  1. Ok Folks, as of tonight, I have 6 hides and 3 finds. The only 9 in Northern Japan. I have an idea for a cache, but wanted to run it by a few of the old time cachers to get some input. If it sounds like the idea would work, feel free to copy it. I have access to an old "dormitory style" refrigerator that no longer works. The idea is to load it up with some of those plastic foods and spray paint it with instructions on the top. Due to safety and keeping youngsters from getting trapped inside, I would need to put a combination lock on it and post the combination on the cache page. There are several suitable locations I could put this cache that no one would be able to stumble on to it by mistake. Before I went to all the trouble of procurring all of the plastic food items and setting off on this one, I figured I would bounce it off of some of the more dedicated folks. Many thanks.
  2. quote:Ahhhh.... I just discovered that the address I found is a private mailbox, not a real honest-to-goodness physical address. quote: You silly rabbit--that mailbox is really a mailbox in disguise. Hey wait a minute. That's a brilliant idea for a cache.
  3. I'm telling you guys--you keep on posting hilarious material like this, I'm gonna start wearing those Depends. You know those grownups diapers. I about peed myself again from laughing so hard.
  4. I,ve had the Rosie Palm for years now and have been very pleased with it.
  5. A funny thing happen on the way to the cache--- There are two pieces of gear I could never make recommendations on--boots and backpacks. I have found over the years that these two critical pieces of equipment are far to important and unique to the individual to make recommendations. When I purchased my last pair of "mid duty" hikeing boots, I must have tried on 30 or 40 pair before I settled on my Vasque Sundowners. WHile in the store I HAD to strap them on and get on "the Ramp", an elevated board to simulate up hill, downhill and side stepping. I also had to ensure that I wore some high quality synthetic backpacking socks when I tried them on. Socks are also critical to boot comfort and fit. Wrong socks=hotspots and discomfort. I have logged many, many miles, in many, many conditions in my trusty vasque's ans like to think I am still breaking mine in. It seems like evertime I strap them on, them feel a little bit better. Now here's a little wisdom, if I know I am traveling long distances off improved surfaces or the potential exists for pretty rough terrain I strap on the ole hiking boots. If it look like pretty simple terrain, I typically go with my trail runners. Another aspect of boot comfort lies in the inserts. Vasque is well known in the hiking community for having inferior inserts. I immediately trashed the stock inserts and replaced them with a high quality insert with a little arch support. Hope this helps a little. These boots are made for caching.......

  10. WOW--I am speechless after reading this thread. Joe frog, I say you bottle some of that stuff you've been drinking--you could make a fortune--I about peed myself laughing about the monkeys. I'm Just delighted that ventura_kids didn't include gerbils on the list of cached animals--you never know where those dudes have been.
  11. After reviewing multiple threads in this forum, I seem to keep running across the same magic number of 100 finds. Am I missing something here? Is there something magical about the 100th find? Northern Japan presently has 8 caches and I have hidden 5 of them. Is there a magic number for number of hides as well? Just a new guy trying to learn the basics and lingo. I CACHE; THEREFORE, I AM
  12. Runner, Whatever you do dude, DO NOT BURN THE DRIVE IN DOWN.

  14. Is this the same place as posted in this article? http://the.honoluluadvertiser.com/article/2002/Oct/10/ln/ln01a.html I may be new to this geocaching thing, but from what I see in this photo, it is crystal clear that violators of the trespass sign will be procecuted. I recently joined the ranks of geocachers, but have been an avid hiker for some time now. Somewhere along the line I thought I heard words to the effect that other folks were doing it. Hmmmmm--let me see which side of the brain that one comes from. As a responsible hiker, I would be a dadgum fool to cross this apprantly well secured area. As a geocacher, I have a responsibility to the rest of the geocaching community to ensure I live up to the self imposed community standards of this community. This must come from within--If I choose to violate something as simple as tresspassing, what's next, posteing a cache for Hop Sings Noodle Shop or better yet, leaving inappropriate materials in my caches just because I read in this forum that other folks had done so? Bottomline--When I make a choice to log onto this website and fire up my GPS, I assume certain responsibilities.
  15. Look, in the sky, it's a bird, it's a plane--no, it's Trojan Man. On the hunt for trojans hidden in geocaches all around the world. Stay tuned next week for the premeire of McToy Man......

  20. Criminal, I'm in Japan and would love to here about this.
  21. I will certainly be on the look out here in Japan. Let's see here now. If it flows into the Mighty Mississipi then into the Gulf of Mexico, it could float around there for a while. Now for it to reach me out here, it would (1) either have to sneek it's way through the Panama Canal or (2) float around the Atlantic Ocean for a while and come around the cape of Africa. Then it would need to take a northern track up the Pacific Ocean and land on the shore of Japan. Consider this a "Message it the bottle" cache. Maybe years from now some geocacher will be in some off the wall corner of the world and find you "Message in the bottle" and post it on the page.
  22. Funny I should run across this thread today. Today is the 21st of June, the Summer Solstice. In many long distance hiking communities, today has been known as naked hiking day. Maybe these were left as part of this annual ritual marking the begining of summer. LOL
  23. My name is Wanderingson and I am a Geocacher. I can see me years from now in a smokey room working a 12-step program and telling all of the newcomers about my addiction. It all started when I found my first cahe--from that moment on, I knew I was hooked.....
