etc.) (Hardest) The algorithm to locate the second cache from the first is easier than addition and subtraction. (E.g., fill in the blanks.) Any advice from the Einsteins, Gausses, etc. here appreciated! ____________________________ - Team Og Rof A Klaw All who wander are not lost.
  18. Found a deer tick on me Monday. FULL. WAAAAAAY too close to where Clearpath was talking about! Wore long pants throughout, but no DEET. I'll fix that situation next time I go out. ____________________________ - Team Og Rof A Klaw All who wander are not lost.
  19. Does anyone know where to get a good pair of hiking boots with a sewn-on sole and with no steenkin Gore-Tex? Glued-together boots always delaminate at the sole, and Gore-Tex does exactly what Sno-Seal does, only hotter. ____________________________ - Team Og Rof A Klaw All who wander are not lost.

  23. Sorry, "Kim" is too eurocentric. So is anything spelled out in the Roman alphabet. For that matter, "geo" is a Greek root and "caching" is French. So the hobby is also too Eurocentric. <CentralScrutinizer> This... so... called... geocaching... hobby... violates... Federal... law... you're... all... under... arrest... </CentralScrutinizer> ____________________________ - Team Og Rof A Klaw All who wander are not lost.
