  2. Looks like you ran into the good 'ol "server didn't respond, is it posted or ain't it?" problem as well... IAC, congrats on your #100, Benjamin! ____________________________ - Team Og Rof A Klaw All who wander are not lost.
  3. We heard about it from Curt and Jenny Borchardt of the Trail's End Inn of Keene Valley, NY. The following week, I'd bought a new GPSMAP 76S and Mrs. Og had taken over my plain yellow Etrex. We went out on "Turkey on Rye," DNFed it, then hit "In A Trunk On The River" the following day and got it. From there on, things have just continued. High recos for the Trail's End, BTW. The B&B is great and Curt is a very interesting guy -- ex P3 Orion pilot and former XO of an aircraft carrier (forget which one.) Gave us some hair-curling stories about his duties during the fall of Vietnam. ____________________________ - Team Og Rof A Klaw All who wander are not lost.
  4. Lemme see if I can get something posted this way. Ubbx seems to be having a Microsoft moment. Kber and I are planning to go out on Melvin's Oct. 25. Anyone else interested? If so, please send me PM. Marty, Brian, if you want to watch, I'll provide a four of Sam Smith's Nut Brown Ale and some Fuente 8-5-8s -- as long as you provide us with your cell number and promise to answer if it rings! ____________________________ - Team Og Rof A Klaw All who wander are not lost.
  5. Symptom: The posting first gets rejected with a "page not available" error. Next, I get a "duplicate posting" error. Gotta adore that excellent MICROSOFT.NET stuff... ____________________________ - Team Og Rof A Klaw All who wander are not lost.
  6. Hi, all, Kber and I are planning to go out on Melvin's Multiple Madness on Oct. 25. Anyone nuts enough to join us? We'll debark from the parking point at 12:30 PM. Please read the cache description and the logs carefully, and come prepared with everything you think you'll need. Comms will be via cellphone. Heavy rain within 2 days prior, or other unforseen problems, reschedules to a later weekend. Please RSVP. Cheers, - Team Og. ____________________________ - Team Og Rof A Klaw All who wander are not lost.
  7. Yup. You could place a micro and call it The Alger Hiss Hide. ____________________________ - Team Og Rof A Klaw All who wander are not lost.

  9. Just forward the request to nobody@Groundspeak.com. The approvers are under orders to file all requests for new virts in the memory hole. ____________________________ - Team Og Rof A Klaw All who wander are not lost.
  10. ...what would you change? ...what would you leave the same? ...anyone interested & have the dough? ____________________________ - Team Og Rof A Klaw All who wander are not lost.

  14. Not among the first 100 caches, according to this page. BTW, Equatorial Divine is the 38th oldest cache of any type. ____________________________ - Team Og Rof A Klaw All who wander are not lost.
  15. Believe it or not, I found the story. Go to Google Groups and search for "first virtual cache." The cache is Equatorial Divine, by Hans-Georg Michna. BTW, "virtual cache" is a hardcore computer-geek pun: it's the part of a processor that buffers fast RAM memory from larger, slower mass-storage devices like the disk and allows the disk to act as an extension of the RAM. Maybe TPTB were having a rare moment of humor. ____________________________ - Team Og Rof A Klaw All who wander are not lost. 16. Once upon a time, TPTB had to have thought that a virtual cache was indeed a virtuous idea, worthy of being called a cache, and deserving of its own icon, pulldown menu item, and database field value. (Otherwise, they would never have existed in the first place.) When did that happen, and who had the original idea for virts? ____________________________ - Team Og Rof A Klaw All who wander are not lost.
  17. Amazon lets readers rate their books. So why couldn't Groundspeak let cachers rate the caches? I don't think caches should be killed for lousy ratings, though. ____________________________ - Team Og Rof A Klaw All who wander are not lost.
  18. ...and I WANT THE GOVERNMENT TO DO SOMETHING!!!!! ____________________________ - Team Og Rof A Klaw All who wander are not lost.
  19. quote:A virtual should be something that makes you say "wow!". Not something that makes you say "yeah, so what".The "wow" is in the mind of the beholder. I don't expect that everybody would care about the Santa Fe Trail, but obviously enough people did to plant the marker. It'd be better with a ratings system, but that applies to traditional caches. I've only done one virt, but I liked it better than at least several soggy trashbag traditionals I've done. ____________________________ - Team Og Rof A Klaw All who wander are not lost.
  20. OK, what's actually been dead-clammed so far? ____________________________ - Team Og Rof A Klaw All who wander are not lost.
  21. Well, the guidelines aren't just tight now, they're hermetically sealed. ____________________________ - Team Og Rof A Klaw All who wander are not lost.
  22. Avoid wearing salmon aftershave in bear country. Exercise caution caching anywhere where guys in camo are driving Humvees and making loud noises. Keep in mind that the thing with fins and a fuze is probably not the cache. ____________________________ - Team Og Rof A Klaw All who wander are not lost.
  23. Usage determine's correctnes's. As Dave Barry noted, an apostrophe i's to warn you that there i's an "s" coming up at the end of the word. ____________________________ - Team Og Rof A Klaw All who wander are not lost.
  24. I think the G12 is legacy. ____________________________ - Team Og Rof A Klaw All who wander are not lost.
  25. Now there's a concept! Jinxed travel bugs! If it stays in a cache for more than X days, the cache is CURSED! Just in time for Hallowe'en, folx... ____________________________ - Team Og Rof A Klaw All who wander are not lost.
