  1. I'll try out both of these suggestions. Thanks!
  2. I have looked and looked (which usually means that the obvious solution was right in front of me ) for a way to view a map of a PQ made for caches along a route. What I mean is like on the "My Account Page" where you can click on the "Map It" icon under the SEARCH OPTIONS on the top of the right side of the page. Is there a way to do that? It would be a really handy thing so you could observe how many caches are in a particular area, and plan your rest stops along the way. Thanks!
  3. <Found my answers> Can't find how to delete this topic.
  4. I got an email from the geocaching website saying that some one sent me a friend request. When I go to my friends page in my account, all I see is an option to cancel the request. How do I accept friend requests?
  5. It's windy and rainy, so it's not a very nice weekend to take the kids out for a cache hunt /sigh... this is GREAT for you guys though. I get to share my wisdom!! Reading through this thread, it seems that the owner of the item has replied, but there were some good points made here. A knife is not a "good" item to place in a cache. It's good to be concerned with other's safety while they are examining objects placed in a cache. This little swiss army knife is not a life threatening weapon, but does pose a hazard if it has a blade out. The knife probably shouldn't be modified, broken, or otherwise permanently disabled. Someone suggested taping the knife shut, but realistically, the tape will probably come off after a short time, and leave a sticky residue where it used to be. Here's my suggestion; Most any hardware, home improvement, electrical, automotive and maybe even a hobby or craft store has heat shrink tubing available in a variety of sizes for not too terribly expensive. Here's a picture of heat-shrink containing a bundle of wires: All you would need is a 1-1.5' length of heat-shrink tubing with a big enough diameter to fit the knife. A lighter or even candle will provide enough heat to make the tubing shrink tightly around the knife, preventing accidental opening of the blade, doing no permanent damage, and tough that a small child couldn't remove it in the time you are signing the log, but removed easily by an adult who ends up keeping the knife. That's my $.02
  6. Thanks for solving the problem! We have a beautiful day, which I finally have off to spend w/ the kids. We couldn't even get coords for the non-premium member caches. In the grand scheme of things is it really necesary to require a log in for those??
  7. This is disappointing...we have a beautiful day, which I finally have off to spend w/ the kids. We can't even get coords for the non-premium member caches! In the grand scheme of things is it really necesary to require a log in for those??
  8. I just started geocaching as well. I do it the way you are gps, compass, and printed sheets (minus the topo map.) I get the kids involved/excited by having them read the numbers to me. I think it increases thier understanding of geography and navigation, and the paper gives us a place to take notes and keep things straight if we do a bunch of caches that day. Have fun, that's what's it all about!
  9. I'm a clueless noob. I looked at this forum and Garmin's site, but didn't find an answer. While looking at the Garmin site, I saw an option on some units that was called "Geocaching Mode" My kids and I have never not found what we are looking for, so is it even worth worrying about? What is it? I got my first gps unit ever a month ago so I could take it in my boat, into some pretty thick woods, and do geocaching. I bought a GPS 72, and it turned out that it really wasn't what I was expecting. I like the idea of having an actual map showing under your route, which is the main thing that bothers me about my 72. I can get a nice deal on a refurbished eTrex Legend locally from Gander, and there is a Rino 120 up for sale here. Would either of those units be good for what I want to use 'em for, or should I really consider "Geocaching Mode" ~or~ is the 72 a really nice gps, and I should just live with it? Thanks!
  10. I'm interested! I sent you an email with my contact info.
