One that sticks in my memory is SesquiTrivia in Columbia, SC. This cache took quite a bit of time and effort to set up. Basically, it has cards with questions on them for the stages throughout the park. Each question has three possible answers, with each answer having a set of coordinates. Very enjoyable cahche that really tests your knowledge of Geocaching and the GPS. My favorite local cache is called Turtle Trek 3. As the cache hider will tell you, it's less than a mile from the car to the cache. It's just the hardest mile you'll ever walk. Very well laid out cache which really gets the blood moving. Another local cache: Making the Connection, requires one to use a phone and call for clues. The owner had to set up roughly 20 voice mail-boxes for the cache. It's really neat, and accessible to those who can't do the hikes up the side of our local mountains. To top off this cache , the final is near the business he owns, so he can watch you looking for the cache...

How do you figure? My plain-jane Merigreen gives me that kind of accuracy except in the worst conditions. I set a waypoint to the exact spot in the driveway that I always park. Every time I come home, it says that I am no more than 10ft. from that waypoint, and more often than not, less than 6 feet. That's 3 meters or better... But that's a little off the topic. Has anyone been able to get to the pertinent pages yet? I still get the error page anywhere but 'home' page.

I have had the same problem with my MeriGreen several times. Once, the thing started giving me the strangest readings.... Try using larger batteries, too. The 2300 maH rechargeables I now use are big enough that I never have that problem anymore.

I've been trying since last night, and all I get is the HTTP 500 Internal server error page. Matter of fact, I've gotten that same error twice on their home page. I once got to the login page and then nothing. Someone needs to update their servers before putting on a promotion like this!

I use a Nite Ize stand up holster for my eTrex camo. A local Wal-mart has them on clearance for $7.00 I've got most of a 1000 foot roll of '550' cord (parachute cord?), left over from my stint in the Army. I used it to make a lanyard long enough to either secure the GPSr to the holster or hang it around my neck. Either way, it can't fall and get hurt. The Merigreen rides in the Magellan pouch. I've got to get some kind of lanyard setup for it though. Both receivers are secured to the straps on the side of my lumbar pack.

Why do I like Urban Micros? Two words: NO TICKS! Also, they provide a quick caching fix when I just don't have the time to go trekking through the woods. We discussed this at a CITO event Saturday, and someone brought up the fact that many people aren't physically able to get to where most 'traditional' caches are hidden. Since I rarely trade, I don't care what the container size is. It's the hunt that counts.

How about in a cache close to me. McWeb Sory, I don't think I'll be anywhere near Texas any time soon...

Whee! I grabbed my first YJTB today from a Show Me The Cache cache. One thing that I had a little trouble with was logging it, though. The 'zero' in the tracking number looks like a 'O'... Took my knife to it and etched a small line so that the next person won't keep getting the "No such tracking number" error. Now, where to put it?

Disturbing, yes, but possible. I had that discussion with one of my passengers one night after I'd explained my obsession/hobby. The first question she asked was "What about someone booby trapping it?" Of course, most of the time terrorists aren't after somebody walking in the woods. Less shock value, as it were. We have a 12 stage multi calledGeneral Morgan's Dirty Dozen(GCHCC3) in my area which requires roughly 100 miles of driving to complete. It took me 138 miles and more than six hours to do it, but I really enjoyed myself. I'd have to agree with the majority, though, that 100 stages is just a bit ridiculous.

There's a topic on the most (238) in 24 hours here. As for the most in a weekend, I don't know. Perhaps you could search the forums and see if this has been answered already.

Let's see. There's KY, IN, OH, WV, TN, NC, SC, and GA. That makes eight, right? I'm just waiting for CCCooper or Show Me to chime in with their counts. Of course, they're too busy caching to waste time in the forums...

Well, not completely sealed, as one of the byproducts of the reaction is Hydrogen gas, which means that the battery must at least be vented. Whoever came up with the idea of a battery that you can't service needs to be shot. Of course, that's more money for the battery manufacturers. One other reason that lead/acid (Pb H2SO4) batteries can't be frozen is that the acid is diluted with water. When water freezes, it expands, usually cracking the case of the battery.

FWIW, you can also add a Y to the end of the address and have it print the hint decrypted... I usually copy the shortcut and put it in the address bar since I don't want it opening a new window at the same time. I agree, though, that for those who do carry paper copies in the field, this would be a nice option.

10% of my cache finds have been firsts, and I love it. There is a certain thrill about being the first person there. I don't go to any great lengths to be first (honest!) but I will make a little extra time on the way to work to go get one. I think it keeps the game interesting to see who's going to be first to get there, especially on the harder caches. As far as 'letting' others be first, they have just as much opportunity (actually more, as I work 'on the road') as I to get the FTF. I spent quite some time running all over the place trying to be first on several caches when I first started doing this. Now, I take my time and hope for the best.

This will probably be one of the few votes for anything in the Meridian line. I have a Merigreen with 128 and 64 MB SD cards. I'll repeat the earlier comment about other units needing more memory. I have the entire states of OH, WV, KY, IN, NC, SC, most of GA, AL, IL and parts of MI and MO on one card. Driving for a living, I need that. Oh, and that's maps and Topo. Also, my Merigreen picks up signals just about everywhere (including the basement where I'm at right now), whereas my eTrex camo drops out if I hang it upside down. Now if money were no object, I'd trade up to that 60c! Notice that Garmin finally went with controls that can be used without being a contortionist?

Try telling that to the folks who were arrested (or nearly so) while trying to score on the Magellan promo last year because they were on private property! Magellan also put one of their caches on USP/FS land. Yeah, they had some idea how of to do it... I can't wait!

ju66l3r does bring up a valid point, however. How will these bugs be individualized? Only by tracking number? Or will each have a different name? Will the cache page say that "YJTB 133" has been spotted or just YJTB (I still like that better than JTB ). A little foresight when heading out will avoid the confusion, but I can see where a cacher might pick up the same bug more than once. As far as 'what's the point of moving?', well, TB's need to move. I don't foresee one running into dozens of these bugs every day anyway, unless your name is CCCooper or Show Me. If you don't want to move these bugs, then don't pick them up. Problem solved.

I have three OTF's, and they were all hidden by the same person, at roughly the same time. GCHXZ7, GCHWTK, and GCHV7H are all crypto caches. Since the cache page coords can't be correct, the hider picked an arbitrary set of coords. The problem is that the coords he picked are almost 100 miles from the actual caches. Because of this, the caches don't show up in a normal zip code search. There was quite a bit of stir from the locals when the caches first appeared, and I got several requests for assistance. Since then, it appears that everyone has just stopped trying, since the caches aren't staring them in the face every time they do a search... I tried asking the hider to change his cache page coords, but no dice as yet.
