  1. I've had no problem in the past few weeks getting caches along a route to work. but today I'm trying to upload my Google Earth kml file: I browse and find it, and click upload, and only get back "** Routes have not been saved" at the bottom of the window. My previously uploaded route is there, but I can't get this one to upload. It's only 45 miles long, so I don't know what the problem is! Any ideas?
  2. Okay! I contacted the cache owner and got his blessing, so I'm logging it. Thanks for everyone's input!
  3. In February of 2005, I was ftf on a cache that was listed on a different listing service. Since that service hardly gets any hits, I was pretty much the only finder, and a month later the owner converted it to a gc.com cache. The gc.com ftf was confused, as I had already signed the log, so I posted a note saying I had previously found it but wouldn't log it on gc.com. Now I'm approaching my 1000th find and it's bugging me, I want my numbers to be accurate. Did I find this one or not? It's deep in a trail with plenty of ticks and poison oak and brambles, so I'm not too eager to go find it again just to rewrite my name on the very same logsheet. Okay, almighty geocaching community, is this a smiley or not?
  4. I admit it, I'm getting forgetful. Sometimes when I log a find on a cache into which I've dropped a tb, I forget to click on it to actually log the drop. Then I have to post a note on the cache to drop off the tb. What I would like to see is that same pull-down list of tb's in my possession come up if I edit my cache log, then I could drop it by a log edit instead of a whole new log. Does that make sense? It's a pretty petty little thing, considering how well the website is designed in general, but it would be nice!
  5. Thanks! I got my sister to grab my webcam pic today, but it's great to have this useful webtool on hand!
  6. This webcam helper seems to be defunct. It there any other way to log a webcam if I don't have somebody to capture the image?
  7. I'll be in Atlanta for the national robotics competition (go Space Cookies!), staying at the Hyatt at the Peachtree Mall. My main free day will be Thursday (I'm arriving on the red-eye in the morning). What are some good caches that i can get to by public transportation? I'll have some TB's, so I'd like to find at least one non-micro. I've never been to Atlanta, so I'm excited! Also, I hear that the neighborhood around my hotel is bad. How bad is it? Thanks for any help!
  8. Thanks for everyone's help! I ended up doing a bunch of Disney virtuals, all the caches in Celebration, FL, an airport TB hotel, a few others near Disney, one in Yee Haw Junction on the way to Palm Beach which was fun, and a couple in Palm Beach. Lots of fun caching!
  9. This thread is getting unwieldy! I seem to remember this topic being discussed but now I can't find it, so sorry if this is a repeat! I've had my 60cx for a few weeks now, no problems. Until yesterday! The batteries died so I replaced them (with Kirkland alkalines - the ones from Costco). When I turned the unit back on, after about 10 minutes the screen faded out and then turned off. This happened 3 more times. Then I turned it off for the night, haven't turned it on since. I checked, I have it set to alkaline batteries, and that's what I'm using. Maybe it's a bad batch of batteries? Or is it a problem with the unit? If it keeps happening I'll try another brand, but I was wondering if anyone has any insight...
  10. I'm having the same issue with my 60cx. It's not an autorouting issue, it's just locating an address (or intersection). Right now I have my area of California loaded in, along with a chunk of Florida. If I try to find an address in Florida, while the unit thinks it's in California, it will not find that address. I have to manually move the location to Florida before it will. I have Metroguide, I wonder if CN has this problem also.
  11. I'm going to Disney World in Florida on Sunday for a few days. One of the days I'll be driving to Palm Beach. I won't have much time for caching, so I'd like to know which ones are worth my time! Anyone have any insights? Thanks!
  12. Okay, maybe I'm dumb, but I need a step-by-step tutorial showing me how to use gsak to create this poi file, how to get it into the microSD card on my 60cx, and how to get those waypoints onto the maps. I can't figure it out from reading through the thread. This seems like it would be awesome!
  13. I don't know how fast the old 60cs was, but my new 60cx redraws maps WAY faster than my old Legend. And the satellite acquisition is so much better! I was in Yosemite this weekend, and while I didn't have a chance to go after any caches (I was with a big group), I had a lock on satellites all the time - in a bus between the big rock walls, inside various buildings, etc. The only time I lost the lock was in the middle of a rock tunnel that's probably a tenth of a mile long. One thing I'm wondering about, though. I had both topo and metroguide maps loaded into my 60cx. With that much memory (the 64M card that came with it), I was able to load most of northern CA from both topo and metroguide, which were dozens of separate map segments. When I wanted to turn off the metroguide, I had to scroll through all those map segments to get the to the one I wanted to uncheck it. Is there a faster way to switch between maps that anyone knows about?
