  1. Pythian Castle - GeoPost Office Springfield, MO http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...42-a645733aee7b Took me awhile to get permission granted to place this cache but it finally came today.
  2. Send the guy (the one who's archiving his caches) a private e-mail. Give him some positive feedback, and coach him a little on how to glean the constructive parts out of the critical logs without taking it personally. I have but he is not responding. His posts read "my heart is broken". I feel bad that he is taking this so hard. Cachers remarks about his hides have not been that bad that he needs to be crying over it. I have read the posts and they are just their remarks about his hides and not meant to be taken personally but as a matter of 'same ole same ole'.
  3. Logging your comments about a cache found IS great info for other cachers who plan on hunting that particular cache. Example: remarking that the cache is in the middle of a PI patch, do not take the kiddos on this one OR this was a great hunt, I had a fun time. There are alot of great micros out there but I wouldn't call a micro at the end of a dead end road, in or near a trash site, in or near PI & that takes 4-5 times there, searching 30+ minutes each time without the find, a fun time. Granted new cachers are excited and want to get into the hiding phase of the game but they also need some education on what & how to make their cache hide something fun for other cachers. What fun are they having when 10 cachers have gone out to hunt their hide and can't find it. What fun is the cache hunter having when they develop a bad case of PI. I am very involved with trying to keep the integrity of caches high in Springfield, MO. I do this by educating the Newby with discussions at events & Geocaching 101 events. I am not the one that this guy is upset with but I have done his caches & have wondered what the hell am I doing here searching a smelly area next to a huge dumpster. No one had found this cache since it was up so I had no finders remarks to go by & the dumpster was NOT mentioned in the cache description. This guy could do our community of cachers a great deal by putting is efforts & enthusiasm into something more solid like a traditional size or a more creative micro other than a 1" bison tube hidden at the end of a dead end road with nothing to see but a bushy PI area. Take me somewhere special to you, show me something special like a panoramic view, educate me with the history of the area, make the cache container new & different & hidden with thought. Do that & the cache finder will tell others. There are cachers out there that I can't wait for them to put up another cache for me to hunt but than there are those that I remove from my list. All it takes is a little thought to make a cache fun...think about it first!
  4. Will do. I am seeking permission for a site that I chose for this special cache. As soon as it is placed I will contact you. I have also contacted several other cachers in different cities to see if there is interest in this. You will see this up in the States soon. Great Idea!!
  5. I think this is way-cool. I live in Springfield, MO USA & I am going to get one up down here. I'll send you a card!
  6. I developed Lyme disease 2 summers ago. Very bad disease & once you got it you got it. That summer was really rough because I felt sick all summer & the antibiotic for it makes you very sensitive to the sun. That was one miserable summer.[/color]
  7. I am a womyn & have been caching since July 2001 on my own. Hiking sometimes 8-10 miles to get a cache alone in the wildernes. 20 miles on an overnite hunt once with 2 other females (Myotis 100 - Irish Wilderness). I also cache with my 4-legged companion, Memphis. I carry a big stick....oh & a 9-millimeter loaded with hollow points in my backpack for comfort. NEVER UNDER-ESTIMATE THE POWER OF A WOMYN! 8. Yes, I did the same by contacting the park referring to my res #. Can't wait til the fun begins!! See you there Bloodhoundgrl!
  9. When you make reservations you are not assigned a campsite. You will be assigned a site at the time of your arrival. I spoke with the Matt Shelly at Cedar Hills and he said that they will make every effort to put us all in the same area of the campgrounds but as of right now that area is not specific. See you all there! Jeepers Springfield, MO
  10. Hey, that's me in that there msnbc picture!!!
  11. I will be interviewed tomorrow in reference to this article. I will be taking this reporter to 2 cemetary caches. The first is a multi/micro and the second a traditional. I am hoping that she sees that geocachers are not the vandals described in this article by Ms Overstreet. I myself have 3 caches in or near a cemetary. One was found by a relative of one of the occupants and she thanked me for placing the cache and that she is happy to know that her great great great grandmother has visitors on a regular basis. Another one I was granted permission by the Bonniebrook Historical Society who cares for the cemetary. They were quite happy to have visitors on a regular basis. 12. Geocaching is a GREAT game/sport and it will stay that way as long as the players and administrators try to uphold the integrity of the game. New players coming into the game need to think a little more when hiding a cache. Lately I have found caches that looks as if the hider just threw the container out the window of their car. So far I have found this to be one cacher in particular and what will happen is hardcore cachers like myself will stop looking for caches put out by this fellow. I already do not look for one guys caches because his cache placements were in bad taste and it looks like I will be adding another to my don't bother list. When hiding a cache I try to bring the treasure hunter to a place of interest, throw in a little history and make the hunt entertaining and than have a treasure at the end of the trail not a box of rocks, which I have found. By doing that I give back to the game and give it and my caches integrity. People want to hunt for my caches. There are certain cachers that I watch and wait for them to hide something because they too put integrity back into this game, right off hand I can tell you any cache hidden by the HairyHillBilly is a must find. He will take you to parts of this country that will absolutely take your breath away and that is not because it is a long hard hike but because it is a place of interest, of history and enjoyment . GC SHOULD stand by their guidelines and not let a new cacher put out a cache until 50 finds are reached. That may eliminate the bad, not worth the effort caches but than again maybe it wouldn't. The limit is for the new cacher to increase in experience, if a newcomer finds say 14 caches rated 1/1, there is no experience in the hunt or game for that cacher. If GC wants to hold up the integrity of this game/sport than the integrity of the guidelines need to be upheld, period. I love this game. I want the Ozarks to be a place where fellow geocachers from all over the states will come and hunt our hidden treasures and leave remembering WOW!! that was a great time!! A cache on the side of the road isn't much of a good time . Let's try to keep the integrity in this game we ALL seem to enjoy. Jeepers
  13. Got off topic but it seems to be the new comers to the game that are in the 'feeding frenzy' of TB's and I got off on another thread concerning newcomers. Quoting a well known comic....."Excuuussse Meeee!" Jeepers
  14. Well, Pandybat, as you can read, I couldn't think of a better word for someone who logs a TB grabbed when in fact they did not grab it but just saw it at the event. I have been to several events and have never seen this 'feeding frenzy' practiced before that doesn't mean it hasn't happened I just didn't see it and it really surprised me that it happened at our event. The fact that it did put a damper on my memories of the day. But no harm done, the frenzy is over and I finally have the TB's I grabbed back in my possession even though they never physically left. I also chose not to log pocket caches that I have found or caches found at the event although this is practicable at many events, I just chose not to do that now. Geocaching is a GREAT game/sport and it will stay that way as long as the players try to uphold the integrity of the game. New players coming into the game need to think a little more when hiding a cache. Lately I have found caches that looks as if the hider just threw the container out the window of their car. 15. I too only log what I truely find and grab and I believe this is the way the game is suppose to be played. I guess each player makes the game as good to them as they want it to be. I try to enjoy each hunt to the fullest, finding a cache on the side of a road leaves my cup emptier than when I started. When I say side of the road I am not including those rest area stops on the interstates...those are great because it gives me a reason to pull over and stretch my legs where otherwise I would just keep driving. And I have had some interesting finds and encounters at those rest areas including a snake, a mole and an extremely unhappy mother squirrel that was in attack mode. Guess I am getting a little off topic here, sorry. Jeepers
  16. Well, I think it would delete that bug from their count. I think this is what I will do if any of my bugs come into a 'feeding frenzy'. The TB should only be counted by the actual grabber unless of course it IS one of those that are meant to be logged by all members attending the event. Again JMHO. Jeepers
  17. Lately I have been finding traditional caches on the side of a road, I would give them a <1 rating ...most of the locationless and virtuals I have done have been harder and more interesting than what these new cachers are putting out. GC should stick by their criteria of 50 finds before letting one of the newer players put up a cache on the side of the road with absolutely no interest at all. JMHO Jeepers
  18. You got that right Crazies!!! This is the first time I have seen this "grabbing" done in all the events that I have attended. I didn't know what was going on when I kept losing TB's from my inventory until I started reading the logs on the TB page.

    Winnipeg Bound

Ey Canadian Neighbors, I am coming up over the Holiday weekend to do some caching in and around Winnipeg. Anything going on up there that might be of interest to this American cacher? Jeepers
  20. I think it makes it very confusing to the owner and the actual grabber and not the way the game is played. These cachers are only trying to get numbers up by....well for a lack of a better word...cheating. Jeepers

    Tb Wars?

I want to know why people are logging that they grabbed a TB at an event when they do not have it. I had to go in and repeatedly log that I have a TB because others were logging that they grabbed it just because they SAW it at the event. What is up with that?
  22. I also had an encounter with a rattle snake. It was small, about 8-10 inches but it was a mean little s**t. Memphis, my 4-legged companion tethered to my waist, walked right over it and the only reason I saw it was because the snake struck out at him. By that time I was standing right over it. It then started striking at me. So if you can picture this...I was hopping from one foot to the other with this snake between my feet striking at one foot than the other, all the time I was shouting "son of a b***h...son of a b***h". I finally managed to get my walking stick around to push it out of my way and it struck my stick and sunk it's fangs in so I was able to shake it off a ways from me. I was up close and personal with that guy and when I got home I looked it up and found out it was a swamp rattler. Whatever, he was mean. I also had an encounter with a mad squirrel on another cache hunt but I'll save that story for another time! Jeepers