  14. Maybe I'll try EasyGPS later. For now, I've got gsak exporting to Mapsource, and loading the waypoints on that way. So, I'm ready to cache! Thanks for everyone's help!
  15. I just got my 60cx today, and it seems pretty nifty except for a few rough spots. The biggest problem right now is that gsak doesn't work with it yet (see my other topic in this forum). But I had one other glitch, after I loaded my Metroguide and Topo maps into it, I went to the map page, and it showed "drawing" on the screen, and just hung like that. After about 5 minutes I turmed it off and on, and then the map displayed correctly. I went out to find a cache with it at a nearby shopping center. Lots of tall buildings, canyons, etc. It acquires satellites within 10 seconds or so, and does a great job holding the lock. When I walked all the way through Macy's, it lost reception after about 30 seconds, right in the middle of the building, but as soon as I walked out the door it had the lock again, even though there is a canopy there. Holds the lock in my house and in my pocket, but when I'm in my house it my location jumps around by as much as a couple of hundred feet. The accuracy, when I compare it to my Legend, seems about the same, as long as the legend has a lock. All in all, I'm very happy - just looking forward to being able to use it with gsak!
  16. I just downloaded easygps and it has a dialog box for what kind of gps I have. And the new Garmins are not on the list. According the the gsak forums (Thanks benjamin for providing the link) it looks like Garmin is using a new waypoint protocol. For now the workaround is to open the gpx file in mapsource and then download it to the 60cx. I'm still trying to figure out how to do that!
  17. Help! I just got my new Garmin 60Cx about an hour ago. I had no trouble loading the drivers and firing up Mapsource (I already had Metroguide and Topo), and I transfered a pile of maps into it. But when I started gsak and tried loading a file of waypoints into it, it hangs up on "Sending Waypoints..." The little blue dots keep marching across, the text reads Label1, and the percentage stays at 0%. I tried updating gsak to the latest version, that didn't help. I have the usb box checked on the setup page. If I uncheck that, it gives me an error, which it should because this is using usb. Then, I have to CNTL-ALT-DEL it to shut down gsak, and when I open it again it's screwed up, doesn't any waypoints at all. I had to restore it to an earlier versiont o get the waypoints back. I think the problem might be gsak, that somehow it doesn't know how to deal with this new gps. Any help for me? I hand-entered one waypoint and went and found a cache, so the gps is working great - but I want all the waypoints in it! WAAAHHH!
  18. I've always thought those hiking staffs were the coolest things around... I'll be checking everyone's avatars more carefully now!
  19. I currently have a Legend, and I have both the Metroguide and Topo software. Will I be able to use these with a 60cx, which I've just placed an order for? My understanding is that I can use the metroguide, but I won't have the turn-by-turn capability with that, and that's okay by me. Just want to check that at least I'll have all those streets in the map! Thanks!
  20. That's amazing; it's already gone! I must have looked at it during the few minutes the icon was still there but the cache wasn't! Thanks for the quick responses!
  21. I recently did some caches in New York City, and i wanted to check out other caches there. If you look at the gc.com maps, there is an icon for a virtual right on Liberty Island, where the Statue of Liberty is. But there doesn't seem to be a way to identify it, the icon keeps showing up even on the identify screen. What is with that?
  22. Email sent - thanks for the generous offer! Merry Christmas, Happy Chanukuh, and Joyous Kwanzaa to all!
  23. Those are some awesome pictures. A real window into a totally different world than the one I'm in. I'm glad youre placing some caches in those places, one day if I'm lucky I'll get a chance to hunt them!
  24. I'd like to see another criteria available for pocket queries: Return caches that I have logged. This would include any type of log - dnf's, notes, etc. That way, if I chose caches that I have logged AND I haven't found AND are active, I would get pretty much a list of all the caches I've dnf'ed and still haven't found. If this has already been requested, my apologies - I did a search but never know if I've put in the right search terms! Kudos to Jeremy and company for making this site so incredibly easy to use and flexible!
